Nappy hair is not bad hair. Your texture is unique, be patient with your own grade. Every single person has a unique texture and there is a way for you to grow your hair don’t discount what she’s saying because your texture doesn’t mirror hers. Btw, I’m a black woman and my hair is thick, healthy and down my back, so I know what I’m speaking about ❤

Wow this is one of the BEST COMMENT!!! II tell women this all the time it takes time to learn what your hair likes and don't like. It's definitely trial and error and it's definitely NOT BAD HAIR!! I love my natural shrinking hair!!!❤❤❤❤

Thank you!! My best friend since high school has a much tighter texture and did a big chop. We have cared for and nurtured her hair with the same techniques even though the texture is the same. She doesn’t use heat much as well. People have to see THEIR journey through

It's sad that in this day, and age people would ask you "what are you mixed with" like it's impossible for black folks to grow their own hair. As a black woman, my hair is at my waist and I've learned to be more patient, and use the old techniques that our ancestors used. My hair loves oil, and grease. Keep going, and your hair is beautiful.👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾❤️❤️❤️❤️

Thank you for this. I find the statement "You have that good hair" as offesnsive too. I do not have wash and go hair, and had to figure my hair out because my mother did not know better. Nonetheless, "good hair" is any hair that is heathly, period. Not the type. I have 3C, some 4a hair. I have seen women with 4c hair with it down to their waist, and full. Why, they take carw of their hair. Some of us it will take longer then others. So thank you for your videos, glad I found your channel🥰

I silk press once a month and deep condition and get my trims regularly and it’s bra strap length. The key is less heat or you can stretch your hair with blow dried styles. I think the over use or improper use of heat is the issue. I am going to start going longer stretches without heat and see what the difference will be. Your hair is gorgeous btw ❤
@ebonyswope
@ebonyswope 8 месяцев назад
Yes most people that use heat have no meter on when to stop because they desire those certain results. I got braids once and used my blow dryer on the cool shot setting. It's all about being educated on the use of heat for sure. I personally have no desire to have straight hair in any month when it's warm. & thank you!!

People are weird!: why was people upset by what you said?? It’s very offensive to be asked “what are you mixed with” solely based on your LONG hair. I’ve been asked this nonsense my whole life (when I was younger I didn’t get it, I was so confused) because of my hair -and my response always was “look at my face”. That’s very offensive to assume that black women can NOT have long natural hair.

Taking care of your hair (deep conditioning, weekly washes, scalp oiling (you dont need to oil you scalp to grow hair I just started doing this and my hair been bra length) but weekly or by weekly hair care will GROW YOUR HAIR! Also I just went vegan so diet is cool but really just washing it, deep conditioning, sealing with oil and protecting it at night WILL GROW YOUR HAIR!! IT DID IT FOR ME! God bless I hope this helps

SAME! I used to flat iron my hair like brushing my teeth! I like stretching by tension drying and then twisting it. I avoid a flatiron until its time to trim (every 4 months). Big difference when you’re brave enough to let go of the silk press and “transition” from it. You’ve done a great job 👍🏼

@Shrimp459
@Shrimp459 8 месяцев назад
As I transitioned I kept wearing my hair straight because that's the way I was use to wearing it but then one day I decided I wanted to start wearing my natural curls which was a process because my hair was use to being straight. I also had to learn to take care of my natural hair to start saving money from going to my stylist lol, well I'm here to tell you I looove my curly hair and I don't wear my hair straight at all anymore and I don't put heat to it not even to trim my ends. My stylist trims it when it's wet even though she said she can't see what she really needs to trim I still don't want heat on my hair so she trims little at a time

Thank you for this. You just don't know how many black women can relate to your hair journey. I used to have long thick hair with relaxers which I did every 3 months because of my texture... medication and hormones has really taken a toll on my hair but crochet styles have been working for me. May GOD bless and keep you
@ebonyswope
@ebonyswope 8 месяцев назад
Thank you for that!! If you are getting a lot of crochet styles, please make sure you’re using some kind of growth or scalp stimulating oil because the braids that are put down for the foundation are usually done pretty tight and that kinda tension on your hair long term can be troublesome
@adaada62693
@adaada62693 8 месяцев назад
@@ebonyswope I agree totally about keeping the foundation braids for crochet style moisturized. It took me a while to find my current stylist because some stylist do braid to tightly which puts too much tension on the hair especially with soft textures. I also use supplement for the immune system, and for hair, skin and nails. Plus drinking plenty of water! Be blessed!

