First off thanks for taking the time to make these videos. I learn so much from your techniques. Secondly, thanks for not putting generic music or for that case any music over this video. Its nice to hear the sounds the material makes when you're manipulated it. No music helps me focus on what your doing. Keep up the outstanding work sir, rock on! \m/

Thanks for the comment, this is the first video I've not had music on and the reason is it's stops people claiming copyright I've had to remove a few of my videos in the past because of this, atb John.

Well that stinks. For what its worth I actually have a home studio and make all kinds of music. I have a song you may use that may fit your style. look up soundcloud.com/crazyhorsemusx and find the song titled "acoustic song 2" if you think you can use it or any other songs on there by all means have at it.

Best advice ever. Take your time. I used to rush all the stages. Now I wait for ever to let glue set, or dye to dry, or oil to soak in, or whatever. The difference is amazing if you just take your time. Do other stuff, read a book, watch a movie, go on a date. Do anything but touch your leather. Each stage benefits enormously by leaving it for a while. Thanks John for all your work. What is that glue you use in that homemade glue dispenser??

New to this and your work is inspiring. I'm planning on making various styles of knife sheaths (and some with pouches on them), pouches, mabe a few other odds and ends like western hat bands, etc. One of the things I don't know is: What is the fastener you use for the pouch flap called (that keeps it in the closed position)? Beautiful work and very informative!

Though I don't know much about leather working I am still able to appreciate the work of a professional. It's people like you who take craft to another level for everyone to enjoy. This education that you is also a form of charity.

Really enjoyed the video. Somewhat new to leather making. What was the liquid that you used before you used your heat gun?
@Brummiejohn200
@Brummiejohn200 7 лет назад
It's Neatsfoot oil it's good for the leather if you get some make sure you get the pure and not the compound it's better it feeds the leather and makes it supple they also use it on horse's legs, hope this helps, atb John.

Great work John and thanks for posting these videos. Can you tell me why you use two different types of glue? The one that you brushed on looked like contact adhesive and the one where you join the front and the back together looked like PVA.
@Brummiejohn200
@Brummiejohn200 6 лет назад
Thanks for the comment, I use PVA glue when I need to move the parts to line them up if you use contact adhesive as soon as they touch they bond but with PVA it gives you a chance to align the parts before it goes off, hope this helps, atb John.
@madcat1007

Just watched this again and saw mistakes I made with my sheath. It would be helpful if we had a description of what you are doing or to be able to see what those potions you're using on the leather are.This is in no way a critique just a search for knowledge. Can you please tell me what treated the leather with many thanks I enjoy the video
@Brummiejohn200
@Brummiejohn200 7 лет назад
The treatment I use for a leather item that will be used outside is first I apply Neatsfoot oil this feeds the leather then I use a product called Snow-Proof which is a wax and very good for leather that is out in all weathers on top of that I use Carnauba crème that is a polish to give the leather a bit of a sine, hope this helps, atb John.
@commandershepard7562
@commandershepard7562 7 лет назад
I was interested in this as well. Thanks for the explanation. In your video you rub something on the inside of the pouch that was in a yellow bottle, appeared to be Fiebings. Do you mind if I ask what it was? Carnauba or tan-kote maybe?
@Brummiejohn200
@Brummiejohn200 7 лет назад
That will be Tan-Kote I always use that inside of my pouches and sheaths it seals the leather well and stops water getting into the leather, hope this answers your question, atb John.
