I got so excited to hear you would pay interns - I just graduated and my internship did not pay anything.. my supervisor made $3k off me monthly while I racked up $7k in debt after the year :( I hope to see this change!
@@aleciamister3412I’m pretty sure she means that the supervisor got paid for the clients that she was seeing for her internship. So after she left the supervisor was still able to file the insurance on the clients that she seen during her internship.
@@phylliswillis1298 How is that working for you? Have you gotten any supervision yet? My best friend and I worked for Meridian in Gainesville/Live Oak. They lied to us to get us to move there and the woman promised it to us and then always cancelled, etc. It was free but she did not respect our time and used it to control us. We had to pay to get done in the 2 years. It is a very narcissistic field. They put their hands on my freind and tried to abuse her, etc...NIGHTMARE. I have seen enough dysfunction in this field by those who are Licensed Clinicians.
This is just sharing my story :) There are lots of ways to earn 6 figures! Here's a video covering a few ways to do it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-D2agvTK6vSA.html
My cpa works primarily with counselors and he was floored when i made 6 figures working 3-4 days a week. I was sooooo burned out working 60+ hours doing agency work and trying to build a practice on the side. I use some case management, budgeting, accounting, and other skills to just take the leap. I wish i had done it way sooner! I love the flexibility, financial freedom, and time I have now. Im also able to see clients I love to see. It is so rewarding.
I wish I liked using social media and building an audience, but I would prefer to just work with clients and live my life. I feel like the market is oversaturated for the kind of content I would make, but this was good for me to think about future opportunities like offering group therapies to maximize my time and reduce costs for clients, providing payable worksheets and journal prompts, doing a paid book club, etc.
I’m a licensed LMFT in the state of CT. Thanks for doing videos like this. They are very helpful for therapists who don’t want to work full time in PP.
I love this! I just finished grad school and someday I would like to have my own private practice and appreciate how helpful and honest your videos are. Congrats on baby on the way!
Wow. you make approx. 45k yr seeing 8 clients! I have graduate degrees and am an adjunct professor and make 30k yr. I also teach a full load of 5 classes, what a full timer teaches, but across many colleges. My take home after tax is like 25k. And the driving to different schools, across the county, and car repair doing 25k miles yr, puts me at about 21k yr. I also use my phone and internet to answer student questions, and work about 50hrs because of prep and grading. I like teaching. I could start a channel maybe and work less sure. My overall pt however is wow, u guys make good money in comparison. I guess therapy biz is lucrative. Very few ppl mKe 45k yr working part time! And as u said, that's not a lot of money lol. Uh yes it is! But look, good for you. The most important thing is to make that green right?! And if u can help some suffering people, cool.
I completely empathize! I once pursued the route of teaching at universities because I LOVE teaching. But after you account for prep, commuting, grading, and the actual teaching no less, I was earning less than minimum wage. The most important thing to me isn't earning the money, but I do have standards that I earn enough money to pay my bills for a reasonable amount of work while I do something I love. I'm glad you found a balance of what you love - it looks different for everyone!
I am a huge proponent of passive income! My husband and I are in vacation rentals through real estate on the side. I want to break into passive income through therapy/counseling as well. Are there ways to do this without doing a youtube channel? I value my anonymity and don't want to be in "the spot light" per say. Thank you in advance!
As someone in the beginnings of this journey by working on my BS in psyc, I’m very grateful to be able to hear this advice this early on. Passive income seems like a really powerful tool. I might try to get more serious about it now while I’m ahead thanks to your words, so thank you!
I'm glad you found it helpful! I do find passive income very empowering, because it frees up more of my time to give back in other ways that wouldn't be an option if I needed to work 40 hours for a paycheck. It creates some unique benefits both for me and for others. Best wishes to you!
Thank you! I do love talking about finances and managing our finances. After watching this video my husband kindly pointed out that I didn't mention our joint portfolio of passive investments. So I'm already planning on covering more about that in another video! :)
Thank you so much for making this video! It was very helpful. I am a therapist, life and relationship coach so this is very interesting and inspiring! Thank you
Absolutely loving this content! I’m current an AMFT and I definitely think this is so necessary for everyone to hear, especially when it comes to experiences of rapid burn out in the therapy world/helping fields. This definitely would allow for more space to really be present and immerse myself in my craft ✨Thanks for the honesty around your income as well, it makes this insight feel more tangible for sure.
