Mas huni is a typical Maldivian breakfast made up of tuna, onion, coconut, and chili. When my husband introduced me to this recipe, it quickly became a favorite in our home that we eat at least three times a week. It's fast, simple and delicious! Hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
Ingredients:
1 red onion, medium size
1 scotch bonnet chili, finely chopped. Or any chili that you prefer using to add heat to this dish
2 limes, juice of
1/2 - 1 teaspoon salt
2 cans of canned tuna, drain oil
1 cup grated coconut. If you can not find fresh coconut, then use desiccated unsweetened shredded coconut
Method:
Place sliced onions, chili and lime juice in a mixing bowl.
Squash the onions until they are soft. Wear disposable gloves for this part as the chili will burn your hand.
Once the onions are well mixed with the lime juice and chili, add the tuna and mix well.
Next, mix in the coconut.
Serve with your favorite flatbread, tortilla or roti.
