Your boat "Little One" is lovely, it's fun to catch glimpses of the interior as well , as you go about your cruises. It's a nice life you have there -thanks for sharing.
Bet you're shocked how successful your vlogs are Betty? It's because you're clearly a lovely, genuine person, like an instant friend. everyone can just relate to you. I'm so pleased for you and wish you every happiness. Tony 😊
@@bettyonaboatI'm really happy for you Betty as you deserve it as your so friendly and make us feel like we already know you. I know I enjoy your videos so much already and really appreciate you sharing your life with us xx
No idea why you turned up in my youtube feed, but I have just watched all your videos in sequence and they are so refreshing. Part of the charm is you just being you - natural and relatable - a rare treat on You tube.
Betty, you don't sound the least bit miserable at all❤. In a couple of your videos, you comment on the noise levels of your engine, and you could get rid of a lot of it by using sound insulation / sound-deadening materials in your engine bay. I think that would make your travels a lot more enjoyable. Ps. I love the videos and binge-watching them at the moment🥳
Hi Betty Nearly 10,000 subscribers in the first month, you're clearly doing something right, as others have said it's probably down to your warm appealing charm, your simple straight forward dialogue and the fact that people can relate to the simplistic lifestyle that you live, If I had the opportunity to live like that I would jump at the chance. good luck with the channel, all the best for the future.
These little "slice of life" videos are lovely. Your pacing and deliberate speech is so refreshing for youtube - a place normally full of smash cuts and people talking at 150mph. 8-10 mins is the perfect cup of tea/coffee time. I'm quite jealous of your boat and the lovely life you seem to have on it Betty.
@@bettyonaboat It's a good quality to have. I often talk myself into a corner by not thinking about what my next word is going to be. Your videos are a nice reminder that taking that extra bit of thinking time is worth it.
Betty, I have watched all of your videos am looking forward to the next. I enjoy the bits of history you interject and of course the lovely scenery you show in your videos. Keep the footage coming. Thanks
Another refreshingly honest and naturaly presented video. Just to ease your mind, your videos are not boring at all, it's such a nice change to see a "normal" person sharing their experiences. Keep em coming 😊
Hi, I had a quick look through the comments to see if anyone else mentioned your hot water but can't see any, so, in case anyone is a little confused... the hot water coming from the tap/shower isn't actually the same water used to cool the engine, it's pumped through a heat exchanger that's mounted to the engine and back to the hot water storage tank. I'm not a boater myself but I do work on a few boats as a mechanic, so I've been to most of the marina's in your area, including Shardlow. Thanks for continuing to post videos.
The same water that cools the engine (and has antifreeze in it) goes through a coil inside the hot water cylinder (calorifier), so the two never mix. This is similar to the hot water cylinders in a domestic house but, because the heat source (the engine) is uncontrolled, it can get very hot. To overcome this, there is a blending valve that mixes hot and cold water to a safe temperature when it is delivered to the taps.
thumbs up to all you subscribers you have restored my faith in the human race . thought i was original when i commented on bettys lovely personality but , having read some comments it appears universal . poor girl cant possibly have expected this number of views /subscriptions and comments - goina need a pa soon to handle all this fanmail . good luck to all especially betty you deserve all the plaudits !
It does seem like a full-time job reading and replying to them all! It's nice to see that people are saying such positive things though as the internet can often be a negative place.
Great video Betty. You are so instantly likeable and great in front of the camera. You should be so proud that you took the leap and uploaded that first video. I think it is safe to say from the comments we are all glad you did. 😀
I’m viewing from Australia. My ancestors go back centuries in UK. I think I must have narrow boats and canal living in my DNA, I would love to live like this. ❤
I think I must have too! I recently found out that my granny's father used to work on boats as a volunteer helping at somewhere that did trips for children.
The RU-vid algorithm brought me to your channel and I’m so happy it did. I lived near the Ripon canal as a teenager. We used to help the boats through the locks. These are lovely, informative videos. Calming too. Keep them coming. I’d love to know how you came to be Betty on a boat.
