It is a good question, and one I asked the customer. The customers interior designer came up with the idea, I just did what they asked. However, the heat will still radiate. Yes, holes or slots in the top would be wise, but this would spoil the whole aesthetics of it. There is a fireplace in this room, so my guess would be that it's not used a huge amount anyway. It would definitely keep your glass of merlot slightly warm in the winter though 😉
