remember everyone! make sure you get a library card even if you don't read. It tells the local authority that there are lots of people interested and hopefully allows for local libraries to get more funding and stay open :)

But make sure to use your card at least on a yearly basis to be safe. We purge inactive accounts after they haven't been used for a set amount of time. This may not be the case with all library systems.

I just started making bread last week but not on sourdough, just water, flour, yeast, salt and sugar, but I’m still interested in any types of this content! (I too don’t have a Dutch over so high five haha!)

I wished I did too but most people have been complaining about how long my videos are and I didn't want to be boring making you watch me glue for 6 whole minutes. Crochet is a long process, I'm still not done with the bags. Plus the point of this video was to just show my hobbies, not the final creations! Perhaps in the future

I’m so lucky that I have an excellent Buy Nothing community and an incredible second-hand craft shop in Denver, so I get almost all of my yarn from those two sources. It saves me so much money, gives people a way to clear their stash, and helps me sell my crafts at a slightly lower price than if I had to pay for the yarn. I also use Bobby pins as stitch markers, since I can’t find any of the plastic stitch markers I was given from my buy nothing group. I have a zillion Bobby pins, so it’s always easy to find a bunch!

One of my hobbies is going to theme parks, but living so far away from them makes it impossible to go, so I enjoy watching videos or live streams of people at theme parks. It's a hot take, but watching their videos helps me feel like I spend time at a park without actually spending the money or gas to go. Travel, as well as food in the parks, can really add up.

Beam paints are watercolor paints from a family. They wrap them in paper or waxed paper. Some of the palettes are wood logs or seashells. They are awesome and zero waste.

Cool video. Walking is my exercise, so I guess a hobby too. We pick up trash along our part of the Bay Trail when we go for a walk. Oh, we used one of the apps you’ve shown (EcoRate) to find Fillgood Co on Solano Ave at the Albany Berkeley border. A friend & I went on an Eco-date to see what they had last Thursday. I picked her up at the Bart station (train-subway system around Bay Area) on my way, & we popped in to see what they had: lots of different kinds of wood & bristle brushes, lots of soaps, detergents & lotions. The only “food items” they had were prepackaged teas because they were in the middle of getting permits from city/county health departments to handle/sell food like the olive oil I was hoping to buy. Anyway, they had a good vibe and I got to watch him fill lots of requests as people brought in all sorts of containers for dishwasher detergent, body lotions, & soaps. He even had the kind of environmentally safe soap that Dr Broners is, which I use camping/traveling so I now know where I can get more without getting another plastic bottle. Oh, the owner was fascinated that I found him on an app and asked me to show it to him. Then we went up to what maybe the last regular stationary store in the area to pick up a few items just in the quantity needed (I hate having to buy a case of something when I only want one!). My friend got something she needed, but was fascinated that they could find in the back a refill for almost any pen. Then we went to a local place for lunch followed by the farmers market nearby. Next time we will

For the pizza loaf, don't add marinara to the bread. It doesn't cook right. Instead, chop up whatever toppings/low-oil cheese you like and roll into the bread, then chunk it and dip in marinara. I like making my own "pizza balls" which are just bisuit dough wrapped around pizza toppings and shredded cheese, and cooked in a muffin tin. You could probably do the same with your sourdough! I also crochet, but I prefer chenille yarn because it's soft and fluffy. I used to make little drop-shaped stuffies for my patients. The kids felt better about getting shots, the teens had something to fidget with, and the adults would take them to get MRI/CT scans because they were metal-free and imaging-safe. My coworkers asked me to make a poo plushie for their Colo-Guard demonstration, so there's now a happy little poo floating around the office. Now that I'm back in school, I crochet mushroom fidgets (and apparently dog toys), and make/alter my own clothes. I have a HUGE stash because I buy yarn for specific projects, but I'm constantly being gifted random skeins for Christmas/birthdays, or I buy more than I need. I have a lot of small cotton skeins, but not enough to make clothing with. But I have been thinking about making an apron...

We have lots of hobbies in common! One I rarely hear mentioned in eco circles is TTRPGS. It’s basically just playing pretend with your friends. 😅 Our group doesn't use minis and we share the rulebook, so its essentially just a set of dice and a few pieces of paper and you're set for years of entertainment.

I really enjoyed this video. Being creative is a way of life for me. Love the shell art you did. It turned out really pretty. Can you make more videos on your sourdough process. I had an active starter that I ended up storing in fridge for a while and forgot about it. At the time I was using un bleached white flour. Discarding 180 grams of it . Adding 90 grams of lukewarm water and 90 grams of flour. Just this week, I had my sourdough by the window sill and I don’t know if I killed it because it deflated completely and now I’m trying to bring it back to life. I changed jars, using bleached white flour bc my boyfriend got the wrong flour. Instead of discarding the sourdough. I just added 90 grams of water and same for flour . Mixed it up around 1pm today (I went two days without feeding it) and hoping it rises . The first two times I made sourdough bread they came out so flat and looking like frisbees. At this point idk if I should just give up all together. Frustrated
@TheSimpleEnvironmentalist
@TheSimpleEnvironmentalist 2 месяца назад
I have a video coming in May about sourdough! I'm not even close to an expert tho! Chances are your starter is starving. You either have to discard OR feed it more so that it gets enough energy. My friend Maria @livingplanetfriendly is a pro!
@kaygates6738
@kaygates6738 3 месяца назад
I enjoy making bread and other things like pizza dough and buns with yeast in glass I reuse. I had not gotten into sour dough because I kept reading that you had to throw away part of your starter everyday when you fed it or it cannot feed properly. Is there something different that you do or transfer the discarded parts to feed separately? If not, it is still less wasteful than most bread but I would still use regular yeast.
@TheSimpleEnvironmentalist
@TheSimpleEnvironmentalist 3 месяца назад
you don't have to throw away anything! You use the discard in other recipes like tortillas, cinnamon rolls, pancakes, crackers, literally endless ways to use discard

Not everything has to be exact minimum waste, and Im sure for her, the tradeoff of the materials to her joy was worth it. And it would be for a lot of other people too! Having something you made and are proud of to look at on the wall is a wonderous feeling. Plus, in picking her materials she was careful to use as little waste as possible :)

I don't have to explain every part of my life. I'm not perfect, no one is. It was just a fun hobby for me to show off. The shells I collected myself so I guess that's low waste? Regardless, it's art I get to keep forever and think about my trip :)
@TheSimpleEnvironmentalist
@TheSimpleEnvironmentalist 3 месяца назад
exactly! while my others hobbies are quite literally zero waste, it's okay if one thing I make has a little bit of plastic in it. The hot glue I used isn't causing climate change

@@TheSimpleEnvironmentalist I really wasn't attacking you or anything. I did say in my original comment that it doesn't have to be low waste to be worth doing I just wondered if since it was put in a video of low waste hobbies where most of them had an explanation as to why they were low waste if I missed something. you can absolutely make art however you want!