You’re like me. I’ve been completely natural since February 2002. I went on a hair health-and-growth journey in July of 2016. It wasn’t until then that I truly understood what my hair needed to really retain length. I’ve been doing my own hair since first grade and began pressing it myself since I was ten. Once I became an adult I went to salons intermittently and paid close attention and asked questions. Over the years I taught myself to use marcel curling irons and marcel flat irons, and trim, feather and cut layers in my hair. I learned how to give myself pixie and bob cuts and color, relax, and texturize my hair. But it wasn’t until I started watching RU-vid at the start of my journey that I really learned how to properly care for my hair. Thankfully, I’ve always known better than to wear tight hairstyles and never caused my hair any real damage. But now I know what to do and what not to do for it to grow longer and longer and longer . . .

Hi Ebony! Thank you for sharing story. I’ve always had hair past my shoulders a little past my bra strap. Growing up, I was always getting press & curls. As an adult, the same thing every two weeks. Not realizing how damaging it was. I never had a perm in my life until I got a pixie hair cut in 2021. Ahhh such a bad idea. Anyway, I’ve been growing my hair out since the end of 2022. It’s been fun seeing my natural hair texture and hair has grown like weeds. I barely put heat on it and when I don’t feel like doing it, I’ll throw on a wig or put some clip ins for the day. I find showing my hair love, my hair will love me back. You are so right, that deep conditioning is the best. Since I have low perosity hair, I cannot I put a lot of products in my hair. The build up would be terrible. lol I also find light oils work great as well. But that heat is terrible! I flat ironed my hair a total of 2x last year and my short pixie cut has grown down to my collar bone within a year. Keep sharing your journey. Us Queens can always learn so much more about taking care of the health of our crowns. Beautiful hair 😊

I wish I could send you a pic or some. My story is like yours. Always had relaxed shoulder length hair. After going natural NY hair grew like wildflowers. My natural hair is your length and looks very similar to your curl pattern. When I get a blow out it's just an inch or two from my butt. It blows people's mind. I was sick in the hospital over 2 months and at home for a year and a half. I wasn't doing anything to my hair but I made sure I sprayed oil sheen and kept it in a ponytail and then tied a scarf. I honestly can't believe how long it is. I just wish I went natural sooner. But I didn't realize what I had.

Your hair is absolutely beautiful, and I agree on the fact that our type of hair somehow makes people think we are mixed. I cannot stress this enough that not every Black woman in America is African descent or is a descendant of Africa. We are Aboriginal - American Indian and so our hair texture is different from BW from other parts of the black diaspora. We have kinky, coily, wavy curly hair, fine , thick , stringy hair. Growing up, I had to deal with people from the black community, especially black males, who would ask me if I was mixed because of my hair and even skin. I absolutely love my american indian roots and the story our hair tells because it's very unique.❤ In 2024 Im a need more American Indian girls to call themselves the proper names and get into that hair journey because when taken care of our hair gives Pocahontas ❤

You need to get blood work done to see if your deficient in anything like Vit D or iron. Also taking a good collagen hair, nail and skin supplement can help support growth. Try incorporating Ayurveda herbs as it helps in hair growth like henna, amla, Aloe Vera, funegreek just to name a few they are all powerhouse herbs to help with growth. You already have a good regimen but also you'll need protein treatments and keep up with trimming your ends but make sure you keep ends moisturized, oil isn't a moisturizer its a sealant

I think it’s wonderful that black billionaires are making haircare products that are healthy and for all hair types. I grew up during a time when it was a struggle to find shampoo and conditioner that would not strip and damage my hair. I remember walking down the haircare aisle and shopping for products in the very tiny ethic corner. There was very little to choose from and most of the products were toxic and damaging. I find it sad that people of color struggle to support each other, especially women of color. We should celebrate Beyoncé, Rihanna and all other business women creating healthy products and promoting the beauty of women of color and women in general.

