HOW I GOT MY MOTORBIKE LICENSE AFTER NEVER RIDING A MOTORBIKE! 

I was knocked off my bike a couple of years ago by a careless car driver. I was quite seriously injured with several broken bones. It was near a well known bikers spot so many bikers rode past while I waited for an ambulance. EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM stopped to see if I was OK. It really helped keep my spirits up. It's like a family.

I have been riding for 53 years now and the one thing I have learned and would pass on to any new rider is. "When you get on your bike think that you are invisible to other road users" They will kill you and say "I didn't see him"

Funny thing with the insurance. I rode a 125cc scooter for two years on my CBT. Then I did my A. I didn't actually consider riding a big bike. I just didn't see the point of doing my A1, so I did my A. The moment plans changed was when I started practicing for the hazard avoidance. The moment I opened the throttle on the ER6, I was hooked. There is nothing like that feeling. So I passed my A and bought an 89 GPX750R. I thought the insurance would cost a fortune. I was advised to go for multi bike insurance as I still use the scooter as my commuter. Stuck the GPX on third party, my insurance got cheaper! It was cheaper to insure two than one. 🤷

It's a bit more straight forward in New Zealand. If you have your full car license, you can ride a 50cc scooter. Above that you need a bike license. With a full car license you pass a simple handling skills test and you can ride any bike under 650cc. After two years and a final test, you can ride any bike you want. Insurance is much cheaper here too because there is far less car/bike theft. You are much more likely to crash than have your vehicle stolen here so that reduces the premiums.

Few bits wrong. DAS refers to going from a cbt to a full license in one course. You will normally only see it refer to someone over 24 going from no cbt to a full license. Second bit. The A1 whilst being a full test still limits you to a 125 so you get the same performance as just being on a cbt. So most young dedicated riders will skip it. CBT > A2 > A

This might be an unpopular opinion with fellow car guys, but i've always thought the car licence could learn from the bike licence, not with being so complicated, but that there should be different licences for different bhp/power cars, there's way too many people on our roads with cars that are way too powerful/large for them to be able to control properly.

I have a bike and a VW camper and a car. I also ride a pedal bike and walk places. The only time nobody waves (or in the case or walking just says hello) is in the car. Car drivers are just fookin miserable or are staring at their phones.

im a cbt instructor.......... you cant legally fail as its a constant assesment....... the theory isnt needed but we dont teach you highway code we do however test you understand highway code well enough to be safe and satisfactory... we dont need perfect just safe. we do have critirea you must meet but we often get told by students its a pay and walk away with a cbt certificate....... this is far from the case. dvsa are very strict to how we operate and becoming an instructor is very difficult lol

Done mine when I was 42….any younger and I’d be dead after week. Some people mature slower than others 😂🤣 @42 I waited 6 months before trying to wheelie, if I was 24 it would of been 6 hours max 🤣 stay safe

I’m currently getting my car license back after a ban and really want to do my bike license as I don’t see myself getting a personal car anytime soon. I can easily share a car with my mrs so my own bike seems like the way forward……however insurance looks slightly different for me given I’ve got a ban, saying I passed a month ago with my DD40 conviction get zero results on anything….fucked it 🤣

You can fail a cbt when I did mine 2 guys failed one was thrown put before even getting to go out on the road he had a car licence and was trying for his cbt he shoot across the carpark and straight up a chain link fence flipped the big and smashed all the farings off the moped he was riding our instructor as pissed off the whole cbt other guy was brought back after 10 to 15 min on the road he was doing 60 down a bus lane and crashed on a round about only myself and one other guy finished the test and passed

Well done Lee can I ask where did you get your insurance from as I got quoted £4k for a similar bike got my full bike license 6 months ago and don’t drive but was shocked how cheap your bike insurance is any advice?

I pay £2000 on insurance for my 125cc Lexmoto tempest, I think its because Im 20, I got no claims or points or anything

,you can't legally fail the cbt.People fail it all the time. Trust me I know I was the only one out of my group that passed the cbt.

