By the way, this clip is from 7 years ago, prior to my realization that I was mainly just eating the wrong foods! My extensive research led me to a Low-card / high-fat diet, which pretty much takes care of weight problems if one can stick to it at all. At the time of this chat, I was still eating oats and such. Can't believe it. No wonder I was struggling to lose weight, even with exercise. More importantly, ain't Slamfire a cute boy!!!!!! Thankfully, he's still ruling my life in July of 2024, allowing me to continue as his "servant." :-)

I had a bad back and started Atkins and lost over 60 pounds in just over 6 months. I feel great now and I will never go back. I too was a dog person for over 30 years and then our daughter started working at a vet clinic and when our last dog passed, she brought us a pair of sibling Norwegian Forest Cats and now we are dedicated cat persons. Unfortunately, our male died last year at 14 years old but his sister is still going strong and we have added several other rescues to our home to keep her company.

When I was in my mid to late 40's, I needed to lose about 70 pounds. I went on a "traditional low-calorie diet" and in 6 months' time, I lost a whopping 10 pounds, and my cholesterol and triglycerides were still way out of control. I went on the Atkins Diet (i.e., Low Carb & High Fat) and in 3 months-time without much exercise, I lost over 60 pounds, and lowered my total cholesterol from 309 down to 180, and my Triglycerides from over 400 down to 150. That was when I was in my 40's and I still had an active and working metabolism. Now I'm in my late 60's (pushing up on 70) and I went back on the Atkin's Diet, but this time I only lost 10 pounds in 3 months. "Reason?" Because my metabolism has slowed down a lot. As we get older, that happens. However, exercising helps to build the metabolism up, so at my age, if I want the same dramatic results that I had when I was in my 40's, I have to exercise along with eating the RIGHT foods. Strictly Limiting Carbohydrates (i.e., bread, pasta, sugar, etc.) is the absolute BEST WAY to not only lose excess weight, but to get your body to function properly and lowering blood pressure, cholesterol, triglycerides, and glucose (sugar) levels.

My favorite clip, seeing Slamfire. I have loved cats all my life. The best advice I got was regarding portions: "Eat breakfast like a King, lunch like a Prince, and dinner like a peasant." It makes sense - spend most of the day burning food and not have your resting body at night burdened with a heavy meal turning to fat. Also, I think weighing every day mostly records water retention differences & stomach contents differences: too little signal, too much noise. Once a week I think is more indicative of progress. But yes - the US has too many complex carbs, sugar, fat, and salt in so many foods. Unfortunately, cheap food is bad food and good food is expensive.

@MSDOGS1976 it's really hard to wrap your head around when you've been told your entire life that fruits and veggies are good for you. They are, but they can also be bad for you. Most modern fruit is loaded with sugar and your body converts that sugar into fat. I'm no dietician, so I can't really explain it, but I went Keto and lost 50 pounds in a year. I eat all I want! I'm talking 6 fried eggs and a half pound of bacon is a good breakfast for me. I had fried bluegill filets for dinner last night with Cole slaw. Keto works for me but I've never tried a true carnivore diet.
@thoreau5914
@thoreau5914 7 дней назад
@@MSDOGS1976 I was the same way. It is hard to believe because we have been lied to for decades. The food pyramid was developed by the Dept. of Agriculture to compel people to eat commodities that the Fed. Government was subsidizing. Also, the sugar and processed food industries paid off Harvard "scientists" to spread the lie that saturated fat caused heart disease, arterial plaque build-up, etc.. That is how the old "fat is bad, vegetables good" belief system began. Fruit (modern fruit that is) is loaded with sugar. Vegetables have nutrients, but they aren't bioavailable, meaning your body can't absorb them well at all. Vegetables also contain many natural toxins to affect your digestive and metabolic processes. That is a plants defense mechanism. Animals try to kill you before you eat them. Plants try to kill you after you eat them.

I was 256 in July of 2018. At 6'1", i was considered obese but i wasn't waddling around. I started Keto on July 18th. In just over a year, I lost 50 pounds. As of today, I'm down to around 195 and maintaining. I really dont want or need to lose more. Keto works for me because I'm an over eater. I simply eat too much. With Keto, I can pretty much eat all I want, I just can't have many carbs. That's tough when french fries are God's greatest gift. My BP went from borderline high to normal. My cholesterol dropped from 203 to 140. My kidney numbers are great, and my wife is a retired dialysis nurse, so she watches those numbers like a hawk. PSA is the same it was when i was 30. Glucose levels are below 100. Heart disease and type 2 diabetes are common in my family. My father died at 49 from a heart attack. My maternal grandfather had his first major heart attack at 55. My mother and grandmother had diabetes. My brother had a major stroke at 55. I had good reasons to lose weight. I'm 62 now. Keto doesn't work for everyone. My wife leans towards staying away from red meat. She's fine with fish and chicken. We raise all our own meat. Exercise is necessary, but it really isn't a good way to lose weight unless you are 100 pounds overweight or more. Even then, cutting your calorie intake, or your carb intake, will lead to faster weight loss.