This is exactly what RU-vid should be! Please consider keeping doing these videos they are fantastic! I love living vicariously through others who have a life on the canals! Maybe one day....
Hi Betty, I absolutely love your videos. I used to go on canal holidays all over the country every year with a group at work and I often wondered how easy it would be to do one single handedly. I'm now 81 but your lovely videos are making me think about having a try, lift bridges notwithstanding.
So glad I stumbled across your channel and now fully subscribed. You are very calming to watch and listen to. Thank you 🎥🙏 Looking forward to your videos and watching the channel grow. Daz
@@bettyonaboat it will don't worry! I imagine it's a steep learning curve not only filming, but being in front of a camera! It will slowly feel more natural and you'll be more comfortable letting your true character show through. Don't worry, I think we all understand this and just love seeing you putting yourself out there! Keep going, your editing is great, quality is there (it's great that you're adding the details of where you are, history etc) - so all else will follow 💪
Hello Betty - greetings from Florida. My wife and I enjoyed watching your latest video today. My wife is originally from England and enjoys the history and beautiful views from your narrow boat on the canals. Good luck with your channel!
It's fabulous that your channel appeared on my timeline, interesting to see. Maybe for a future video you could explain how you decided on a narrowboat lifestyle. :o))
Hi Betty, I 'm a retired Chief Marine Engineer. I hope you don't think I'm being "holier than thou", I'm just passing on information! The manoeuvre you carried out to turn your boat is called "backing and filling" in nautical language!! You're very "down to earth" and logical in your observations. I like messing about in boats, and currently have a Viking 24 which I keep at home on a trailer, so I can take it anywhere I want!!
Hi! It was interesting that you mentioned your Barge Pole. I think most people are familiar with the term "I wouldn't touch it with a Barge Pole!" without even realising what it actually is! 😀😀
@@bettyonaboat there great. I'm doing the translation myself in 6 months and there really isn't a lot of "this is how you do" videos out there. To a total newbie it's great advice 👍
just come across your video channel, awesome, so calm and relaxing, as another comment said you take your time instead of rabbiting on at a million words a minute, definitely a channel to follow👍
Not sure why RU-vid suggested your first video to me but ended up watching all three now as there's something so relaxing and refreshingly honest about them I've subbed too so good look going forward.
Every time I look into my camera and speak, I get a mouthful of coat angers, I think your doing really well. Another 10 video's and we will nominate you for an Emmy:)
@@bettyonaboat I've watched all your videos so far betty and will continue to watch every one of them in the future for as long as you keep making them as I love your videos so much ❤️ xx
Another superb video Betty, thank you for sharing! I like the way you speed-up the cruising so we see more in less time. You're becoming so confident in your vlogging now and you didn't come across as miserable at all, please keep on with the great content 🙏
@@bettyonaboat I have never found you miserable yet Betty and could watch you for an hour or more if you ever decided to make a video that long as your such a pleasure to watch 😊
Love the channel and for once I’m here at the start in real time seeing the progress. Desperate to get my own boat but in the mean time I have folk like you keeping my dream at the forefront of my mind. 👍
I'm enjoying your vids Betty. Great to see a you tuber being born ! I've lived by canals all my life, in the black country. I'll live on one, one day, so it's great to get the basics 👍 Cheers
Great to see another video from you Betty. Thanks for sharing! I have boats in my blood (dad was a deep sea fisherman), so love seeing these sort of vids, and yours just seem so natural and unforced. Keep them coming!
I grew up near Teddington Lock, worked with a chap who lived on his narrowboat in the week and now live just half a mile from the Grand Union. And I've never been boating on a canal! So to be living your story is just great. When you get around to it, can you let us in on the tools of the trade? Windlasses, bargepoles, etc! And, to add to what everyone else is saying, yow bin bostin'.
