studyquill this reminds me of the Mean Girls scene where Regina goes “Wow you’re like really pretty!” And Candy goes “Thank you” and Regina responds “Oh so you agree you’re really pretty???” Also thank you! I just found your channel a month or so ago and these college videos are really helpful
Isn't this scary that she got rejected from so many schools even though she seems to be a perfect student? Perfect GPA, very good test scores, top notch extracurriculars, internships, big YT channel, published a book...
@@veraniaamaton6747 it shows passion, creativity, and the fact that she balanced and grew a channel while also getting those grades and test scores and gpa
Well I saw a girl who got a 1300 and a girl that got a 1440, the girl with a 1300 got into Princeton and Harvard. And the girl with a 1440 got into Stanford. They did the same amount of ec’s as the girl in this video and their marks on their AP exams weren’t perfect I remember the Stanford girl getting a 2, and the Harvard girl got mostly B’s in her last year of high-school, also they weren’t rich so they couldn’t buy their way in. Sometimes what the admission officers are looking for is a specific personality, the girl in the video seems like a perfect UCLA student and fits right in and the girl that got into Princeton has the perfect Princeton attitude.
Honestly I really wish I had tailored high school more to college apps. I really regret it now. I wish I had put more effort into my EC's but it was so hard for me just to get my 4.0 gpa
@Ptolemy 1i think it is. i’m in 9th grade rn and i wish i had tailored my middle school years better, because i had so many opportunities that could’ve boosted me right now, if i had taken them.
@@user-gc9vq7vo8e dw, I started grinding EC's in 9th when quarantine first started and by 9th summer, I had done a lot. Unfortunately, when 10th grade started, schoolwork overwhelmed me to the point where I did not focus on EC's. This caused a major bump in the road but its honestly not that hard to recover from. The best advice I have for you is to focus on a common theme in your application.
really curious to hear your parents' side of the story! what you were like growing up, what their thoughts are of your youtube channel, academic decisions, etc.
Don't tell yourself that. As someone with almost 30 years of living experience, unless you have abusive parents (emotional abuse counts btw), your family doesn't think that about you. No one actually thinks that about you unless you're a legit loser who has no ambition to improve in life. THAT'S a failure. 99% of you (including Jasmine) are too young to even be failures at life lmao! However, it's good that you acknowledge that you can improve as a person. We ALL can. But self-improvement doesn't start with self-hate. Acknowledge your problem areas, then actively try to work on them. No one asks you to be perfect, because it's not real. All we ask is for you to try your best in what you do, and to attempt to better yourself as a person. That's literally it. Don't make it harder than it has to be. Take it from someone who's been there, done that, for 29 years.
Current UCLA student here. First of all, congrats and welcome! Second, this is probably the most comprehensive admissions video for UCLA that I've seen. Great job :)
thank you!! i'm excited to take classes in some new cool subjects. UCLA is a BIG school with a huge range of offerings. which means i get to learn about new things that I've never been exposed to in high school!
I'm currently in 8th grade and i feel like getting into college is the hardest thing in life...you have the studies, money management and other responsibilities which really scare me...but jasmine explains it with such ease i kind of get confidence in myself...please keep making videos like this...i really love them and thanks a lot
oh my god, how did you have time to sleep or even breath! Congratulations btw. As someone from Germany, where basically all you have to do is enroll in the course, I can‘t believe how much you have to do and consider to get into a good university.
Right? I don't get how these superstar prodigies have time to sleep or breathe. I am definitely not one of them, in fact I had to do three all nighters per week just to maintain a good GPA and I basically didn't have a life. I don't know how I would have managed to do stellar ECs and stuff at the same time.
I used your study tips and skills to help me grind throughout my community college experience - and now I’m attending UCLA in the fall, as are you! That’s crazy! Go Bruins!
Congratulations! Here in Portugal getting into a university is much simpler than in the USA. It's only based on your high school average and a few of the exams we have to take. It's a good system because discrimation can't happen, but it's also bad because some people that have the dream for a certain course and can't get in by a few decimals...
