This is the whole process behind creating this render. Some parts are removed because it was 6.5 hrs worth of footage. If you want to watch it in original speed set the playback speed to 0.5x.

Do you find Blender Octane's denoiser is good enough to render animations at reasonable speed? For example at 500 samples does Octane denoising produce usable results?

Yes the denoiser is pretty good. I use around 1000 samples in 1920x1080 resolution and it works fine. Also It really depends on the scene itself If the scene is well lit then 200 samples will also work whereas environment with less light will require way more samples.

there is an octane plugin for blender, it's free for 1 gpu.

yes, as I've stated before for 1 gpu it's free, if you've multiple gpus it will use 1. Free tier for blender exists since 2019 or 2020, something like that@@bbrother92
