Welcome to the endless pit of car/truck camping. My kit is constantly evolving and growing. However my truck is now my filmmaking basecamp and can go anywhere. Come down south and we’ll go do some exploring 🔥 As for sleep system look into a ignik heated blanket to use with your DJI power station. I use it as my base layer. For top blanket get a big aeronaut blanket. Much better than a sleeping bag. For pillow look at a hest pillow
My worlds collide, love seeing this as someone who isn’t heavy-duty in that world but loves having an SUV ready for adventure and using it as a motivator for photography excursions is so straightforward yet finally clicking. Thank you and can’t wait to see what this turns into for you!
@11:30. Look for a quilt instead of a sleeping bag. They are basically a sleeping bag that you just lay under. You can find them from REI or Garage Grown Gear. STAYING WARM: For warmth, make sure the temperature rating on your gear is appropriate. If it's going to get down to 40˚F ( 4˚C) then you'll probably want a 20˚F (-6˚C) rated quilt or sleeping bag. Also, pay attention to where you might be getting cold, if it's your back then you'll want to have insulation under you. A compressed sleeping bag won't insulate your back. PILLOW: As far as a pillow, I'd recommend bringing a pillow like you use at home. That will be your best bet, but if that's too large then try something like a Klymit Drift Pillow. Love that you are adding this into your mix! Thank you for the great content.
“So much tree matter up here, it’s in my bed already” 💀 When are we going on a camping/photo adventure?!? Set up looks great that tent is so spacious I’m jealous!
If car camping is your jam, you're doing it in style! As a long time viewer of your channel (via my personal channel) I was stoked to see you doing an outdoor themed video. We do a lot of hiking & camping in the backcountry but also enjoy car camping when our families come along. Only thing I would suggest adding to your set up is a quilt sleeping system and a sleeping pad (with the appropriate R value for the season) to help you get the best sleep. Cheers! ~ Jono
Im an adventure seeker too.. traversing the Indian Subcontinent and I have been following you for while now. Your videos on FX3 have been my staple but this new direction u r taking... its in the same domain like ours. Im signing up for more. BTW im a noob glamper too 😊
I am by no means knowledgeable on this, I love it, but I know nothing. But you know who can help you a lot your good friend Backi (Becki and Chris). She will hook u up with all the right gear you need to get. This is gonna be a cool new adventure for the channel 😁😁 So happy can't wait
You're living my dream man, up to the last detail :) I know that probably this costs you tons of efforts to get there. Now, I can live my dream through your videos! Kudos 🎉 great choise you've made, definitely!
Thanks so much! 7 years of hard work lead me here (and probably a lot more before that if I really think about it)! Hopefully you get there someday too!
If you build a drawer system for the rear hatch, you won’t regret it. I built one for my 4Runner last summer and I made a video about the build. It two side by side drawers with a slide out table underneath. I use it all the time!
I actually looked into this quite a bit, but there is storage in the back of the car that lifts up from the floor, so if I put something on top of that, I would lose access to that storage. Still pondering on this a bit.
As a non driver, I've been wrestling with the notion. Is a car considered photography equipment? My Ebike and escooter is, my Honda metropolitan is... But I stopped buying cars over a decade ago and life has been simpler ever since. If I need a car my city has Zipcar subscriptions, but driving out of the city never seems important enough for me to get a rental involved. So my question to you is..... Is a car photography equipment?
You may want to think about getting a quilt instead of a sleeping bag such as the Zen Bivy system. It gives you plenty of room to flop around and can be just as warm as a sleeping bag. I highly recommend watching videos by Justin Outdoors. You did not mention having a sleeping pad, but there are a lot to choose from that will increase comfort and keep you warmer. Good luck!
Awesome share. I ended up with the Inspired Overland rooftop tent. Very thin profile so I don’t worry too much about parking underground in the city and less expensive than other brands… plus they have a warehouse in the Vancouver area. Suggest buying a few cheap solar charging lights. They are very useful around the campsite. Also, carry bear spray. Hopefully you never need to use it. Thanks for sharing your setup. See ya on the road.
Since you’re based out of your car, you won’t regret packing some creature comforts. You’ll have room to pack both a spoon and a fork alongside your comfortable pillow and a comfortable chair.
That one is still not quite figured out yet. Where I was camping in this video there were pit toilets. But I think I'll probably eventually get some kind of foldable toilet situation as well. Or bring my cassette toilet that I use from work (my office has no restroom)
Yeah, I’ll try to feature it in the future. But honestly, it’s exactly the reverse of what you see in the section where I take it out. You just push the ladder and the whole thing folds up, zip on the cover and you’re done.
Absolutely loved this video man, really nice work, really liking this direction. Looking forward to seeing what happens next. This felt different to what other people would do, definitely in your own style. Awesome work man!
Get yourself an Aeronaut hoverquilt. While spendy for what it is, you can ditch your sleeping bag and sleep like you do at home. Made a huge difference in comfort for our RTT.
You're not the first to suggest it... I am gonna have to sit with that pricetag for a bit lol. I totally get it though that sometimes those kinds of items are just worth it.
I ended up building out the inside of my car because of a bad experience in a friend’s rtt during a storm, well that and the idea of trying to get my dog up there with all my back problems. Some unsolicited thoughts from having gone down this path: Take a real pillow! This is car glamping (clamping?) we dont have to hike stuff in/out! A small DC fridge was a game changer for me, but also forced me down a lot of diy electrical upgrades to keep things charged. Ditch the backpacking cookkit for some real cookware/cast iron, you don’t have to carry it, fix real/good meals. An awning was a good idea but I don’t often use it. Water management was important on multi day trips (spray bottle with water/vinegar for cleaning dishes). Otherwise find things that make it more comfortable and enjoyable.
That would be wonderful! We've even talked about it a bunch. Though I don't know if it will be in my adventure machine since that would be a 4 or 5 day drive each way haha.
@@dunnadidit yeah it’s a metal coffee pot, you fill the bottom with water, then there’s a kind of metal filter where you place the coffee and when you apply heat on the bottom the water goes up through the coffee and makes a great flavored coffee! You need to try it ✌️✌️
I'm wondering, do you need a full version of da Vinci to download presets on to fusion? I'm on free version, And it keeps popping up unknown tool when I drag my preset to fusion from the downloads
This has been epic. A tip on the sleeping situation, if you are in something a bit more spacious like a rooftop tent or a swag (something we do here in Australia) bringing along an actual blanket/doona and a regular pillow does wonders. Yes it takes up a bit of space but sometimes you can keep the blankets/doona in the tent to keep the space available in the vehicle.
You can get a camp quilt that will keep you as warm as a sleeping bag. Also consider an air mattress. I car camp a lot and love my air mattress. I get perfect sleep with it.
It’s fun to compare you with my friend Ani, both share the same spirit with car camping, she set herself a challange to live out of the Car for a whole month traveling across germany =) Love the Coffee KIT! Without wanting to promote her, you will see much similaries (Queen__of__Adventure here on RU-vid ) PS. if I stept out of boundaries with mention her delet the comment, you are awesome anywhere!
