Great job mate, love to see something done properly. Quick amusing story this has reminded me of from years ago. My long time friend told me of his brother hanging a gate. He said 'he dug the hole with the JCB, fitted the post with the JCB, hung the gate with the JCB. In fact I don't think he got off the seat' LOL Ok not quite true as such but still makes me grin to this day.
MalcOfLincoln I wish I could have done it in that relaxing way, it's tiring digging them holes. I think I may be looking out for a tractor borer when the tractor done, had another expense on that went to get the new tyre fitted and my rim has rusted another £100 but hopefully apart from the oils I think the expense is nearly finished. As you know these projects are costly😕 thanks for watching🙂
But once the tractor is finished, you should have little expense for many years. A friend has recently fitted a metal fence around his large garden. He used a small post hole digger with a petrol engine on top. Soon did the job. Might? pay you to look into it, as it's much quicker than digging by hand. Larger posts just dig a few holes close together.
MalcOfLincoln I have a petrol post borer, I actually used it on the post and rail at this job, but the problem is if there's stones roots old rumble in the ground it's pretty useless. If I'm lucky enough to to find clean ground it work a treat, I think attractor one would wort a lot better.👍
MalcOfLincoln It usually does the first 6 inches to a foot then comes the stone or roots, at least it's a two man one so it doesn't reach your back when it hits some thing. With a tractor one the weight of the tractor would help no end, but like you said it would need access. 👍
Water sits on top of postcrete and rots the post off at that level. They last twice as long if you tamp up a mix of soil and rubble that water can drain through. Softwood posts are crap enough to start off with.
