i'm in my last year of undergrad & have a 3.2, which isn't bad but also not stellar, but i know what nice r1 school i wanna go to , yes... BE DELUSIONAL. email research faculty, schedule zoom meetings with professors, also, if reasonable, drive to the campus to meet face to face with faculty! also, do all you can to prepare for an interview, they wanna see that you really want to be in the program and why it would be a great fit for you and your career goals.
I don't know what motivated you to tell your story... But you just saved a man from 'dumping' his grad school dream. I'm almost crying watching this video, and I have a 2.54 GPA with amazing four years post graduation work experience with trainings and certifications. 😢 People* said my 2.5 GPA be too low to do sh!t🤦🏾♂️ 🤦🏾♂️
I recently was asked to write a statement begging for a GPA WAIVER because my Undergraduate GPA was below, average. All I can say is that Jesus took the will, I believe that Statement was 10 times better than my SOP.
Of course! Also, once you enter grad school and focus on your specific topic of interest, the things you remember about the subject come so much easier
I just graduated this may with my bachelor’s degree in criminology and criminal justice with a minor in psychology and I knew I wanted to attend graduate school. However, my math class tanked my gpa to a 2.9 and the recommended gpa for the program was a 3.0 but I had great recommendation letters and I killed my interview with the program director for the criminal justice program and I received my acceptance letter just this weekend 🙌🏽. So I said all that to say that even if you think it’s a long shot try anyway because you may surprise yourself ❤❤❤❤
Being delusional is where it’s at. I have a 3.1 undergrad GPA in French and decided I wanted to switch to biology for grad school. I started emailing the fuck out of people and actually researching and coming up with problems I want to solve and to my surprise I had a good chunk of the people I emailed respond positively and say they’d be willing to be my advisor
If your personal statement is anything like your conversation voice, I know you blew them away! Go ahead, girl! I am motivated by your testimony. Congrats!!
That is impressive of progress in phd of earth science. I was in similar situation and I have to retake calculus 2 for the future goal. I am self study calc 2 and physics calc based for as a hobby. I am taking chemistry this semester.
Thank you for the encouragement. I don't see you as lazy person from the video when you describe yourself. It ok to take long time to study for a PhD in stem. To me, it better take time to understand and get ready to take it. It happens to everyone in first impression vs later when taking it in future. My first impression of people talking calc 1-2, it didn't make sense but years later it make sense after practice. Gotta practice lot and I read organic chemic as second language book. Their tips is practice is number one friend and it not memorize. It like being exposed to movie 10 times by knowing their details than memorize. @@EmmaJeanFuturePhD
Thank you for this video! I’ve been contemplating pursuing my PhD but the imposter syndrome is killing me 😔 still doing my research on it and determining if it’s even necessary for the work I want to do. I currently have a MSW.
I agree. If the work you want to do requires PhD, please apply. If you need more info about certain universities, please feel free to contact me on my website emmabouie.com , I can connect you with other Black students in Social Work/Social Sciences PhD programs
Things are much better academically, thank you! I love meeting alumni and would love to connect to hear your experience/advice at this specific university
Damn my husband has 2 degrees both cum laude and he thinks he isnt good enough for phd school, plus has great LOR, publications, research experience lol...Wow god for you. My husband literally thinks no school will accept him
Thank you so much for this! Would love to connect with you to get to learn more. How would you say this would apply for an MBA? I’m definitely delulu, but you gave me a lot of hope in networking!
I am not completely sure when it comes to MBA and do not want to steer you wrong. I highly encourage you to check out @rareliquid here on RU-vid. Great MBA student content!
