Oh man the old EVA foam and Pepakura method. Still viable today in some circumstances. Most people would just 3D print things now a days, including g myself. Good job using the original method!

I just love the flexibility that foam armour has! I’m able to wear the suit for 9 and a half hours without feeling sore at the end of the day, and I’m sure the weight of the armour and the squishy-ness of the foam helps with that

Honestly I prefer the look of the foam over 3D prints for the armor pieces, and I do agree that the more flexibility is nice to have, so this tutorial is perfect for me. Thank you for the support! I hot knife would probably work quite nicely for those curved pieces. I haven’t really looked into it too much. I don’t think it would save much time though, as I would still probably want to sand all the edges before gluing. Some folks in the 405th prefer to use a bandsaw, which is another interesting idea.

I’ve always wanted to make a suit like this and honestly, after this video I think I will start my own journey with this. I do have a question though. What 3d printer do you use? Always wanted to get one but didn’t know what would work. Once again, thank you for this video!
@N8TEBB
@N8TEBB 5 месяцев назад
Thank you for the support! Personally I bought a CR10 (like, the original) back in 2020. Printers have since improved drastically however. I would not buy that printer today. I recommend going to the 405th, the costumes and props section, and reading through the “what’s your printer” thread and the “‘I wish I knew’ tips to starting 3D print” thread. Hopefully you will get a good idea of what newer printers have, what to look for in a printer, and what other people are using. So cool that you’re starting a build! When you get started definitely start a thread in the new recruits section in the 405th to share your progress and ask any questions you have!

just ran into your channel. love the suit, but I have 1 question why didn't you make the under armor body suit out flexible filament and then just sewed a zipper to it( kind of like a scuba diving suit)
@N8TEBB
@N8TEBB Месяц назад
My Friend OFiveTwo did that for one of his undersuits! It is very possible, but there are a few drawbacks. First, the under suit is quite large and requires a direct drive extruder on the printer. I do not have a very large printer, and I do not have direct drive. Secondly, even though the filament is flexible, a printed under suit still severely limits one's range of movement. I also had easy access to the ab wrap files for foam pepakura crafting, which is why I elected to make it by hand instead of printing it. It's not wrong at all to print the under suit though! There are many ways to achieve a final suit. Each maker just chooses the one they are most confident they can pull off.

Mr. Nate! I'm stuck trying to size the shoe, using Armorsmith; it's not proportionally correct to the rest of the other pieces, any tips?
@N8TEBB
@N8TEBB Месяц назад
The shoes are a bit tricky as you have to make sure your template is large enough to go over the shoe you're building with. Try measuring the shoe you're working with, then use the 'measure' tool in armorsmith to match the measurements manually. Some armour pieces require you scaling and measuring, instead of just scaling to the dummy.
