How I got rid of Jericho's urinary crystals 

I’m 57, handling cats since I’m 4, the old rule is dawn and dusk with two smaller treat meals I call it… for adult cats . Adult cats outside I’ve watched go catch many small prey about 6 times a day. Don’t forget all cats have a fast digestion …. Kittens I leave on Mom for 6 weeks no more. Start feeding wet at 4 weeks, 3 times a day. Back in the early 70’s it was easier to get farm fresh meats and parts as my Dad did many times. We gave raw until my Mom saw it more convenient to got to the store. In my teens I did agree and continued raw for whatever pets we had although she kept buying manufactured..Now days the loads of fillers and junk out there makes it easier for dietary issues. Sorry to hear of his crystals it really is painful for them . We had that issue with an older black male . 💛 you’re wonderful by the way!

I feel like you’re always researching and learning and trying to products so it would be nice to know how Jericho did taking the supplements in this video. Did they work? Is he still on them? Bless you for doing this because I had to have my baby at the vet for a week. He almost had a burst bladder from blockage. I incorporated more moisture into his diet but that was after viewing a video by a vet that said cats need more moisture.

Thank you for sharing. So far we're really excited with our cats breaking down the house with their new found energy lol. Rox has been doing really well on his new food. I'm currently getting him to a new kibble which is very low carb (5%) and cold-pressed. After that he'll go to 100% wet for his second meal of the day. I have not seen any issues with him so far. Rox gets his food at 9am through an auto feeder, then at 5:30 and finally at 8:30. Sky gets her breakfast a little earlier around 7am as she gets it from me. In the evening they eat at the same time. They each have their own feeding area, which we moved further apart for our own convenience and the cats are very pleased with it as well.

Thanks for the tips. The logic is intuitively plausible, however a sample size of 1 is not enough to determine that said steps were the actual remedy as opposed to crystals passing naturally, or some other unknown factor.

Are the test strips for people or for cats? What are they called?

This is probably like the worst thing to hear a pet owner say but we hear it all too often, I cannot even afford to take my pet to the vet. I hate having to be the one to say that but I actually rescued my cat or I thought I did. Maybe I did LOL. What happened, we had a cat that was just hanging around and she was really sweet, animals get dropped off on our road all the time and I thought I was rescuing her by giving her a home eventually after falling in love with her and then finding out that she was actually the people across the street or my neighbor's cat. It's a dirt road and we live just far enough away to where, I wouldn't have known that and I have never talked to them before. She's happy here, they are fine with it so apparently, I did rescue her in my eyes. I don't feed her a good quality food because bye-bye what I can afford. I've heard so much horrible things about dry cat foods that I pretty much look at them as all the same, the more expensive ones just put more advertisement out possibly? Maybe I'm wrong and I would like to go raw but I don't even nowhere to get that kind of stuff from. She started eating a lot and I actually thought she might have been pregnant because she gained so much weight. I'm one of those people who leads the food bowl out and it always has food in it, as well as the water so skip ahead about a month and she peed in this little play tent and it was on top of the towel for her and I thought I saw something white on it but didn't think much about it. Last night she peed on my old roommates pair of jeans lol and there were crystals all over the pair of jeans so something is going on and I think it's related to the weight gain because we never had this issue before. She even started pooping in the back of the house where we never go and I found like five piles and had to clean it all up. You seem very knowledgeable. She obviously has crystals because I can see them. I don't know which kind they are but with the weight gain, that could mean that she's diabetic or other serious diagnosis so I don't want to just like yank the food away. I know it's so hard to tell someone what to do when the animal really needs to see a vet. Most of the time she's okay, she just meows a lot and she's become very vocal but right now she's literally laying on her back staring at the ceiling, licking her feet with her fat belly hanging out and she looks happy LOL but I do think she's having some problems. If you can't help or you're just afraid to give me advice, I completely understand. I need to see if any vets in the area can help me for cheaper or something because I don't want her to suffer. That was the whole reason I rescued her. Your cat is gorgeous by the way

Hi, hoping to get a response on this if possible! Wondering what the significance in feeding earlier meals is? How does this encourage your cat to urinate at night? My cat seems to urinate at night usually as well as the morning, but I guess it could be more frequent than it is because I unfortunately didn't pay attention as often to the timings she urinates - I just paid attention to the amount that was in the box!

My 1 year old female has bladder crystals. How I realized she had a problem, she started peeing on couch rather than litter box. Do you know if she will resume litter box after surgery? And stop using couch etc? Thanks

Sorry I missed the live! Back in the day, a LONG time ago, one of my cats had so many crystals and blockages he ended up having that surgery to pretty much "turn him into a female". I can't remember the technical name of the surgery. Then of course he was put on Hill's Science Diet SD (and it was DRY food!!!) for the rest of his life!! Poor guy!!! If I only knew then what I know today!!! Then I had one more with crystal issues also, but not quite as bad, he was put on Hill's CD!! He hated that food and wouldn't eat it so we then switched him to the Royal Canin version, but still, when I think of the quality of those awful foods, I just cringe now!!! It's so good to have so many more options and better research today to know how to prevent this in the first place!! This video was awesome, I only wish I could have seen it back then! lol. hi🎉 I live in the Russian Federation. I have a cat, a Highland Fold breed, he is 3 years old, but he was given to me when he was already one year old, and he lived in the village and ate everything that people eat at the table: for example, pasta, boiled potatoes, and so on. The first year I fed him purely raw animal food: for example, chicken necks, chicken liver, chicken skin, minced turkey - all the products were raw. But then, I got lazy and started giving him cheap dry food: Felix, Kitekat. Then I noticed that he began to drink little water in the month of July, in the heat, and sometimes the water evaporated while I was not at home, and he simply did not drink enough liquid, the urine became concentrated. And then I noticed that the cat stopped peeing altogether and walked barely moving, lost his appetite, he vomited and had a full bladder, I took him for catheterization of the bladder, the catheter was installed, and then immediately removed, there was a lot of squirt in the urine , cloudy urine and a lot of mucus, a lot of suspended matter, and in general the cat got very sick. After removing the catheter, he immediately came to life and he had an appetite and he was even playful and so on, but after that he again began to pee every other time (literally every other day), sometimes I took him to express his bladder, they gave him drugs: Drotaverine or no-spa meloxivet, and he even sometimes emptied his bladder on his own at the moment he fell asleep and the sphincters relaxed. But then he began to deteriorate again, I refused antibiotics, and tests too, because I couldn’t afford it. Now I’ve started giving him, in addition to raw meat, which he’s been eating for 2 weeks now. I’ve been giving him Royal Canin urinary for 2 days now, so we’ll see what happens next. Also my observations: after two weeks of feeding raw meat, I gave him wet food, which contains boiled meat, and after that he again experienced urinary retention. Perhaps this is connected somehow, perhaps or not.