Jasmine, this video actually made me emotional lol. I've been watching you since my sophomore year in HS and have been in college since last year, to finally see you going too is like watching a friend begin a new cycle. I really hope you enjoy college!!
i’ve been watching your videos since seventh grade, and i’m going into sophomore year of high school! i’ve been getting straight A’s because of your study videos!! thank you so so much
You should do a video on how you spaced out and worked on each aspect of your applications! It would be really helpful to see if and how you broke it up into manageable sections!!
I got so excited when she said “the room where it happens” because like Hamilton and also Hamilton movie comes out on Disney plus July 3 I am so excited 😊
I love you mentioned that this video wasn't for bragging purposes nor showing off yourself, not only that, but you weren't afraid to show what you didn't succeed (the rejections..) nor treated it as a forever mistake but instead used it to guide where you are now!
do colleges really care about AP classes? Like my school doesn’t really let us choose what AP classes we get, we just get chosen based on recommendation and if we are eligible, academically, to be part of that class. But I already have very high grades, so what that make up for it??
The main purpose of taking AP classes is so you can pass your AP exam to not have to take the class again when you're in college and waste money and time.
i think ap classes are more a financial situation. they help save many by having you take the college class in high school to earn college credits and to help you save time and money. i could be wrong but i personally think it looks better to have very high grades in a regular course rather than low or medium grades in an ap course.
Everything is Grucci TM AP’s do count. I don’t consider myself a genius. But I took 9 AP classes. Passed all of them with 4s and 5s. My GPA was fine. I ran in the track team for 3 years. Got accepted to Columbia University. AP classes demonstrate that you can handle the college level courses, showing Universities that you will have an easier time to adjust to college rather than a person that has NOT taken AP classes.
Congratulations Jasmine! UCLA is my dream school, and this video was super helpful! I’m hoping to be part of mariachi UCLAtlán one day! I’ve watched you grow since I was in 8th grade, and I’m so proud of you! I know you’re going to do incredible things in the future! ❤️
Hello Jasmine! We at Melodies for Math would like to say congratulations on your acceptance! Your videos have been super helpful for all of us, and we can't wait to see more of your successes!
this made me feel so much better bc my high school activities have mainly been in the arts/humanities/sports but i wanna apply as a stem major so i was scared bc i didn’t really pursue my major outside of taking AP classes. well rounded students unite
omg wow I’ve been a subscriber for a couple years I used to watch your videos because they were so calming to watch and now I’m transferring to ucla!!! idk I think that’s so cute and full circle? best of luck to you in college!!
hey I noticed you took psychology + sociology as a college course. does that mean you took it as dual enrollment? if so, could you possibly make a video about dual enrollment and the maybe what classes you suggest for seniors to take because I am thinking of doing that. also does that mean you were able to leave campus early since you had only 5 classes?
hey! i've taken dual enrollment classes for literally all of high school. i live in texas, but i'm sure this translates to every state. these credits almost always transfer to colleges INSIDE of your state and almost never transfer to colleges outside. for example in my case, NYU wouldn't accept my credits. however, what i did was take these dual classes and also challenge the AP test at the end of the year since my school offered that option. i would honestly recommend taking these classes because in my experience they were way easier than AP classes and taught pretty much the same material. leaving campus early depends on your school. again in my case, my schedule consists of 8 classes plus lunch, and since i already have most of the credits i need to graduate, i could leave early if i got a job! i hope i was able to help :)
So I’m taking a few dual credit classes and I live in Texas. Dual credit transfers to most schools in Texas and maybe out of state (you’ll have to check out of state schools to check if they’ll take it). If you stay in state I would recommend taking as many dual credit classes as possible that way you can get some college classes out of the way, like for me I’m taking DC for college algebra, English, and government and economics. Leaving school early depends on your school but most likely seniors get off campus, but you’ll have to be careful with scheduling your DC classes.
@@sparkle0859 dual classes are taught by college professors. they want you to succeed and will work with you if you demonstrate interest. it depends with professors obviously, but my professors were much more chill than AP teachers. my guess is that AP teachers have a set curriculum made by a national organization that they HAVE to stick to, whereas college professors are more flexible with everything. i really hope i was able to answer your question!
I got into UCLA with like a 1500 something on the SAT, but this was back when it was out of 2400... which is absolutely horrible. I just graduated from UCLA with a phenomenal GPA, so don't let your SAT score discourage you!
