My dog king charles had had crystals for months now as well as blood in her urine. we took her to the vet and they had us get an ultrasound and xray and told us we needed prescription diet. our dog is super picky with her food, so that didnt work, I need to call to see what her ph was, but they told us it wasnt a urinary infection. She had been taking apoquel for allergies for over a year, so we stopped giving it to her in case that was causing it, we just cant get any clear answers and instead get told we need to spend a ton of money at every vet visit

I’m so happy I found your channel! I’m an acupuncturist too and loved hearing you talk about si mao San! My pug has stones and I want to give him herbs but not confident with the dose. Any suggestions for a 30 pound pug? I’m going to make my own using dried herbs but would like to know what you think ❤ thank you!!!

Last fall, my little pom (11 years old female) had bladder stones (struvite crystals). 4 (8 mm). Her PH was 8. She had blockage, but luckily the blocking stone got pushed back and she was on special diet (can Prescription) for a month and a half. All crystals are desolved. After that she was put on Prescription kibbles, what I soaked in water to soften it, because she is unable eat that size of dry kibbles (and I hate dry dog food). I don't like this brand and wanted to change it. For over a month now, I cook for her home made food. Following most of the ingredients from your recipes, taking into consideration the low oxalate content foods. I need to get your book for a complete list. Should I be strict with the low CaOx diet if she is prone to struvite crystals? I'm thinking here like liver and spinach, etc. I know, the grains and the carbs are a no no. Are human PH strips accurate for dogs too? I have them at home. Does dogs who develop struvite crystals also prone to develop CalOx crystals too? Thank you for your time.

Finally, a vet that mentions avoiding Spinach (I also personally agree with those that say to also avoid Sweet Potatoes and some other foods). I think so much of Dr. Karen Becker but don't understand why she has spinach in the dog food she formulated. I kept having problems with my dog and that is the only dog food she has been on since I got her. I finally had to stop feeding her that. With all of the safe veggies for dogs I don't understand why she couldn't use one of them instead. I switched to homemade. After I started homemade on my last dog that had struvites she didn't have them again for the next 12 years. She passed away a year ago at 14 1/2 years old. Had her since she was 11 weeks old. I really miss her!! 😥🐶💖

Hi :-) Would you please share your recipe for your home cooked food, that prevented bladder stones for your dog .... Thank you in advance :-) :-)

@@VICTORYShihTzu Hi back 😊 I don't mind sharing but knowing each dog is different that sometimes what works for one might not work for the other. Kinda like the way it is with people. So, just because it worked for my dog doesn't mean it will for yours. Also, make sure you get regular UA as sometimes a dog won't show symptoms until they get so bad they might require surgery. I also check Bun and Crea as well as other blood work on yearly exams and in between if there is any health issues. But I will tell you some of what I used but you will need to go by your dog's weight and research on amounts and any other foods you want to add. I cooked PLAIN nothing on it, no oils, no salt, nothing organic chicken. REMOVING all bones and skin!! I know some rather do raw but when it comes to chicken I always cook them but NO bones and no skin. Organic is expensive so I understand if you can't afford that but after learning about arsenic, and other bad stuff is in chickens I stopped using them and changed to organic whole chickens since it's cheaper to buy the whole ones and then you can measure what you need and if not using all within 3 days freeze the rest! I also cut up a few non gmo frozen cranberries that has nothing else in that, either. The dog I have now will not eat cranberries so I found a good cranberry supplement to use for her that has nothing else in it at cranimals. They have more than one but I get the one that has only cranberries in it. To balance the vitamins I used/use Dr. Goodpet's Maximum Protection. It is cheaper to buy the big bottle size. I use/used Dr. Mercola's probiotics, Krill Oil, and other products for pets he has depending on the age of my dog as she got older. That gives you an idea of the diet I use. I won't say what veges I use as there are so many that are debatable I might not know them all. You can google the ones they say to not use. I already named one in my OP Spinach that I definitely won't use as well as Sweet Potatoes that are not good for dogs with stones but there are others. Sorry, this turned out so long lol Good luck with your fur baby 🐶😊