Hi Jess! I am going to start feeding our two cats raw diet tonight and I am excited! I want to thank you again for educating us about raw diet and cat’s health! Your videos are very educational! One of my cats has struvite crystals in his bladder and I gave him a week of prescription diet then now I give him Cranimal (cranberry supplement for pets.) I am in Canada and I found raw fermented goat milk in pet store here. May I kindly ask if raw fermented goat milk is good or bad for cat with struvite crystals in bladder? When I did my research online, some said to avoid milk if struvite crystals or stones exist, some said fermented milk is acidic so it would good for dissolving or preventing struvite crystals, may I ask what’s your take on that? Can you talk about the reasoning behind feeding at 8, 7, and so soon again at 8? I thought 3 meals would be more spaced out no? Or are they different sized meals? Thank u! I’m sure u have a good reason so I just want to know so I can learn ! :)

This makes me nervous. Sunny will only typically eat small meals starting around 3pm & finishing about 11:30p. He seems to be hungriest in the later evening. He eats all canned Ziwi Peak & Feline Natural. We can't make him eat sooner.

Interesting video but there was no mention of cat's drinking water quality ie pH and Mineral level. I am under the understanding that good water quality has a positive role in preventing crystalization in a cat's urine. I give my cat water with a very low mineral content (< 5 ppm) and a pH of 6.3 which I understand is ideal. Am I wasting my time?

Jess please help me Im so stressed and depressed. I'm so sad took my cat in to the San Diego humane society he was blocked I couldn't afford the ER since he is a feril cat but has been in my care and in my house for 5 years they said since he was very aggressive to staff they needed to sedate him and that was very high$300 to $400 in cost not including overnight stay and meds. The San Diego humane society took him under the feril program unblocked him and sent him home with me with gabapentin meds twice a day and keep him in a silent dark area in my house. It's been 4 days he is now making frequent trips to the bathroom and eating and drinking water but begins to yowl from time to time. Just purchased Pretty litter and there is blood in his urine. Is this normal for blood and the yowling seems like he wants out since he likes being outside in the day time or is he in pain? Also have another feril cat a female whom they both are very close to each other but lately she has been a bully to him when he uses the litter box or gets near it. I have two litter boxes in the same place where they sleep. She now is temporarily staying outside so she can't bully my or make my cat possibly blocked again. The humane society said this type of block was from high stress and not diet. I still have him isolated in a dim silent place my garage but the blood in the urine and the yowling gets me worried. The humane society said you must keep him in a dim low noise place for a week and keep giving him gabapentin and wet foid If blocked reoccur then they may just do euthanasia since he is very aggressive with staff and difficult to handle. Funny he is not like that with me. I love him very much 5 years of TLC took me a year to gain his trust and it was pain staking. Am I over reacting? Stressing to much please help. BTW they put a catheter on him for two days but then my cat got fed up and removed it they could bo longer keep him since he was showing high levels of stress and he wanted out of that place. BTW both cats spaid and neutered ever since they showed up on my property. The yowling breajs my heart is ge dying is he just stressed and wants out to go outside with his female buddy? I feed Zephyr kitty 1 can. 2.9 oz. Twice a day 12 hours apart. Veterinarian put him on a diet. Was free feeding him dry C / D But he developed chronic Constipation. Poor guy I do add good extra virgin olive oil to his soft food 1 teaspoon a day. Feeding time 6 : 30 am & 6 : 30 pm He has lost a couple pounds Was 15.5 Now 13 pounds The olive oil gives him a few more calories. Next month back to Veterinarian for check up

I NEED. ( Dan'ye made me emphasize that) to know where you are getting ground mouse! Where are you getting your protein? I have 2 cats. Trance has been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. She needs to eat frequently including at night. I started feeding her late because otherwise she'd throw up before morning -- mucus stomach stuff because she drank so much water. She still drinks plenty of water but does appear to have some issue with the urinary track. She urinates frequently. I have just had them through Homeoanimals detox program ( which I found out about from you). They recommend 5 weeks and then stopping. I do have her on Bestlife4pets homeopathic for the hyperthyroidism and Astro's oil products for protein help. Both cats have CKD. I don't know how to help her not eat so frequently though. Also, with hyperthyroidism iodine isn't good, and some products have kelp! Neither of my cats want to have fish oil! I don't know how to get them to eat that.

Yes my vet reccomends hills c/d. I can't afford it no more with multiple cats. And want to know what else is reccomended. And what treats I can give. I have multiple cats. One cat peed on my blanket until I started hills c/d but I can't afford it. The price keeps going up
