Oh by the way, here's the link to the video I'm talking about! Probably makes for a good follow-up watch to this one :D ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-e1iVUA3xjoE.htmlsi=u1Pvd0TtMlFziTvf
You crushed it - it was a very clever foundation for the game. Glad you made a video going over it. Definitely not an imposter, they were lucky to have you.
@@rissalayland654 yesss I’m working on a longform devlog for next week about the competition process (in slightly more depth) and also about the future 👀
I was so impressed with what you did with it, and was so happy to see the reception you got. Not sure if I could ever attempt something like that, so serious props to you for stepping out of your comfort zone. Looks like it was worth it.
You were already cooking in the pass the game challenge, but having just come from the recent Blackthordprod contest, I have to say (and I mean this in the best way possible) that you are utterly fucking insane. The artistic/musical/programming talent and sheer willpower to output something so unique and solid given the 3 week timeframe is honestly inspiring. What stands out to me the most though is the clarity of your artistic vision, the ability to work around your skillset and limitations, and your solid understanding of game dev philosophy. Obviously keep practicing, making different projects, and don't let things get to your head too much, but SUPER impressive stuff and definitely excited to see what you come up with in the future!!!
Hey thank you so much!! Don’t mind if I print this comment out and frame it 😆 but seriously, this is so encouraging, and I am *definitely* gonna be keepin on going
How are you new to this? wtf? I've been a professional game dev and programmer for years and can't do all of this. This was a really cool game idea. Easy choice to subscribe.
loved your new game on the gamejam, very spelunky in the best way but totally your own. for some reason I keep thinking about camera angles after watching a godot tutorial and I wonder about if a slight camera change would make it even more unique? just an idea I wanted to share, looking forward to your game.
Ooh that could be really interesting-what was the Godot tutorial? The funny thing is I had never played spelunky 😳 (shameful, I know!) But I’m playing it now to study because I know it’s such a classic!
Why you gotta tease us like that at the end?! Lol awesome job man and glad that you had such a good response. I would love to see the game come back in full!
Hehe gotta build the hype or something Also, it was supposed to be two days from now but I’m told it’s actually gonna be May 1, so… a little more waiting!
Here from blackthorn prod video. While I know that you have to go with the way the vote swayed. I was baffled that they added a popularity contest with a creator who has a million + subscribers. Really sad the way that all ended, but I will be checking out disinherited can't wait and keep up the great work
here after the new disinherited video watched some of your videos and man how are ppl like u so underrated anyways its good i found your channel + dude the soundtracks u make oof they are perfect and my type i love soundtracks and music like those
As a fellow musician I'm loving you unique contribution to the gamedev community. I honestly wouldn't mind some videos where you dive deeper into the compositional process of the soundtracks of your games, I loved them all! +1 for Palestrina lol
Fellow musician! What do you play? I see a bass clef in your pic so my first guess is… cello? Bassoon? I’d love to do a music composition deep dive video! Maybe I’ll do that after the first Devlog goes up 🤔 And hellyeah Palestrina!
After seeing your game in the new competition video, I knew I had to come over to your channel and subscribe. I love your style so much and you are an amazing game dev. Keep up the good work! I can’t wait to see what else you come up with.
I came from the second collaboration you had with Blackthorn (Memento Mori) and honestly that game looked spectacular, looking forward to more of these high quality dev logs
I've gotta say man. I've been watching RU-vid for years and you're one of my favorite youtubers. Your videos are just so well made. You seem like a really cool dude. Please keep these videos up! And your ideas are really cool!
Came here from the latest blackthornprod video where you did absolutely fantastically. You are clearly incredibly talented and your way of presenting things is both cosy and entertaining. I wish you the best in your game dev journey and hope to follow you along for the ride!
There was a lot that was awesome about this entry, but what surprised and impressed me the most was just how skilled you are at music. I have zero music ability, so seeing you able to wield four different instruments was just mind-blowing. I might have to call on you for some in the future.
