How I Make Primitive Maya Chocolate

The chocolate of today is very different from its primitive form derived from the cocoa tree (Theobroma cacao) native to Mesoamerica. In this video, I show the primitive process of making chocolate from raw cocoa beans from Mexico. You could say that my hut turned into a chocolate factory.

I've seen chocolate made from raw cacao on other channels, but never this primitively before. Most of them use a food processor. 😏 I'm guessing dates would ALSO make a good sweetener for your chocolate too, or stevia for a sugar free version. Hard to believe something THAT delicious is THAT good FOR you.😋

Chocolate is made in a similar manner in Jamaica...it is beaten in a mortar . Some people add pimento (allspice), nutmeg and cinnamon to it while it is being beaten. It is placed on a piece of banana leaf and shaped. To prepare the drink it is then grated and boiled in hot water and coconut milk and sweetened to taste. Add pinch of salt and strain....delicious

That's the world we live in. Whether it be movies, television shows, the news, politics, advertising, everything is deception, lies, exaggerations of the truth due to the nature of human response. People respond to bizarre, crazy, sexy images so that's what is made and delivered. @ChadZuberAdventures
@ChadZuberAdventures Год назад
Good luck with your gardening. In SoCal there are a lot of crops that grow well in the winter, especially greens like lettuce, spinach, cilantro, onions, etc. The climate at my hut is not good for many crops. The nights are freezing in the winter so that eliminates most crops. The summers start out super hot and dry making it very difficult to even start a crop and then it becomes humid and rains a lot. If I can get a crop to survive the months of April, May, and June then I have a good chance at a successful crop. I tried last year and almost had success with the squash but everything else died quick.

Have you considered building an adobe woodshed? One with gaps between the long bricks, glued together with mud only where they cross over by a few inches so that air can pass through from all side, forming a sort of gingham checkerboard look, and then roofed in bark of course. Even though there will be wind openings, the bricks as well as roof will help keep the rain off the wood even if the prevailing winds blow the drops at an angle (presuming the access opening is on the leeward side).

Yes, a mortar and pestle is great for making flour and powder but as you can see in this video cocoa powder is not the goal. I have a mortar and pestle here too but I use this method as shown in the video because I'm making cocoa paste. It can be done in a mortar and pestle but it's more difficult.

@@ChadZuberAdventures Interesting. I never knew that. I figured the cold grind you introduced might help create fine little chunklets you could then turn into the cocoa paste. I now see why you're the expert and why I've still got much to learn! Thank you for your insight and the videos you post! 😁

This is horehound is medicinal , its name in my country is timirawt . It is beneficial for pain and fever when drunk, and it is also very beneficial when inhaling its vapor while boiled in hot water. Inhaling its vapor strongly and inserting the vapor into your nose is very beneficial for those who suffer from chronic headache pain❤
