I've been running an X1 Pro all summer. I have over 800 miles so far. No issues so far. I commute 10 miles to work, at 35 to 45 MPH and pulling 2000 to 3700 Watts, depending on wind and terrain. I hope mine continues to run as good as it does because the primary reason for this bike to exist is so I can carve up the streets and trails around town, my primary recreational activity. Commuting is just a bonus in nice weather. I built this thing to rip around town and endanger my life. It's perfect for that so far.

I bought an X1 PRO GEN 3, and it just blew up !!! and it was brand new. It didn't even make it 2km on a light test ride. I had a professional e-bike builder and qualified electrician install the unit. Sparks came out, the engine seized and the controller X6 burnt out. They glue the magnets on. Lost $2k AUD. THIS COMPANY MAKES THE WORST QUALITY MID DRIVE KITS. A BRAND NEW MOTOR THAT SEIZED AND BLEW UP. ** DESPITE BEING BRAND NEW THEY WON; GIVE MY MONEY BACK EITHER*** ' BE WARNED ABOUT CYC X1 PRO GEN 3 - YOU CANT GET YOUR 'MONEY BACK AND THE PRODUCT DOESN'T WORK.

Ray, they wouldn't give me a refund unfortunately just a new motor and X6 controller. Better than nothing though so I am appreciative of this ,as they could have easily just ignored me and there is nothing one can do. So they certainly deserve credit for replacing the parts in this low trust world.. My discussion points are just my opinion and based on my own anecdotal experience + working with an electrical engineer and his feedback. The magnets need to be embedded in the core so the centrifugal force doesn't lead to the degradation of the unit. In addition from the testing we did the X6 controller is not a sufficient controller unit to handle 72 Volts The motor draws more current than the X6 controller can handle at 72 volts, and the heat generation is far too much. They have flash marketing, so the product looks like a very high quality European product which is what I fell for. In summary it's a very high price for the quality of the engine and the controller provided, so the basic metrics are not inline with expectation. Outside of the plastic CYC motor casing, bracket and other bits and bobs, the core of the engine is a $75 engine and the controller $100 VESC - open source. Chuck in another $200 USD for the miscellaneous parts and it's a $375 kit, with a plethora of "foundation", problems. CYC used to use ASI controllers like the BAC 2,000 & BAC 4,000 [ much better can handle the current draw easily ] however they moved to an open source controller due to lack of control ( excuse the pun) with ASI. The other problem you face as well, is that you're running the power through the chain to the cassette , which is okay if it's max 1,500- 2,000 watts and you're not thrashing it. @@rayrayravioli4250

I purchased a Pro Gen 4 back in June. Problems right out of the box. Torque Sensor not working, stripped screws that I had to re-tap, awful grinding noise coming from a bearing within the drive itself. After months of jumping through hoops (videos, pics, explanation), where they would go silent for weeks and then come back. Long story short, they currently have possession of the motor, I've tried to get my money back from PayPal and cannot because it's past the time period allowed. I quite literally have no recourse. It's absolutely ridiculous. $1,283 down the drain.

Because of these kind of stories I decided to buy the latest 1000w Tongsheng instead, less than half the price, not as much power of course (though it does claim upto 160Nm) but has the torque sensing which a Bafang does not. Maybe the CYC is like a Rolls where you have to have 2 because one is always in the garage

I’m about to be on my third CYC X 1 GEN 3 and I plan on putting it on the bike and selling it. The bike was a lot of fun, but it didn’t take much for it to break each time. They didn’t verify, but I thought it was magnet problems. Both motors that I’ve been through have had very little mileage on them before braking. Just can’t do it anymore.

Man seeing this is really putting me on the fence with CYC, it seems that all their motor kits are plagued with issues, was thinking of buying the x1 pro for my restrictive full suspension frame (where using a toseven/bafang motor would ruin the chainline and render at least 3 of the top gears useless). Although looking at all the faffing about I'd need to do with the cyc motors I'm reconsidering the tosevens which are legit less than half the price (motor kit alone)....

@@baconbuttties yeah the general consensus I'm seeing here is running it at high 72v loads would likely reduce the motor lifespan... Although you'd expect such an expensive motor rated for those 5kw numbers to survive beyond the warranty period... I'm considering the motor on one hand because I know I only intend to run the motor between 1-2kW, where I feel spending the extra 150 dollars or just about 10% for the overall package (including a battery purchased separately) over the cyc X1 stealth would be warranted given I'd be running it far lower than what it's rated for... In hopes it'd outlast a similarly used X1 stealth/photon and wouldn't overheat/thermal throttle anywhere near as quickly. But on the other hand I'm seeing examples like yours where you've ended up selling a £1200++ kit with extras at a 75% loss (I checked eBay sold listings and saw your one). I'll need to do some thinking about it but I feel this may be my best option for a conversion kit given the frame I have.. a Boardman MTR 9 with a 32t chainring, I have barely a cm of clearance between it and the rear triangle/chainstay. So yeah basically I either get the X1 pro, wait for the cyc proton (which is probably going to take ages to come out), or just get the toseven and worst case slap it onto my older not as nice hardtail...

Hi I forgot to mention if you take magnets out of motor you have mark magnet before you move them it's the north and south poles the magnet that came loose normal be the same position but loose if they turned possible you get a steel nail and touch end of magnet touch the ones that are OK the nail will pull to magnets and push off at other end so by doing that the magnets are as they shoud be

I forgot to add, I have the same shed so you might want to put some insulation under the roof and place a dehumidifier in the corner, mine pulls about 2 litres of fresh clean ( I will never drink ) water a week out, the condensation build up in the winter is terrible and if you keep your ebikes/scooters in there it can be game over for the electrics.

Sorry for your loss dude. Seems like you learned a hard lesson. There's a lot of dishonest info on performance specs of ebike motors at the moment. KO MOTO were making ridiculous claims on the performance of their motors to begin with stating 35kw. They have since been tested by customers and it's been proven now that they cannot handle or even output anywhere close to their earlier claims. KO have had to remove these claims from their website because the dyno test results. The ko motor is a run of the mill IPM motor. But, it also has loose phase wires that are bound to ware with friction of the magnetic field pulling on the wires as the phases fire. This will inevitably result in phase short circuiting given enough use. But they make the outside look pretty and then think that justifies bs marketing and charge well over a grand for it! Before I buy a motor, I check teardown videos of the motor I'm interested in. It can save a lot of money. Wishing you luck dude.

obviously a problem with the motor under load, if so they should restrict the power instead of trying to up it all the time, ffs who would pay £5+ k for a fast ebike to go on off road, usually illegally when there are motrcross/trials bike of that price with real power and a proper range with no issues.

This motor that blows was it 3000wat you might think it blows it doesn't if magnets come of its normal two or three Did you take motor apart if magnets come of its because the glue was weak that happened to me a 1500wat so took it apart three magnets were of the stater. So I took all magnets off you can see the marks where they have been. Clean back of magnets and the stater but where the marks are so you can put them back to line them up. What I used was liquid nails. Now you might think DIY for wood and it's for metal. Anyway done all magnets put motor in stater and left it for 24 hrs on the bike ran that bike for three years no problem. When using liquid nails it was a fine layer not to thick as magnets would be to high and would catch router. That's a true story mind I'm a electric engineer it was a good story aad loosing thousand ponds I've lost half of that on ebay

This is the reason I'm sceptical about investing in a kit to convert my MTB, its hellishly expensive for a decent battery pack anyway (which would have to be 72V to make it worthwhile), and the quality of motors seems to be very questionable. And to top it off all the off-the-shelf Electric MTB's are overpriced and too slow.
