Great tutorial! There's just so much, and as a beginner, it's overwhelming! Trying to do simple animations for our older pidcast episodes to publish as RU-vid videos... That's proving more challenging then expected.
Glad you liked the tutorial! I'm planning on doing a full beginner blender grease pencil tutorial for an animation soon so if there's anything you're curious about that you want included, let me know! :)
This video was very full of good information. I knew that Blender has a grease pencil and that you can make 2D animations in it, but I've just never actually watched an in-depth video on how to do it, how to use it, what settings to use and etc. Thanks for showing this video. Maybe now, I'll start to use Blender. What a great tutorial! Still using Krita since it is easier for me.
I wish I have all the time to learn more of Blender. Doing 2D alone has a lot of commands to keep in mind. I guess I will just stick to Krita for a while. Good tutorial, KD! I like it! 😁👍
This is awesome! I originally created some animated gifs for both my talking and Idle animations but found that the switching between the two seemed a bit janky as it was obvious the loops were being interrupted! Curious how you solved that issue, will have to study the video again.
I think it helps that both of my poses were so similar to one another and I used a small 'jump' motion in veadotube mini to help with transitioning from one pose to another. I'd recommend testing out a couple of rough versions with different timing to see if it makes a difference!
So glad you enjoyed the video!! Some of my faves were this super detailed one by Worthikids - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Dz7V0_qn1Eg.html and anything by Dedouze - www.youtube.com/@dedouze/videos :D
@@kdsketch haha yes Dedouze is king, and wow thanks for the suggestion. Im 10 minutes into Worthikids videos and its exactly what I needed. I've been motivated to learn lately but I've gotta work alongside something from the beginning yknow. Appreciate the rec! 🙏
Hello, maybe I missed this. If I draw a rocket ship on a launch pad and I want to animate the launch. I draw everything. When I go to the next frame do I need to draw everything again or is there a way to copy the none moving objects like the launch pad onto ever keyframe so I don't need to keep drawing them. You were doing that with your avatar's body when you were drawing the hand motion. It would be great if I could copy everything onto the next keyframe then grab just the rocket ship and move it up a bit and repeat instead of having to draw the rocketship every time. Sorry this is long and I apologize if I missed this explanation in your video.
So if you need a drawing to hold for the whole animation you can draw it on its own layer (like the launch pad) and then the keyframe will hold for the duration (unless you move and make another drawing on the same layer which will create a new blank keyframe. For the rocket ship this should be on its own layer too. Once you’ve drawn the rocket you can either move to a new frame and redraw it. Or you can go to edit mode, move across the timeline, select the whole rocket and use the move tools to move it to a new position. You can also duplicate frames by selecting them and using SHFT D on your keyboard to copy the frame across. I have another tutorial on my setup, process etc in my blender beginner guide ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cprYwZ9sFSo.htmlsi=GgJoXL0_o_ISuw8I hope this helps!
@@kdsketch that's great. I know it's hard to explain things in text sometimes. I appreciate the help. I'm going to check out that video as well. Thanks again.
Ok, this may just be me, but does anyone else struggle to sketch/draw free hand in grease pencil? Whenever I try to sketch something out, drawing just feels super awkward to me.
It does take a little while to get used to! What helped me the most was just making something in the program and finishing it quickly so I could try again with something else. new brushes are always a good thing too!
You can’t import as a grease pencil object but you can have the video file imported to the canvas video editor (drag and drop) or as an image sequence as planes - I’ll make a video on it!
Very nice and clear explanation. Perfect clear voice. But... (yeah there's always a but:P) I just started with 2d in Blender, but am struggling with the layers. Also I would love to find a tutorial where simply step by step is told how to add for example in the already existing area a new object or person.... When I add something in the middle of the movie It is flown in from the side. Probably noobisch simple solutions, but I can't find a clear tutorial for it. And of course subscribed!
Hello there, I am kinda sorry to ask this like 1y ago free you posted this video.. but do you accept commission ? Like, can you make one for me and I pay for it ? 🥹 I have literally no skill 🙏