Enjoyed that pal, I’ve had my full license nearly 2 years now and I’m 39 this year. Everyone said I was stupid for doing it late but you’re never too old! I’ve almost lost interest in cars now, I’ve got a 500bhp S4 that I thought was fast, until I got my Tuono 1100 V4 factory 😬 Once your on a big superbike it’s like nothing you’ll have ever experienced on 4 wheels!

I did mine 2yr ago at 44. After years of jet ski's. CBT, theory, training, MOD1 MOD 2 in 27 days from start to finish ha. Bought a GSXR1000. Best thing ive ever done. Best of luck to you 👍. Ive now moved onto a ZX-10R. Just respect what you ride and ride your own ride and you will be fine.

Sod the cost, whats the point when you're retired in sitting in a high backed chair listening to Classic FM. I want to meet my maker while hurtling down a German Autobahn or while driving down to the sunshine in the South of France. My motocross mad 13yr old godson persuaded me to get my first bike at 68. Rode the 125 for a few months then took my full test and passed first time. I was given a sign that says "if you've never owned one, youll never understand " and I think that sums it up completely. Love my 790 duke !

Good imformative video. I'm just about to do all of this at 60 years of age having not sat on a bike since I was 26. I wish I done my test all those years ago, it would have saved a lot of money and hassle. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. Still never mind, onwards and upwards.

You don't "fail" the CBT because its not a test. However if you don't show the (very) basic level of competence to satisfy the instructor that you would be safe on the road unaccompanied, you wont be issued with the CBT certificate and you will be asked to undergo further training. So essentially at that point, you've failed and need to redo it.

Well done bro! I started mine, but after passing the theory and completing the cbt, I got t-boned whilst driving and couldn't physically ride or manoeuvre the bike without being in pain to continue. Thankfully, that's healed now after a few years, but I need to start all over again. Although I've just started my adi tests to become a driving instructor, and after being made redundant, I think I'll complete my direct access soon. After having some free time.. Love the videos man and can't wait to see more. I'm glad you're mixing the car and bike content together.

Congrats, I was shocked how different they train you, and they just want you to get up to the speed limit etc no hanging around where as car driving they want you to drag out and take all day To get up to speed etc. I loved my training week. Great fun it didn’t feel like a training week really just fun out on the bikes and visiting cafes etc 😂 I remember one time racing off the lights and briefly seeing triple figures and my instructor was still way ahead 😂

Well done Lee, I'm the same as you, been a car guy for 35 years and recently passed my A licence. I regret buying a 125 first though. Should have just got the cbt out the way and done the mod 1 and 2 and just bought a big bike. Once you've ridden a 600cc you won't ever want to bother with a 125 practice bike 😂

Congratulations! Its nice ride a big bike on the road. Definitely a great community. Passed my test 33 years ago and it was a practical only then. Rode for 3 years and life happened. Congratulations! I've been on bikes all my life, passed my road test 8 years ago and have stopped road riding now and stick to tracks. Be careful, don't feel pressured into pushing beyond your limits, and always remember that first feeling of proper speed you had! Although you may get used to it, the implications don't change! Please be careful lad, been a long-term viewer, but dont often comment. Watch out for plod and dash cams! Enjoy and I look forward to the upcoming videos 😊

congrats lad! its so daunting doing the test but once your on the road the relief youll feel is amazing not only for the reasons you stated but power of bikes compared to cars obviously ride your own ride dont compete but as a petrolhead who dont love the twist of a throttle! this isnt your normal but could be added to the repertoire but maybe do a few MotoVlogs just riding about talking through ideas and plans while also enjoying the bike and giving us something to look and listen to as you voice your ideas. regardless mate buzzing for you and would be happy if i catch you on a ride when i go between lowestoft and london

You learn a lot about almost being dead after the first couple of years. After 45 years on the road, if you're still alive and not killed anyone else, you're still looking out for the ones that have only been on the road for a couple of years, and staying well out of their way.

Best thing I ever did was get my bike license, now ride enduro. Plenty of videos on my channel!! Should ride with us👌🏻
