I loved this! I just started my hair journey with a big chop like two weeks ago and I didn’t realize how much I saw my hair as part of my identity. I feel so different and I’m starting to get down on myself so your words really helped 🙂
This lady makes soooooo much sense. She taught me clove water, leave-in, creme, oil ("Leave-in alone? No, baby!“ 😂), it's a process and that's ok, love myself without hair, don't need validation from others, I'll be so proud that I grew my hair myself...the list goes on. I gym and sweat hard every other day and I rinse out daily but she seriously has tips that WORK. Bless you, Shell.
I’m so happy that you made this video. I’m going through a transition in life right now and feel like I needed to remove things/ppl that no longer serve me. In doing so I did a big chop two weeks ago and it has been a roller coaster of emotions. I feel free but also naked. It’s so revealing how we mask ourselves at times. This journey is forcing me to face myself on a deeper level. And is granting me a new perspective in life. Thank you for the video
I’m currently almost over my first year after the big chop. In the past I was convinced that I only look good with my hair straight and light, now I see that natural is way better. Can’t wait for it to reach the shoulder length! Thank you for the video, it’s very aesthetically pleasing to see how long and full your hair is, keeps me patient🥰
I did three different types of chops and the best was when I went to one inch as opposed to transitioning. It was almost spiritual and I learned my hair at every stage.
I’ve followed for some time now and I finally did the big chop today. I cried at first but… my hair was so damaged of relaxer. . I couldn’t style it. I saw so many videos and I did it… now I just have to get used to it. I will see your tips I love. Your page 💋💜
I honestly love you for making this video because I just did a big chop a few hours ago and I broke down at 3:13 because I straighten my hair in December 2022 and anytime I brushed it PIN straight hair was all I saw and I got tired of looking at it. From the time I washed my straightened hair and realized my hair was damaged I have been fighting the urge to chop off the dead ends because my mother prefers length over health and doesn't want me to cut my hair (she doesn't know I cut it for now) I'm only 14 yrs old and as I grew up I always had waist length hair so this new me is so much to take in, but I will enjoy my journey
I can relate. Been relaxing since 15. Frustrated on my natural hair journey. Hair stays thirsty ALL the time. Always look dry/dull/crunchy, etc. All that. But I love the positive vibes from you, and it's because of YOU I am going to learn my hair better. I started doing some of your deep conditioning routines already. (My hair is so dry I drenched it in oil by accident 😬😩 LOC method) but believe it or not, 3 days later, it was very thirsty again). Wow. But I'm going to do the hair porosity test again because I was confused with the last test. And from there, I will follow you to learn how to pick my hair products. You're truly a 💎 to us frustrated natural hair woman and a special gift. And your hair is AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL. So, I will trust the process. Thank you very much. ❤🙏🔥. I will definitely keep doing either the LOC method or the LCO.
I had the same exact hair journey. My hair was naturally curly and my mom relaxed my hair. I always permed my hair up until almost two years ago. My hair was thin and shedding a lot. So I cut all my hair off like Brittany spears.I been blessed with beautiful thick curly hair now and healthy! Watching your RU-vid channel helps me maintain healthy hair ❤
I went natural in 2017. I was sick of the chemicals. From there I went with the braids. From there I went to the wigs. Sick of it all. 😩 Now I’m loc’d up and loving it.😁 Thank you for the tips and encouragement. Natural is the way to go!😉
I have been natural for 22 years. I used to get relaxors and use chemicals as well. Back then there were very little products for natural hair…I used long aid gel and water pretty much. Boy have things changed. My hair has changed as well. Your videos are definitely a go to for me. I will never go back to anything but natural…thank you for sharing your journey!
I needed to hear this! I stopped permanent since 2018. My hair was never permanent haha because I had to re slather crap on every month. So it was a temporary solution 😆. Anywho I would wear braids hated it. Worse going to people who would braid my hair so tight. I spent a fortune on my hair to always be so unhappy with what I was paying. My hair grew but it was unhealthy so I cut it again. Again I went through the weaves, crochet, and wigs and was not happy. I wanted my length back. What I was spending in hair and stylist my home could be paid for. So I went with the twist. It's still short but it's healthy and growing. I am not happy with shorter hair. I have good days and bad days. More good days. Your hair is beautiful and I can tell that you put in work to get your hair gorgeous. I just took out my twists and my curls are Poppin but shorter for now😢 Thank you for the much needed encouragement. I use to judge people with short hair styles and now I'm rocking it. Like Samson my attitude, self love, and hair is finally changing for the best
A tremendous thank you for this video. I’ve lived through every phase of hair that exists. Early gray starting at 16 (my father’s side of the family). High school, a died red TWA. College (just finding time when I was not studying to even care about the journey). 20’s-40’s dye and relaxer, ⚠️ ‼️⛔️☢️. Health concerns not related to hair, I got off of the “bottle” in 2009. Big chop 2017, held on for 6 months. July 2023, the next and last big chop. Only an inch and a half of relaxer remains. The early gray is now snow white and loving it. You are so correct, each of us is different and it is up to us to make the choice a personal choice.