Congrats on getting into UCLA 🐻 I've been wanting to go and watch their gymnastics team but I'm miles and miles away. Good luck for college and I hope you continue vlogging your experiences! ♥️
This is so awesome love this video. Finally someone who makes videos thats actually helpful to so many people. You are so inspiring jasmine thank you so much for this amazing content.❤️❤️
1) CONGRATULATIONS JASMINE! I can't believe you got into UCLA! you should be very proud of yourself, you're such a role model and I turn to your channel since I don't really have anyone in my life as wise as you. 2) I love how concise, aesthetic, and useful your videos are, I enjoy watching them so much; keep up your awesome videos! But remember to take a breather every once in a while because your life seems very busy. Nonetheless, thank you, thank you, thank you, and THANK YOU.
Congratulations, Jasmine! Such an authentic video, a great guide for others. I've used your videos and advice in buying a kit of materials for my niece as a middle school graduation present as she goes into HS, and she's just yesterday got accepted to a business-oriented HS. (And that includes your book, which I highly recommend!!!!!!!!) TBH, the main thought that I couldn't get away from as this video developed, is how you possibly could have been rejected by any college/university, no matter what their process or standards was. I was also curious if, besides showing samples of your calligraphy/bullet journaling, if you actually did any of the application using your calligraphy/lettering as opposed to typing it up. Blessings and best of luck to you at UCLA and beyond. So great that you are using your channel as a way to help others!
8:18 "i fundamentally believe myself to be a cripplingly mediocre uninteresting individual" "I effectively pretended I have self- esteem so go me" do you have any idea how relatable you are 😭 // but also, i just wanna say that you seem to be an amazing person (and no you haven't "tricked" me into thinking that way [i know a bit about how this mentality works lmao]) and btw it's not like i know you but i've been your subscriber since mid 2017 and your videos are incredibly helpful so... idk you're not mediocre nor uninteresting for whatever that's worth 😊
I’m so excited for you to start 🥺 I’m such a huge fan! I also go to UCLA, I’m going to a second year and hopefully one day once covid is over we could bond over studying and stationery!
I agree with you that high school life shouldn’t be something manufactured for college apps! Yes I admit that I am sad about some of the opportunities that I’ve missed due to not actively searching for ways to boost my college application, but ultimately I’m proud to say that I’ve remained (mostly) authentic throughout high school.
Congrats!! Best wishes at UCLA and congrats on graduating!! Probably for a very small audience but the UC top 9% applies to all California schools (not just public).
Congratulations!! Love the transparency. I think it was natural for me to be curious (I was anticipating on when you'd do this.) I didn't expect you'd need so much writing really. In my place, all you need is money, good grades and will to study. 😂😂 I was wondering if could you give tips about creative writing? -from a 10th grader who wants to pull up their grades (writing is dragging my grades down like it's a concern my teachers and I share) Thank you! Congrats again!
Thanks for this video! You have helped me so much. I just finished my Freshman year with good grades, and I am switching schools to pursue other opportunities. Your videos have helped me make the decision and given me the confidence to switch.
2 quick comments about your application that stood out to me. Full disclosure: I am a certified admissions reader for UC but have not worked as an actual admissions reader yet. 1) UCLA looks at full weighted GPA in addition to the capped and weighted GPA because they get so many applications. It helps them to differentiate between all the fantastic applicants. Prior to 2021, UCLA used the SAT for admissions. 2) Your SAT score is in the top 1% of all individuals in the United States. This likely played a huge factor in your admission despite the fact that you only took 3 AP courses prior to senior year. I think your application was definitely competitive but there is a chance that if you applied to the school of engineering you may not have been accepted because those applicants are typically beyond stellar. Many have 6+ AP tests taken by grade 12 including calculus BC, chemistry, and physics. However, you did get in and congratulations to you. Keep working hard!
I love watching you talk! I live in Australia, so I feel like I understand a lot of what your saying only because I just watched the last "To all the boy's I loved before" Thanks Peter Kavinsky 😂
Woah. What a coincidence, I just finished watching Conan's video and came here through recommendations (I'm already a subscriber of yours) and now you just mentioned him. ❤️
i’m gonna take your tips and hope i get straight A’s in freshman year bc all this time ive been relying on my natural born skill as well as the lack of difficult work in my school to get my straights A’s so far
