can you do a video on explaining gallatin? i’m thinking about transferring too but confused on what “individualized study” really means.
@rosyholiday9711
@rosyholiday9711 4 года назад
Hi! I really should’ve explained Gallatin more in the video, I apologize haha but it’s basically where you design your own concentration but on paper/diploma it will be an individualized studies major. Gallatin does have requirements like seminars and writing workshops but once you complete those, you can technically take any class you want at other schools that allow cross registration. Hopefully that explains everything in a nutshell! Let me know if you have more questions!

I absolutely love this! Thank you so much!!! However, I will say one thing about the GPA cutoff, NYU definitely has academic minimums, especially for transfers, usually at least a 3.5. And most selective schools in general, I think, use this as a cutoff. The only time they might still consider your app despite not meeting the cutoff is if you have perfect or near-perfect sat or act or aps. (>1500, >33, 4 or 5). How do I know this? I literally called the admissions office and asked the NYU adcom about bad gpas and they directly told me. It also fits with the statistical data available for admitted and accepted students. Hope this helps!

What would you say is the importance of extracurriculars when applying to NYU as a transfer student vs applying to NYU as a first year? Is the format for listing ECs on the common app the same as a transfer student?

I discussed the importance and the comparisons in my video! Yes, it is the same, if not similar, I believe.

Hello 👋 You advised not to submit ec's from highschool that aren't significant enough. I have ec's from both highschool and college that I made a lot of impact in......like a lot! So do I submit it? And I'm a freshman in my college, I plan to transfer for next year fall I just finished first semester taking 24 credits and I'll do the same in second semester because that is how rigorous schools in my home country is

Hi Rosy, I was wondering on your opinion of transferring as a Junior. I’m a upcoming Junior in the fall at my university and a lot of colleges/universities don’t really accept transfer students that has done more than two years at their current university. Should I not attend my fall semester and still apply to give me a higher chance? Or should I still attend my classes in the fall and apply to see which one accepts me? Could I negotiate if the only issue my transferring university has with me is that I have too many credits? Thank you!
@rosyholiday9711
@rosyholiday9711 2 года назад
Hi! I'm honestly not too sure about your situation since you're right, many colleges prefer transfer students who have done no more than two years. However, a friend of mine who is a rising senior actually got into NYU Tisch, but their process is very different due to auditioning. I strongly recommend that you meet with transfer advisors from the colleges you want to transfer to and explain your situation. Go on their website, fill out a form, or even better, call/email them directly. They are the ones that can give you more meaningul and accurate advice. Good luck!

Did you ever figure this out? I’m in the same boat as you, trying to see if it’s worth dropping out this semester to help my chances of transferring. Waitlisted as a freshman and now applying to transfer as a junior.
@minimissmai
@minimissmai Год назад
@@tasty0rang3 Hi, yes I did. I did actually drop out this semester due to some personal issues. What I found out is that there are some universities that do not accept transfer that have entered/done their junior year of college due to the fact that they require for transfers to be at their university for at least 2-3 years. There are universities that allow anyone to transfer due to them limiting the amount of credits that transfer, which means you’ll have to start as a freshman or sophomore again anyways. There were some universities that accepts transfers, doesn’t matter what year you’re currently in, but they do not accept transfers into some of their programs such as say like their theatre program. There were programs that require me to restart all of college even if my credits transferred 😂, to which I passed on. Look at the transfer requirements to get into the university and then look into the program you want to get into to see if there are additional supplements. To be honest, for myself I think taking a gap year had more cons for me on my applications. It’s harder for me to connect with Professors who are writing my letters of recommendations and getting forms from my uni to the universities I’m applying to. Since I’m majoring in music and theatre, I lost some skills from not constantly practice my art. I’m currently not doing anything related to theatre too due to my situation, but I’m happy at where I am now. I don’t have to worry about applying to universities that don’t accept juniors. There are also parts of the application that I can make good to back me up such as my essays and resumes. I would say if you’re going to take a gap year and apply to transfer then you gotta do something that supports you taking a gap year. Colleges are going to ask why you’re taking a gap year and not starting your upcoming/current school year. They don’t want you doing nothing. I hope this helps.

I really really want to transfer to NYU, I’m about to start at Pace as a freshman so I want to be as prepared as possible, and I was reading the nyu transfer student section and they said they don’t offer any awards or scholarships to transfer students, which is kind of a deal breaker.

If it’s the only experience you had, then of course put high school extracurriculars! College ec’s have priority; however, adding your high school involvement won’t hurt you at all. Admissions will take grades, essays, and letter of recs into account. Don’t be discouraged! :)

Also do you think it matters which university you are transferring from into NYU? Like for say, whether you are transferring from Carnegie Mellon (which has massive grade deflation and incredibly challenging coursework in general) with a 3.4 GPA compared to if you are transferring from a community college with a 3.9 GPA, would the standards for evaluating GPA and EC be different for the students? Btw I'm not saying CCs are bad at all but I'm just wondering if there are different standards regrading the application depending on what school you are transferring from
@rosyholiday9711
@rosyholiday9711 2 года назад
It really all depends. I cannot speak for NYU's admissions committee; however, I was able to get accepted as a student from a public university that isn't as well ranked as other institutions, like UCLA. I don't know NYU's standards. But, GPA is GPA! They look at you holistically.