I love the way you are encouraging us!! Preach! Your hair is amazing! I so needed to hear this. I transitioned two years ago and my hair is mid back length. I can’t wait for year 5. My husband is my biggest supporter too! I can’t wait to watch more of your videos!
That hair is giving life, it really fits you.. Very long, im on my natural long hair journey.. I want it to the length it suppose to be, however of course down my back.. I been natural for about 12-13 years and i have had my fun of cutting it and learning it. Now it time to just let it flourish.. Im so excited its been growing like carzy, Im hitting that inch every month.. Thought I'll share, im sure youll be glad and proud to hear about my hair journey.
I just big chopped 2 months ago because my hair got destroyed from following the No Oils & Butters method (fyi: I had no idea it was a trend. I thought it was a factual method because the “professionals” said it was. 😅). Anyway, I had to big chop and everything you said is true! I’m learning to love myself with very short hair. I’m also learning how to care for it but it’s kind of fun! Lastly, when I have down days, I just remind myself that I’m blessed to have hair. I’m thankful that it’s not short due to illness or treatment and that it’s growing as I write this! So thank you for the reminder. Stay blessed Sis! 💖🙏🏽
@@SimplyShell417 Oh I did as soon as I watched your first video! I’ve been binge watching your channel because I really like your videos and I can tell you’re very honest. Plus I like your approach to your hair. 💖🤗
Watched your video the other day and finally decided to cut it last night. It’s so small I really hope it grows back. I haven’t found a way to define my curls yet but I’m trusting the process
I want to thank you for this video. I have been putting dye and relaxing my hair for years. I just went 54 last month and I am ready to let my greys come through. Plus I notice using dye now it makes my scalp very itchy. Plus my hair is short...so I am going to stop putting dye in my hair and relaxer and let my hair grow naturally and use the rosemary and clove solution daily.
I'm high porosity and coconut oil takes to my hair well. My hair likes thick moisturizers. Thank you for your encouragement your hair looks healthy and strong.
Lady Bug!!! 👏 👏 You are schooling and coming through with the vids babyyyyyy!!! The encouragement and thought behind the video is outstanding. I did my 2nd big chop last year. ❤Love you bunches!! Keep going sweetheart!!!❤ 🤗
Thanks so much for sharing the video Shell !! I'm also a low porosity girl, 3b curly hair. My hair is the Sahara desert 🏝️ 😂🤣😂, you're correct low porosity is hard to tame!! I'm just dealing with crazy shrinkage! at the moment. I love all of your advice and great self love words. Must say God bless your Crown 👑. Take care 🙏🏾🥰🌺
Great video Michelle!! I can so relate to the natural hair journey! I have been getting relaxers since the age 16. Before that, it was the basic press and curl! I have never colored my hair until my current age -- so, I don’t have any regrets about coloring my hair. I am not going to bypass the coloring for awhile and just let the grays do what they wanna do! It is what it is! I am grateful to be alive - so whoever doesn’t like this silver 🦊- oh well! LMAO!!! I swear - I have three different colors in my hair: light brown, brown and a sprinkle of grays throughout! LOL!! ISH is comical, actually!! I am now finally all natural- I did not big chop, but transitioned back in 2019. I just stopped relaxing my in June 2019 and thank GOD I finally left the creamy crack alone! It is funny how you have one head - but different curl patterns in different sections of your head is funny as all get out!! I can say the back is tighter curl pattern to the top and sides being looser. I know now (I am at shoulder length or longer) now and love it! I want my hair to grow mid-back length cause waist and tailbone just seems like too much to me. Thank you for the information - really appreciate the honesty and transparency of your journey! I have had a teeny weeny Afro as a high school senior - so me having short or medium length hair is not a thing for me! I could care less what other people think - it is what it is!! God is Good!! #LOVEANDLIGHT #BLESSEDNOTSTRESSED #DREAMSDOCOMETRUE #ASKBELIEVEANDRECEIVE
You talking to me dear ... thank you honey I really appreciate this. This all I need thank you so much. God Bless you . I had my hair cut .. a very very big chop at that . And it’s has been weighing me down . Have been emotional since last Saturday. But watching your video has really inspired me and have courage and gained self confidence.
Had my locs for 16 year's and Poppa (G)od told me last year to cut them. 😁 What a freaking relief 😮💨 I only realize my hair was heavy went it was wet. My neck was like well it's about fuckn time 😂 my confidence grew after the chop 🤷🏽
I have been transitioning for 7 months and it is a journey and lesrning state. I look at my son's hair and mine to see what is best for it. Dealing with two different textures is real. Also humidity dont play lol. Thank you for sharing❤
I love my hair now after years of abuse.. like Alopecia is real but so is research and putting in work to achieve results.. I’m all DIY and sometimes deep conditioning packs.. 4C hair type but aloe Vera is the truth..
Update: So i did the porosity test again. Hair stayed on top of water. So, I am low porosity based on that. I looked up which oils i should use. I learned light weight oils such as Argan (which is a fantastic choice) as well as the other light weight oils. I purchased a silk sleep cap. Im seeing progress. Again, I love the knowledge you are giving us. AND, I am so happy your mom is on your channel defending your knowledge. As she should. Lol.
