@@Xarmutinha I think its because the language is not as "useful" as those three languages in europe. Portugal is a small country and not that relevant if compared to France, Italy and Spain. Not to mention only brazil speaks it in latin world. Mexico and some others are also next to US so spanish gets more attention in movies and tv shows around the world. I saw people in general think portuguese is a beautiful language but would not take the effort to learn the language for a few reasons. They prefer spanish, french, chinese or whatever.

If you’re speaking about in the United States then it’s because Spanish and French influenced the US, and it’s one of the main languages that the schools let us learn. And Italian, well I wouldn’t say it’s big here in America but maybe in New York but Italian is still pretty popular just not like Spanish and French.

Se vc quer ver um filme brasileiro diferente e menos violento eu recomendo "O Homem Que Copiava". É o meu filme brasileiro favorito, e se passa em Porto Alegre, no sul do Brasil. A maioria das pessoas pensam em Rio de Janeiro e São Paulo quando se fala em Brasil, imagino que é interessante pra quem é estrangeiro ver essa parte do Brasil menos conhecida. Vc vai notar que até a forma de eles falarem é diferente nesse filme. Os atores do filme são do Rio de Janeiro e São Paulo, mas eles tentaram imitar o jeito típico de falar da região

E eles mostram os pequenos detalhes da vida dele de uma forma muito interessante. Loved your presentation! I have been living in Brazil for 20 months now. I spent my first 15 months in Curitiba, and now am in Apucarana. I am American, 3rd generation from a Spanish (Spain) Speaking family. I however am my Abuela’s only grandchild who does not speak Spanish. Phrases, words but in no manner fluent. I was with a professora at Tuiuti University every day 2 hours each day for 15 months and learned a lot , but still struggle to understand Brazilian’s! Each day I try to put in 2 to 3 hours in lessons. Anyway , that’s my bloviated story 🤣 I came to Brazil to meet my Ex- wife family and get dental care, now I have a permanent residency card and I bought a house !! I'm a brazilian and the same applies to me when it comes to arranging spanish and portuguese in my head. That's why I have kind of ditched Spanish for the past years, I would always get confused when speaking (or trying to) Spanish because my head didn't seem to be able to make the switch between the languages lol

omg i started "backwards learning" as a way to motivate myself cuz it gets me to appreciate languages i speak and gets me to see certain nuances that i didn't notice as a native, while also practicing my target language, it's really fun I'm glad I'm not the only one that does this lol

Se eu puder recomendar alguns artistas da mesma época e igualmente talentosos: Os Mutantes, Rita Lee, Pepeu Gomes, Jorge Ben Jor, Clube da Esquina, Secos & Molhados. Tô completamente desiludido com a música brasileira. Maioria fala sobre glorificação do pecado no mínimo e obscenidade liberal no máximo. A baixaria é: ou sobre se embriagar, ou sobre libertinagem sexual, ou são mentiras, ou sobre amor por aquilo que é mundano e sujo. Quando não é ainda pior sobre glorificar diretamente deuses e ídolos pagãos.

Mas não faz sentido estar desiludido com a música brasileira, pois você estar se baseando somente na música atual e moderna (que é uma porcaria mesmo) e claro essas músicas são irrelevantes no parâmetro Nacional, quem é Anitta perto de Renato Russo... absolutamente NADA! E por aí vai. Temos excelentes cantores que vai do Raggae ao Sertanejo, mas claro, deturparam bastante todas elas.

A música pernambucana é muito rica e vasta, mas são muito poucos artistas que conseguem alcançar um reconhecimento nacional. Isso se dá principalmente pelo monopólio que a cultura do sudeste e sul do Brasil sempre tiveram nas grandes mídias, além do poder econômico concentrado nessas duas regiões do país. Venho aqui deixar minha recomendação de um filme que marcou minha infância se chama "Ó Paí ó" acho que é muito bom pra entender o sotaque nordestino mas principalmente o baiano e a cultura dos subúrbios da região, tem outras recomendações aqui do "auto da compadecida" que tem um sotaque nordestino ainda mais forte e muitos termos regionais então pode ser um desafio entender tudo, mas é muito rico culturalmente, a maioria dos filmes brasileiros se passam no Rio de janeiro e acaba parecendo que é tudo favela no Brasil inteiro mas isso representanta 8 porcento da população, então é uma boa dar uma filtrada, tem cidades muito lindas e organizadas como Brasília, Curitiba, Maringá, Belo Horizonte, Campinas, Florianópolis entre outras, Brasil é um país continental então tem praticamente diferentes países dentro do Brasil

Аquele álbum do Seu Jorge é impecável! Seu Jorge é aquele tipo de artista que você pode colocar qualquer música pra tocar que só vem música boa. Eu uso muito o backwards learning com a minha TL(coreano e russo) e o inglês, pela maior variedade de conteúdo disponível online. É um método muito bom e prático mas, ao meu ver, pouco difundido na comunidade das pessoas que aprendem outra língua.

Great video, Elysse. Thank you for sharing. You are really inspiring. Music has also been a strong component of my English language learning. I'm old school, from a time when there was no Internet, no CDs and none of the technological advances that we enjoy today. Nevertheless, I threw myself into learning the language using the resources available at the time: music (as mentioned), English courses on vinyl, talking to native English speakers whenever I met them in Brazil, books, having pen pals in other countries, etc. And yes, it can be done. Language learning is all about curiosity and not being afraid of the new. In the end, it's a very rewarding experience.

Using "a gente" is not that advanced -- most B1 level speakers can use "a gente". My Portuguese is still pretty bad and I use "a gente" all the time. A couple of months ago I was watching videos of this cute couple that do travel videos and they're using "a gente" and I'm like -- that's weird -- they're saying "people" all the time - what does that mean? -- then I looked it up and then I get it - "a gente" means us or we, yes more of an informal us or we. One of the things I'm doing is learning lots of idioms -- yeah that's one of the ways to sound more natural. Me though I still have a long way to go. Watching this video is motivating as her level of verbal fluency after 4 years is amazing!!

Your pronunciation is just amazing, seriously, it's the most impressive pronunciation i've ever seem so far. If you want to keep consuming content in Portuguese, I would recommend the poetry of Fernando Pessoa or the literature of Machado de Assis, it's just outstanding, must see it. I'm curious -- what you meant by your statement - I assume you mean most impressive pronunciation from a non-native speaker you've seen? As native speakers are the standard everyone is trying to reach. For four years -- I do have to say her speaking skills are pretty amazing! -- I'm at a little over a year into my Portuguese journey - almost a B1 level right now -- I can only hope to be that good in 3 more years. 🙂

Great tips! #SpeakingBrazilian is definitely a must! You are spot on about Professora Virginia, Another great channel to watch for English speakers wanting to learn Portuguese is #plainportuguese. Professora Bea is fluent in English and uses cute animations to illustrate grammar concepts.

I was going to say the same thing - Bea and Virginia -- are both awesome!! -- I love those two channels. Another RU-vid channel with really good content is "Easy Portuguese". Bea is great for learning grammar -- I never understood the difference between "O que" and "Que" until I watched one of her videos on that topic -- or the difference between "Gente and A gente". Fantastic channels!

If you speak Portuguese spanish will be very easy to learn , it's been 3 months of studying spanish and I already can understand 90% of the stuff I hear before it used to be 60 % . I've been dedicating one hour of my day everyday to learn.