I would genuinely love that!! And thank you 🙏 I got into gamedev basically solely to compose music for games… and I guess you could say things have gotten out of hand in a very positive way haha
Congrats on branching out into 3D! The character designs are fantastic and do a great job of pointing toward the mechanics. I somehow started here so I'll have to see how the full thing got made.
Hey thanks so much!! It was well worth the challenge to stretch myself :) Also highly recommend the main video, everyone else really added a lot and I could *barely* touch on it all here without grinding the video to a halt to praise them all 😃
Loved your contribution for the kings game video. Basically creating the perfect foundation for everyone to build upon. Did not check out your channel or projects yet, but remembered your work. Then weeks later, I watch the contest where you create Disinherited, and feel like one of the many people that was shocked at you not winning. I go to check out your channel, only to realize you made both of these awesome things. Both projects were such a showcase of how great you are as an artist and game designer, and how efficient you are at creating well designed core gameplay loops and systems! I've watched a lot of Blackthornprod videos, but this was the first time one of the devs has truly stood out to me as someone who's progress I want to follow, and whos games I want to keep an eye on in the future. You know, one of those Toby Fox, Notch type game developers that has a good feel for games as an artform. I hope the publicity helps your projects, and that you are able to make the things you truly have fun creating! Looking forward to playing Lighthoof and Disinherited one day :) !!! Sorry for the long ramble, just truly amazed at what you've showcased! P.S: I agree with the comment about Blackthornprod comment sections being very opinionated lol. I think they are usually not inherently wrong, but it must be stressful for the devs participating in the projects knowing that 90% of the comments end up being people ripping apart some of the devs. I agree with their tastes, but disagree with the tone of that community.
Thank you for taking the time to “ramble” so kindly 😅 being compared to Toby Fox especially is a huge honor that I’m sure I don’t deserve 😆 Haha, and it’s true, I do often agree with the comments opinions but, like you, I’d broadly love to see more empathy for how much work this is, how difficult design decisions can be to make, and how watching from the outside can make the “right call” look obvious when it often isn’t!
Youre a platformer god, that game you did for last competition was amazing. Not just platformer, the music and art you do in your games is super too, like a da vinci game dev..
The fact that you’ve been doing game development for only 2 years and have made 2 games for btp that have been the best in both respective videos (in my opinion) is astounding. I just came from the video including disinheritance and the game was stunning. I would love to know how you started coding (and doing game dev) in the first place and what a person can do to learn the ins and outs. Love your personality and your content, keep up the great work! Just subbed!
Hey thanks for stopping by and the kind words!! I’ve thought about doing some videos like that, but didn’t know if people would be interested. You’ve nudged me closer :)
absolutely loved what you did with disinherited, can't wait to see how you take it further, I especially appreciate the emphasis on a good soundtrack, i would love a deep dive into that aspect in your next devlog edit: 10:19 past you had no idea lol, I think the fact that you lost the newest competition made people even more inclined to show support cause it's such a good game. This game also seems great, hopefully it gets a full release aswell
I would never play it, not really into these types of games. But I did really enjoy this challenge, and how well everyone seemed to be in sync with the general idea. That's the sort of thing I like to see from these challenges. As long as someone is throwing away large parts of someone's contributions, or completely changing the direction of the game, I think whatever is made would be fine.
Just watched the new game competition amazing roguelike insane design you are so talented I beg you to continue the game I will buy it for sure it is amazing you deserved the win!!!
I would love to listen to the song from the game in it's own video or something! It was really well done! It would be a great background song to use for D&D sessions
For real! Most of these challenges go completely off the original rails, and while that can be fun, it’s also cool to see what happens when everyone is working to enhance what’s there!
Haha, while I wish I had, I totally understand the way it went down. It was such a big opportunity to even get to be there, much less in the final two!!!
Here from the original video. You did an awesome job! And by browsing the comments, everyone else thought so too. Hope to see you on there again perhaps.
found you on the most recent blackthornprod 10000$ video and just wanted to say youre incredibly talented and the disinherited games is amazing, guaranteed pick up on steam for me! really hope you keep growing and coming up with really cool games not only in mechanics but also super cool stories to go with them! All the best man keep it up!