I do not have her hair type but all of her advice is on point. I grew up getting relaxers too, and I am now natural and love it and one thing she said she does that I did was the goat ALOE VERA. And stop putting chemicals in my hair. Great video!
I just did my big chop last month. I have watched so many RU-vid videos of different women on their natural hair journey and their were so many techniques, products and routines that I began to feel confused and overwhelmed. After watching your video I feel so much better about the choice I made to chop my hair and I understand now that this is a personal journey. Thank You for giving me the confidence and encouragement I needed to embrace my natural hair journey.🙏🏽🫶🏽
How time fly by Shell boo beautiful, i subscribed to your channel once i saw and tried one of your hair video that now i have so much hair i don’t know what to do with myself. your my saving Grace 💗🌼💗🌼💗🌼💗🌼
Great informative video Chelle! I went natural about 6 years ago and I love it. But I hate doing my hair so I keep my hair in Spring twists/mini twist. I wish I could be consistent with doing all the extra for my hair and I wont lie ya girl gets lazy! Lol but I love the tips that you give because I am still learning. And you have such beautiful hair!!😍👍🏽....I enjoyed the video❤❤❤
Please please help me my hair use to be down to my back and I’m a male ‘I cut it off but now ur grew back but you always have the advice when ur comes to hair care and you always keep it real just your wisdom and knowledge you have God always send someone positive I’m your life for a reason and I just look forward to watching you bio’ because up lifts me so I truly just want to say thank for bringing suck Jesus Christ sent words from a television and as always keep on shining God bless you and your beautiful family 😊
I have 3 different texture in my hair I been natural since 2018 just recently cut it again to maybe 6-7 inches but it was still natural when I cut it again it’s just some about low cut. I be so tired of long hair I mainly cut all my straight hair off from all that heat I was putting in my hair. So now I just want to grow it out curly without using heat
I just want to say about porosity it's super important because right now in my city it has been hot and raining for the past week and I don't live in the south and I was wondering why when I braided my hair to heatless stretch my it and it took me a minute to realize that it was because of all the humidity. My hair is eat it up the moist air I guess I could say so it won't stretch out right no matter how much I wanted it to. But I'm saying this to say that if I wouldn't have known my porosity it (medium btw) I probably would have had a fit because I didn't know what to do with my hair
Girl i thank u cause i remember in 2021 I shaved off all my hair cause my hair felt uneven and I felt pretty happy with the decision with shaving all my hair off and i haven't had a perm in 4 years and i have 4c hair and it can grow back quick my hair Can break off quick with a lot heat damage and i've had every hair problem know to every hair problem.....
I'm a new follower. Just tune into your 😮channel. I've big chopped 10 years and I dil struggle maintaining length. I'm finally learning. Thanks for all your tips. Keep sharing all this info and encouragement. God bless you.
@@SimplyShell417 in the video you mentioned going to make a video more in depth about curls or something! But i would also appreciate if you would show us what products you use for LOC /LCO
Just did a bigchop CHOP for the first time ever yesterday 😢. I'm still sad but my hair was damaged, split ends, and came out so bad in the back , it was thin and some of my edges came out..
So quick question I had shaved my hair off 2022 on January it’s about to be one year next month December with my hair growth my hair isn’t even to my shoulders yet everytime it grows it looks like I have split ends at the end I end up cutting the ends am I wrong for cutting them because it’s actually growing since I haven’t burnt it it’s new hair do I just leave it alone and let it grow
My problem is, I NEVERRRR deep condition, I really have to find time for this, I’m sure my hair is screaming for it, at this point though I just don’t know what it needs! 😭😭
I’m sorry for asking but I’m one video you’ve said to deep condition every week but in this video you said twice a month so should I do twice a month or every week ? (I have low porosity as well and I love your videos).❤
I ended up cutting all of my hair which made me bald. However my hair is growing back slowly. Do I still need to lco loc my hair when it’s this short? Thank you for this video, I learned a lot.
I did the big chop a month ago because my hair looks fuller when it’s shorter. I’m sortoff at a cross roads about whether I should leave it short or let it grow out again. Any ideas Shelley?
Question: can i still dye my hair without bleach? I want a tint of red to my hair and im currently on my natural hair journey. (Btw your hair is so beautiful, thank you for the tips) ❤❤
@154angel154 no doubt! But I wouldn't want a dark-skinned girl giving me a tutorial on how to achieve a tan either. The Lord has already blessed you boo
How on earth would Shell know what texture hair you have, when you’re trolling on her channel with NO PICTURE 🤷🏼♀️???? It’s her hair on her head and she can do whatever she wants! It’s not your hair, nor is it her hair growing out of your head!
You should find someone with your hair texture that you can relate to. She literally telling HER story on HER channel. I’m sure when she had permed hair she would have never guessed how much it would flourish.
go FIND someone similar to YOU and stop leaving hate where you can’t appreciate. quick to say something nasty but won’t go find what’s for you. how does that work boo? im really over women who aren’t blessed with manners speaking.
