brilliant video! I currently study Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Business at A Level, but my end goal is to study engineering at Oxbridge/Imperial etc - I genuinely HATE business (it is just far too simple for me to gain enjoyment from it!!) and I want to drop it and focus on my 3 subjects that matter! - If I did decide to drop - would this negatively effect my chances of getting accepted into Oxbridge? Cheers!

Aldric : It would be better to drop it before you apply, instead of after you apply. If you have already applied, I would advise you to just pull through the subject, because dropping it will signal to the universities that you can’t handle the workload. If you really dislike the subject, it would be best to drop it. Plenty of people get into Oxbridge/imperial with only 3 subjects. Cheers! 🍻

@@GenieusHub Brilliant - I haven’t applied yet so I suppose I shall work on it right away as soon I’m back in college next week. Thank you as ever!

Hi Does the general secondary total affect admission, knowing that I want to study architecture, and is there a preparatory year at the University of Cambridge as an alternative to the secondary total ? from Egypt.

Thanks for the video. Do you recommend taking the STEP paper? The website doesnt state we need to take it (except for maybe 1 or 2 colleges), but would it increase your chance of getting an offer if you took it anyway? Or is it not worth the time investment?

🧒 Aldric : Hey Ben, if I recall correctly, Christ and Peterhouse are the two which needs STEP papers, other colleges no. I wouldn’t take STEP if it isn’t required (because I’m not confident in my own mathematical abilities) but if you are interested in maths you can definitely take it. If you want to do STEP to improve either your interview skills or ENGAA i would say the gains are marginal, as the questions given are fundamentally different. The much better option to prepare for those are the go through questions in i-want-to-study-engineering.org Hope this is helpful! ❤️

Are you going to take STEP? I was thinking the same thing as you tbh
@Ben-jm8fc
@Ben-jm8fc 3 года назад
@@two697 No. It doesn't seem to affect your chance of an offer, as you don't take it until you have got your offer. It is also notoriously very difficult so would just be a lot of added stress after your A levels for no good reason.

Very useful video! Thanks. But Cambridge website said further maths is strongly recommended and if it wasn’t chosen then we should do as much “additional maths as possible by studying as level further maths.” Would further maths be useful for the admission test or will it just help you with the engineering degree? And if I do study it in my own time, should I write about it in my personal statement ?

Further maths would help you with your engineering degree, as for the admissions test, don't worry, no further maths knowledge is needed

Is it possible for someone to enter to Engineering at Cambridge without IB and A levels?
@GenieusHub
@GenieusHub 3 года назад
🙆‍♂️ Aldric: Yes! As far as I know, they even accept STPM as their entry requirements. It would be best for you to check it out on their official website, as well as the specific course entry requirements. Here's a helpful link: www.undergraduate.study.cam.ac.uk/applying/entrance-requirements Hope this helps ❤️

Can someone get in to study engineering without further math
@GenieusHub
@GenieusHub 3 года назад
Aldric: Yes! But further maths is strongly recommended especially for the Russell group universities. It is best to check individual university admissions requirements just to make sure. As for Cambridge, it varies from college to college, so unfortunately you’d have to do a little more research if you want to apply! Some colleges (2 I have in mind are Peterhouse and Christ) even requires STEP papers. But regardless if you took up Further Maths or not, it would be essential to learn as much maths as possible even outside the syllabus if you want to become and engineer, it’s our lifeblood! Hope this will help! 🙆‍♂️