Thanks for the vid, it looks like you’re getting more comfortable in front of the camera 👍 Thank you for the ‘water works’ explanation 😊 Safe travels 👍
14, 000 subscribers - wow! I think you are just lovely to watch and listen to. It's peaceful watching you drift along the canals, and for you to tell us about your boat. I really enjoy your videos. You are so natural. Thank you.
My love for the narrowboat start for year’s ago on RU-vid. Last year we had our first narrowboat holiday day for a week and I can say, it was one of the best holidays ever. This year we will go again, can’t wait. , until then I really enjoy your video’s.
It's great that people are being introduced with narrowboats and canals through RU-vid. Narrowboat holidays are so fun, I hired a couple of boats with friends before I got mine. I hope you enjoy your holiday and the weather is good for you!
Hi Betty, another great video, don't worry if people might think your videos are boring as they aren't, I have found every one of them interesting and really enjoy watching you. What you cooked for your lunch looked lovely. Would love to see you do a tour of your boat if possible ❤
Bonjour Betty.
Betty
my colleague here in nz, has a canal boat in France, he has sold me the dream, but that,s it, really a dream no canals in nz, so thanks so much for your lovely vlog. Very comforting. Keep it up. Love from New Zealand.
Hi, Just caught up with your latest video, I must say you are making a great job documenting your adventures, keep them coming, canal journeys are like a breath of fresh air. thanks Rio
I love your videos so far. They’re really well shot and edited, but you’ve kept a lovely natural, human aspect that some RU-vid films somehow lose. I’ve got so many questions about narrowboat life. It looks so idyllic but I know there are obstacles. I can’t wait for more videos explaining how you go about living the life. Please keep the videos coming! x
Thank you, I've only done it a few times and always worry about it a bit! Yes there are some nice pubs. I had a meal at the Clock Warehouse and it's really nice inside and outside.
I was re-watching this one and noticed something. When you are filling the tank, you said insert the hose in the tank and turn on the tap. You really should turn on the tap and flush your hose then stick the end in the fill. You don't need the grunge in your system, or in you. Bacteria, possible mold, and general debris, as well as insects can get started easily in damp dark spaces. Just a thought. And thats in potable water hoses. General garden hoses are even worse as they contain certain toxins to help prevent the bacteria growth. Thats why even at your house, it's not safe to drink from the hose on a hot day unless you flush it first.
3 videos and over 7k subscribers, must be doing something right !! I think it’s the no faffing ,natural way these are put together that people are liking. Too many over the top , long winded channels now . Keep up the great work !
@@wonderingworld119 "boat tuber" really? 😏 I dunno, when I type in narrowboat I just get mostly thumbnails of women. When I just want fat dave on a boat....where is that channel 😋
@@AminorMorning I am sure you know how google ( who owns youtube ) works. Basically it knows a lot of stuff about you, the sort of things you personally search for, the sort of things you are personally likely to click on. It is just a mirror really. Country house gent, cruising the cut, foxes afloat and even way back Myk askin ( probably the original one ) and shortly after that sort of interesting. Hope this helps.
Hi Betty ! great set of video,s fairplay to you for taking the plunge ! Im Ireland and grew up on the Grand canal our summers were spent fishing and swimming and helping (or hindering 😀) boaters through our local lock ! We used to love seen the narrow boats and the barges then a treat would come along in a cruiser ( the were Yachts to us !!) Il look forward to your next video. Best regards Pat.
Another great video, Betty! The ducks jumping out of the water for your 3 point turn, and then diving back in again when you were done made me chuckle... I don't know why, haha
Hi Betty, Got recommended your Video afew days ago, maybe because i watch a sailing boat Vlog. I know that bit of canal quite well as ive cycled along it to the Clock Warehouse afew times- very beautiful. Really enjoyed watching your videos and look forward to following your journey🙂.
I am loving this, nice, simple and genuine. I've lived in midlands around the canals most of my life so I know the history and so forth well, huge part of the UK history. The only thing I worry about Betty as your being honest where you are, I would maybe not say a direct location, or impose a delay on releasing videos after you have moved on, so no one.. unsavoury could track your location.