The way u turn natural is exactly how I turned natural! My friend was a hairstylist and her and all her sister’s turn natural. Therefore, I went to her for a perm and that’s when she told me the same thing u told me about my hair. That’s when I started my transition to natural in 2011. I cut the rest of my ends in 2014 and been fully natural since. It was RU-vid university that helped me with my transition and natural hair. This was before the natural hair movement was big. It was small then and just starting.

I don't understand why people don't get, that people's hair growth is about 90% GENETIC! My sis and I have different fathers. Her Dad has hair that's lil less kinky, grow faster than my father. Her hair grows WAY faster than mine, and I get mine professionally done regularly..she doesn't and wear wigs and weaves almost daily. Smh, there's no way my hair will EVER be bra length. GENETICS

I agree. I've done the work of what many RU-vidrs say/I've taken care of my hair yet 5yrs after big chopping my hair to one inch, it's only ear length! I've gotten to a point where I've given up and have accepted my terminal length is ear length 😢😢

We have the same texture. Yes the "are you mixed" comments are very weird lol. Though I am mixed, my hair is healthy because I don't bother it. There was one point and time when my hair actually was unhealthy, and I still got the back-handed "praise." The obsession is strange.

Ebonyyyyyy. That sunset look on your eyelids is killer. I love it. So beautiful. The burnt orange with the touch of gold/yellow is killing us softly. Love it girl. And to be honest you do have a special grade of hair. I've seen it before. Your hair is thick, strong, great curls, shiny and grows easily. Go look at the women of Chad, Africa. That is not a joke or and insult. And I went to school with girls with your hair type. Hair so manageable that it doesn't need relaxing. Beautiful hair. Beautiful Ebony. Now what did you say you were mixed with? JK. 😂

Special grade of hair 🤔?
@cls393
@cls393 8 месяцев назад
@@MT-yx5cu Now you know I have words. All textures of black hair is beautiful and unique with different levels of porosity and rates of growth. When I use the word special, I mean specific, because here are some traits of hair: thick, thin, shiny, dry, dull, fragile, strong. And when we get into curl patterns that's an entire follicle conversion because curl pattern is determined by follicle shape, which is hereditary, but I am sure that you already knew that. Hair follicle shape could probably be mapped across Africa, (you know, where we came from) and I am sure that would tell us more about our heritage and origin story. And let's not talk about nutrition. When Ebony said that her hair looked its best after she had her baby, I was thinking prenatal vitamins. But what do I know. So "special hair" in this instance is a combination of thick hair with a Manageable curl pattern, that does not break easily, is very well moisturized and grows at a steady rate. Sorry that my use of the word special was/is triggering. I'm only referring to the combination of factors that keep her hair long, along with how she cares for it. On some science shit her hair may retain more keratin which may lend to strand strength. Yes all hair grows but I can attest that not all hair grows at the same exact rate. So some of these growth factors are external and some of these factors are inherited. Black hair is beautiful in its wide and wild assortment. I wouldn't have anything else except my own black hair. It's teaching me life lessons. Lol. Unfortunately our hair isn't studied as closely as it could be, or we wouldn't have bad products to "fix" our broken hair like a perm or a texturizer. That's what the industry wants us to think. But again, what do I know. Sincerely, Random Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS).

I'm on this natural hair journey after using a perm for 45 years. I've been wearing a protective style for 7 months. The last set of Braids was too tight. Soooooooo, I attempted to wash, blow dry and flatiron my hair. Disaster 😮 My new growth is so thick. How can I comb through this thickness and not break off my hair?
@ebonyswope
@ebonyswope 8 месяцев назад
section is into 4 or 6 sections depending on how tangled it is. wet it fully like under the shower, apply a conditioner that has good slip (Aussie moist is a cheap and good way to go) . Use whatever you choose to detangle and work from the bottom up. don't rush it. take a break if you need to to rest your arms but pleaseeee don't rip that hair from your scalp

Thank you so much!! Yes constantly having to touch your hair in between wash days mean you have some more work to do so that it can last. This is why I suggest my natural hair playlist on tiktok. It has a lot of hairstyles that last til wash day and also ones that don't and how to change it from there. I wash once a week
