Another thing, if you are an experienced rider, but only on one stance, take advantage whenever you ever bring up friends that are new to the mountain! When you are in teaching mode, it's a good idea to practice switch while teaching. The pace is slow enough for you to practice and if you're falling, your "learning" friends won't feel left out or like they're slowing you down lol

I've been doing the daily switch lap for a while. What really unlocked switch-riding for me was practicing 180s go across the slope, turn slightly up hill, do a 180 when the board has little speed, turn and go across the slope again - repeat I was comfortable with switch after 1 hour doing this. Also shortly after, i landed every 180 regardless of landing "steepness". What a relief it was to get this out of the way - if you read this - and decide to try it out - hope it helps you as much as it did to me!

To learn switch, I actually changed the direction of my bindings for a whole season and just suffered being a beginner again. I reapplied the same techniques and drills I learned to ride normally but in the opposite direction. It sucked at first, but now I can ride whatever direction I feel like.

I always say I'm going to practice riding switch when I get to the mountain and then do it for like 5 seconds and switch back to normal stance. I don't want to commit to having a slow day lol, but it would really benefit me to learn switch. I used to skateboard and I made a mistake of learning how to do tricks in the grass / on a trampoline in a goofy stance. As I progressed and started rolling around on a board I realized my balance was best in a regular stance. I became forever stuck in a state of having the best balance as a regular rider but most comfortable throwing tricks around as a goofy rider. When I started snowboarding I chose a regular stance because I knew I would pick it up quickly. Now if I start focusing on learning to ride goofy that would unlock so much more potential for me. I'm already super comfortable doing ollies / spins as switch, I just don't do well once I'm in motion. I know I just have to make the commitment to re-learning how to snowboard on my switch side, it just sucks lol.

Great tips for switch or regular riding. I definitely agree that being well versed in riding both ways is a huge boost. Not only to style etc but to safety as well.

Nice one Tommie! 👍Your videos are really helpful. We are in our sixties now, still trying to get the switch thing. Like your method of doing ‘micro skills’ and gradually linking it all together. On the often crowded indoor places here in England, you don’t get much space to yourself so having quick little switch moves we can try is really good. Thanks for the ideas Tommie. We’ll get there eventually! 😀Ray & Sue 🏂🇮🇲🏂🇬🇧🇨🇦🇦🇺🇳🇿

Dedicated this season to switch and these a great tips I want to try next time out. I also got a new true twin board to help me with centered stance and 12/-12 angles. Having it feel exactly the same as regular has made it much easier for me. Keep up the great content!

tbh what really helped me was doing 180 to switch forcing myself to learn how to control that. after about 2 seasons I am really comfortable doing that along with just figuring out 360s. seems like its all coming together. Dont just limit your self to learning just 1 thing. you maybe come out with more than what you expect. wish I had a longer season in Michigan

For me, it was fairly easy because I ride regular in wakeboard, skate, surf, etc but some reason when I started snowboarding riding goofy felt better. Now I feel okay doing the switch

This year while teaching my kid to snowboard ive decided to force myself to only ride switch the whole time when my kid is with me. So ive had a couple full days of switch riding only. Learning switch is honestly same thing as learning snowboarding for the first time.

I am not so in control on my regular stance and now I am working on my switch especially switch toe side control/transition and after that i will start linking switch regular transitions to be able to do spins alot more confident

+15/-15 is a good starting place but tweak it around a little bit to find what's most comfortable. When I found an angle that felt good on my ankles I started getting knee pain and had to bring my bindings closer together.

isn't riding switch just doing everything while facing the other way? other than feeling unfamiliar it's the same and it's about relearning the skills that muscle memory has facing the other diretion, correct?

I'm a beginner (I have been out 5 times on a board but am an advanced skier) but have been riding switch since my first day on a board because I wasn't sure if I was regular or goofy. In some ways regular feels natural, while in other ways goofy feels more natural. So, as of right now, my board is set up to ride switch, and I enjoy practicing both ways. I figure it won't hurt to be versatile. lol
