In my dev process, I mostly use the iPad for my notes. I use the Apple Notes app to keep track of my projects (ideas, bugs, features, UI inspiration, App Store checklist, product website, campaigns…) and I even doodle layouts with the Pencil.

Sketching UI layouts is one of my use cases as well. If you do not try to replace Mac with iPad, it is fine and nice tool to have :)

I’m currently testing an iPad mini as a companion device, instead the iPad Pro. I have the same use case, daily planning, reading, etc, so I think a small journal size notebook will be better, esp during travel.

I had one of the first iPad mini models. It was really nice carry around device, because it fits easily in the pocket. For me it felt a bit too small for sketching and omnifocus.

New mini is great for the almost pocket size tablet. Not any pocket fit it though. Awesome bookreader, browsing and on the go companion. However, 12.9 m1 does the job once there is a chance to reach a sort of a table.

I use K380 about 3 years, and in a my opinion this is the best keyboard for portable work

Do you Have any sutter/lag when the cursor is on the iPad screen with Universal control ? Mine surtter and i Can’t find any solution to make it fluid :/ sometimes it’s perfect during 5-10min then it’s laggy

Good tip about widgets on the iPad: I hope Ventura improves things, but widgets on macOS are awful.

That's a Ridge stand. It is not bad, but it's downside is weigh. For traveling that will be too heavy.

I also recently discovered iPad again. It is perfect for notes, calendar and some occasional RU-vid. My company has given me an older iPad air and it was not used for quite a while. Recently I've been using it to draw some graphics for my videos and I want to use it even more ;)

I have no problems with it. Only issue is white colour - it is getting dirty no matters how I try to clean it

For sure laptop will be better for programming. Get and MacBook Air M1 or M2 whatever fits your budget and that will be munch better device for programming

The biggest PROBLEM is that Apple simply REFUSES to give us MacOS or ATLEAST some kind of MacOS light for Ipad Pro. They have no excuses since the introduction of the m1 chip architecture inside the ipads. We all see how efficient they run on the MacBook Air M1 generation and both have a smiliar battery capacity. So all they do is GATEKEEP the device potential. I bought an used Macbook Pro 2017 for my CS studies and im almost now finished. In the past, and even now, i would trade in my MacBook Pro for an Ipad Pro that can run some sort of MacOS on top of it. And pretty much everyone i've spoken to agrees or say the exact same thing as i do. Its such a waste of potential and they have been doing this now on for years. I personally refuse to own 2 devices, just so that i can write on it.

It's about the apps, ipad with xcode, visual studio and anaconda will be nearly perfect. Probably the best device of all time. But not right now

You pretty much wrote the exact reason they wouldn’t bring it. If they bring MacOS to iPad then they lose tons of revenue from their MacBooks. They are a for profit company at the end of the day and money is what they want. I wish macOS or at least virtual machines would be possible on iPad too but truth is that if I were an Apple executive I wouldn’t bring it either

@@chrismundanchery4357 What kind of argument is that? Its the same if someone would say that Apple would never release a cheaper version of the Macbook Pro, because it would hurt macbook pro sales. Well guess what, they did this exactly with the Macbook Air. Its a cheaper, more affordable Macbook and sales for the Macbook Pro havent been hurt because of that. I see your argumen over and over again and for me it makes no sense. MacOS for the iPad makes only sense, especially for the pro models. There is no real reason to purchase a 1400 Dollar device that cant do anything serious, but has the hardware capabilitiy to do so. I own an iPad Air 5th generation with the m1 chip and its already an absolute overkill. Microsoft showed with the surface pro that is easily possible, and especially since Apple introduces the M chips which run super cool and efficient to reduce battery usage.

Nope, I don't think we will see dual boot iPad. But I sill hope to see some kind of hybrid solution when you can use iPad with macOS when it is connected to the keyboard which runs.

Sometimes. Now I have Ventura as upgrade and clean installation of macOS 12 on another partition in the same SSD.

Can't the M1 Macs run iOS apps? So technically, the iPad serves no other purpose than a tiny secondary screen. I still don't know what it can do that the Mac can't do better, unless you're an artist and use the pencil.

Not all the iPad apps are supported on Mac, some developers opt out from that. Sure, iPad is not must have tool for developers, we can do all the work on Mac or PC.