@@JustMe-ec2ph Thank you so much. My Sweetheart goes in for check up at the vet every 3 months. Her basic problem is that She does not like water, She will only drink one brand of bottle water and not enough to ... well to pee enough, she is a Princess. I don't mind your long answer, it is great :-) So you serve the cranberries raw or cooked? - ny girl doesn't mind eating cranberries :-)

@@VICTORYShihTzu Awww what a great dog parent you are taking your fur baby in for frequent checks. Just be mindful of when and what vaccinations to give. I had a dog that went into kidney failure after a vaccination so while I am not against vaccinations!! I do think some vets over vaccinate them. I do titer testing now to help me know if they need more vaccinations and I only give the core vaccinations when titer testing shows she needs another one. The frozen cranberries thaw out fast so I just gave them to her that way and I am not sure but would think it's more beneficial if they are not cooked. I wish the dog I have now would eat cranberries like my last dog did. I mix them with her food and she will pick out every little tiny piece every time LOL Well, I see we have a similar problem as I have been going through every thing I can think of to get my dog to drink water! This is the only dog I have had that doesn't want any water at all. If I add water to her food she will drink that but then throw up. So I just ordered some Organic Collagen Powder for Cats & Dogs to mix with water to see if she will drink that. Luckily I have a small dog otherwise I couldn't afford homemade and all the rest I give her. As you know drinking water is so necessary to help keep them from getting crystals and stones so I am working hard on that!

Crystals 2 years ago equaled "Tinckle Tonic" and constant home PH stick testing. It was fine at home but an 8 in the office! Had to go up every week for retest! Got expensive. I said STOP! Bloodwork moving forward was perfectly fine. Going to Clayton Tuesday to see about it. Using cranberries. Worries but hopeful this can be resolved. Heard how certain foods need to be avoided. Raw fed for 5 years now.

Late to the party but My vet is not just saying to go on the prescription diet but to be neutered. Also, they are saying his prostate is enlarged. I am not convinced
@andytrung2720
@andytrung2720 2 года назад
my vet all said the same thing too. A little late for me since that's all been removed but I said no to the prescription diet. Think you're def on the right track. I would've done a bit more research before making the neuter call. My dog was already in the ER due to his bladder stones blocking his urine so I just decided to get him neutered too

Dr Morgan - question, vet found a struvite stone in my shih tzu's urethra, they pushed it back to the bladder so it can be dissolved with proper diet and methioninine. I've been cooking for my dog for almost 9 years, he's 11 now. I have been giving him sweet potatoe most of the time. he loves it. is the sweet potatoe bad for dogs to develop stones? I have seen some comments in here about spinach and sweet potatoe and when I turn to the bladder stone section in your ying yang book, there's not much info on which foods to avoid, etc. thank you.
@TL-ch1xd
@TL-ch1xd 3 месяца назад
Yes sweet potatoes should be avoided. As I understand it, you should try to decrease carbohydrates as much as possible. I hope your furry friend is well and free from struvites now.

Thank you. That’s exactly what my vet did. I don’t trust prescription diets. My husky Shepard is shedding more since starting SO rx diet. Looking for a way to get her ph where it should be using a healthy diet.

I can't find fresh cranberry anywhere. I wish I bought plenty around the holidays, but I didn't. Now they have only dry and sugary. I have cranberry powder from Only Natural Pets (online), but it's around 4-5 years old. Kept in freezer all this time, do you think it's still good? If not, do you think that it's good supplement until fresh cranberry comes around?

My 10 yr old Havanese has a small oxalate stone. He’s now on Royal Canin Urinary S/O, and according to the Vets, that is the only thing he can eat. Is this ridiculous? The ingredients are crap! He hast to get surgery in a few weeks, and I wasn’t offered any other options. They are going to cut into his bladder, and I’m really beside myself. I want to get him off this diet, but with all of the info out there ,it is very hard to know what to do. These Vets do not know about Nutrition beyond a prescription kibble, but otherwise, they are very experienced vets, and have never steered me wrong. Thoughts?

This was my vets recommendation also. I think prescription food is crap so am looking for a home made meal plan for struvite crystals.