After a couple of years of retirement, I went on a self imposed diet several years ago, limiting my self to 1200 calories per day and went from 256 to 160 lbs. That took about one year. I also started walking one mile every day to help maintain mobility. Maintaining that weight has turned out to be almost as difficult as losing it. Statistically, a man in his 70's should be able to eat 2200 to 2300 calories per day to maintain weight. Realistically, at least in my case, my intake is 1400 to 1600 per day. When people ask me how I did it, I jokingly tell them that losing weight is basically just teaching your hand not to have food in it every time it gets near your mouth. The reality is not far from that. I pretty much gave up fast food, and snacking all day. One truth that the experts have always pushed is that losing weight and keeping it off requires a permanent change in eating habits. That's 100% true. To all those reading this and wanting to lose weight, take heart. You can do it, but only if you truly want it and are willing to make a permanent change in your eating habits. The reward is worth the struggle. I feel better now than I did when I retired 12 years ago. I also feel a great deal of pride for my accomplishment when I see men who look the way I used to look.

I'm 47 yrs old, and it takes a digitally scaled or pre-packaged meals such as Hello Fresh or FACTOR, 1400-1700 calories of premium choice zero sugar/preservative food a day to get me under 210 lbs. That is 10 miles a week of ful inclined treadmill and 4 days week resistance training. I never guesses it would be this difficult. 25 yrs ago I weighed 170 lbs on 5k calories a day and no weight training. What a difference the decades are making.

@@Resistculturaldecline Congratulations on your weight loss. I'm the same way. I ate whatever I wanted and as much as I wanted for decades and stayed in the mid 150's without even thinking about it. Then old age crept up and spoiled the banquet! I miss being able to eat like that, but not enough to go back to it. Because the weight gain was so slow, I didn't realize just how miserable those extra pounds made me feel until I lost them.

I had a cat some years ago that never wanted to go outside (my other 2 cats always tried to escape) but one day she ran outside. We searched and called for her for hours. She was hardly larger than a shoe box so we couldn’t see how she could survive. One day, 28 days after she left, I went out the front door and she was walking to our porch. She had lost weight and was hungry, but someone either fed her or she found pet food outside. I thought she had died. My next door neighbor’s cat disappeared and she found that it had adopted another family not far from us. You never know.

I'm 68 years old and weighed 238 last August - more than I'd ever weighed. I started walking and eventually got up 2.5 miles every morning before eating anything. In January I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Had to take insulin for a month or two. I cut out all carbs for a while, and continued the walking, and my weight started dropping. Soon I was able to stop the insulin, and then the Metformin too. I am down to 194, and my cardiologist has taken me off blood pressure and cholesterol meds. Now I eat some carbs (small amounts but always with protein and lots of veggies). Zero processed sugar. And I drink nothing but water. Occasionally a glass of milk with breakfast. Docs always say it's all about diet and exercise. Well, I'm here to tell you that's 100% true. And you can do it too.

I'm 56 and used to think this way about keeping weight down. I know now, calorie restrictions are not needed. I eat when I want and how much I want. I have went from 280 to 215 and I stay there. The secret, is eliminate all plant foods. I only eat meat, meat products, animal fat, salt and water. 90% of my diet is beef and butter. Lots of animal fat is healthy. We have been brainwashed with food diets just like they brainwash the peasants about guns are dangerous and need to be taken away from us. Try the carnivore diet for 90 days. You will be shocked at how well you will feel and your body go back to its natural weight. You will never have to worry about weight again 😊

I have a large breakfast, bacon & eggs. Nothing during the day then a large evening meal. I'm around 5'10" and weigh 166lbs. Fit & mentally really fit & well. Never feel hungry either. Eating meat, eggs & some dairy make a huge difference. The secret is your No2. Your No2 is part waste, for many, mostly excess. I only eat food my body can use readily so almost no sugars & no carbs. I only do a No2 once, perhaps twice a week. I feel amazing, mental clarity is amazing as well at 64. I'd start by only eating single item foods, remove all processed foods from your diet. Just my opinion of course. 👍

I started eating a lot more meat: bacon, roast beef, pork chops, etc and cheese. I stopped eating icecream and most bread. in 6 months I lost 23 pounds. You don'[t have to starve or become a marathon runner (I was before I got TypeII). You know what is healthy and what is not. I still eat ice cream, Cherry Garcia and Hagan Daz, it's ok to pig out and enjoy life, you can't do it every day or every week but some ice cream 1X or 2X a month is OK. My A1C is 5.7- 5.9.
