I think he's getting used to it. I notice with a lot of foreign guys that come from "more serious" places they just take a while to open up. Like back when larry first went to thors he was kind of quite and then he got used to all of the visitors and such and opened up now he's a regular goofball.

Mateusz is always very worried, anxious and self depricating. That is why he always looks angry and serious. He has always been nice when people actually talk to him, dont forget that he is basically a kid aswell. It takes a lot of confidence and maturity to be relaxed and fun when competing at the highest level. Just look at Olympics, where athletes also tend to be young. No one is ever laughing and joking. He always seems to be alone too, except for wsm where his GF came. The athletes who are loose and seem to be having fun are those with an entourage of buddies.

They are no more serious / miserable looking than anyone else in northern Europe and USA. Italians and Spanish are more expressive (not necessarily happier though). It's Germans & Austrians who are distinctly serious.

Pudzianowski was the best and he knew it. All his comments were about winning or returning to the top if he hadn't won the previous year. We forget how young Mateusz still is - in Poland you enter adulthood at age of 21, so back home he's just entered adulthood a few years ago. It's great seeing him progress and grow in confidence throughout Martins' videos.

That was his choice though. He still knew what the other choice was, and what he'd have to sacrifice. Thus the reason he did retire. Also he says he placed a bet on himself to lift the half ton. Apparently enough to set himself up for life. Either way he still knows exactly what it's like to be in Martin's position.

@@satricon well I will say that to have as many competitors as the WSM has, you have to spread it out more, it takes time to narrow it down to the finals, it was like 3 days I think. for example Arnold classic is 2 days iirc. This just seems much more smoothly coordinated. And who tf thought lifting weights on sand was a good idea

Mateusz is a tank. He's so athletic while being a complete brute. Bit more deadlift work put in and he could definitely snag a wsm. Especially if they continue using events where agility can be an advantage.

The reason I really love watching strong man is because the level of sportsmanship is unparalleled. Anytime there is a head to head event the person who finishes first is always right there hyping up the crowd and they're fellow competitor until they get that last stone up or cross that finish line. @@gamblorthemonster it wasn't corrected though! I think they were understandably keeping it a secret. I always thought it was strange that they werent a couple. What is a young woman, who wasn't a lifter herself doing spending all her time in a strongman gym, tending to Martins every need. Even if it was a paid job, it would be really weird. Lifters usually get one of their lifting bros or coaches to wrap their knees, wipe sweat off them etc. It is pretty damn intimate if you have opp gender doing it (or same gender in case of Kearney) in other strongman soap opera news, Larry seems to have not been in the same place as his girlfriend in months, and has moved full time to UAE. Then he shows up to Wembley sitting with a new woman...

A note to make: In the beginning of the video when Romark asks Martins "what just happened", Martins says "We (emphasis on WE) just took a three hour nap". A few short seconds later, Lindsey appears from the left side of the screen, meaning from the left side of the bed, because Martins is clearly on the right side, the wall visibly behind him. I'm not saying they napped together, but that's exactly what I'm saying.

20:56 Now that's how they need to film deadlift. When they drop the bar, the camera shakes, even from far away, making it feel like the weight is so heavy it's rattling the whole goddamn arena. That really helps you understand the weight.

That camera is likely on a tripod. Those stages are not solid and will flex when the weights are picked up and dropped. That's part of the problem with the elephant bar, it flexes a lot and the stages also flex making it hurt a lot of the competitors who lift it

Yeah I figured the camera was on a tripod of stationary anyway, since it was perfectly still outside of when the weight was dropped. But it's neat how they had it on the platform, far enough away to get a nice wide shot, but still close enough that the vibration transferred to the camera. Things like that really make you realize the freakish, supernatural, godlike weights these people are picking up.

Commenting on an older video, but hey, I'm working from home for the last month-plus. Gotta fill the gaps between meetings somehow... Great job Martins, that last couple of events were great! now finally some real rest. Thanks Romark for the great video, couldn't watch the event because I'm too broke to pay for it, but this video had everything in there and so much more.