I'm so glad! I do agree that at least for me, being able to do private practice part time while not having to depend on it for my primary income allows me really be "all in" with my clients and offer the highest quality care possible. It's a win all around! Best wishes to you!
Doc: Solid marketing strategy, marketing funnel, but you touched upon the most important part. The audience. Any good marketer worth their salt knows it is all about the customer. Two marketing thumbs up.
Thank you! I agree that without an audience, it's either impossible or at least a massive struggle to make passive income (or any business for that matter) take off.
This is timely information. I'm looking to leave group practice and branch out to part time private practice. My ultimate goal is to have a passive income stream that will allow me to travel. The scary part is starting.
60% of client rates for interns what the fuhh? I'm getting 50% and I'm licensed. Well, I'm coming from your video about not wanting to be a therapist anymore, so yeah....i'm sick of this system.
I have a masters degree in school counseling and 21 years experience but do not qualify for most online jobs due to the specific titles needed. How could I build a client base and move online? I'm kind of lost...thank you for your videos!
I hope for the sake of future interns you end up reaching your goal. I'm an intern under supervision and I hardly make 25,000 a year. I only get 22 an hour an none of the late/no show fees my group charges. I'm fearful I'll have to leave counseling because I don't make enough to live off of
It's rough- I'm starting practicum this fall & will be earning $0 from that & will still need to find time to work my current non-mental health job that actually pays me.
Hello.. I was wondering. Do you do all of your youtube work by yourself? Video-ing, editing, posting, managing your comments... anything and everything involved in making income from your social media channel(s)? Is there anything that you outsource or pay someone else to do? Ty so much!
I’m leaving a 6 figure administrative job to focus on my private practice, the math is very simple, 15 sessions x $150/session a week is well over 100k, but I’m wondering how consistently I can keep 15 private pay clients. Definitely interested in multiple streams of revenue.
New to your channel! Love the information you provide. It would be great to have a video on speaker fees and engagements. I have not seen many people willing to discuss openly their approach.
Thank you for sharing!! I am a mom and only want to do my PP very part-time as well! I love the idea of not feeling so much pressure to have so many clients and to be able to offer a sliding scale. Can you maybe make a video on other types of passive income? That don't have to do with starting and keeping up a RU-vid channel? :) Thanks for all your resources!
Thank you! So helpful. I’m a private music teacher & the business model of seeing clients for income is similar. It was great for many years until my children went to school because people want music lessons after school & on weekends. I’ve been really struggling to find a balance, rework how I do it, but it’s just been difficult. Also, I’m a GenX & being all online just doesn’t appeal to me. One of my best skills is how I connect with my clients. There’s a real bonding that happens in person & I don’t want to be alone w my computer all the time. Anywho….these ideas feel feasible & a nice balance. Still seeing actual clients while also capitalizing on some online streams of income. That feels manageable. Thank you! I was starting to wonder if I would need to abandon my career because of its limitations. That would be truly sad because it’s definitely my calling & what I was blessed with.
Thanks so much for the well thought out and well produced video. I just finished grad school and now have my LMSW in CT. I'm looking to get LCSW within 8 months.
Licensed therapists are only able to see clients in states that they are licensed in. Did something in this video suggests something different? The audience is for her you tube channels.
Thank you for this video! I’m a hypnotist and I found it so helpful and inspiring. I was thinking about taking a break from my RU-vid channel but you’ve inspired me to keep going. Like you, I offer a sliding scale and work part-time so that I can be with my kids more, and I want a passive income that will allow me to keep my business pricing inclusive without sacrificing my own well-being in the process. So thanks for reminding me that it’s possible!
Hi. I have a question. I would be very grateful if you could answer it. I have a bachelor's degree in psychology and I plan to come to us to get a PhD. Do they accept PhD in clinical psychology in America from different cultures? And is clinical psychology a good profession in us? I want to work in private practice. And the last question, is it possible to work in clinical psychology in a country where you are not from? Thank you again for your advice
About your course, is it viable for Canadians? I will do it and let you know. If not, how about we add and subtract information to include Canada? It's been a tough road. There needs to be more information for Canadian Counsellors and therapists. There is no standard or direction and I'd love to do this- thoughts?
Aw thanks! I'm obsessed because it's the only piece of clothing that is baggy enough to still hide that I'm pregnant 😅I found it on the clearance rack at H&M I think in late December or early January...not sure if they still have it but they have lots of similar styles for sure!
Do you need a major qualification to be a therapist? I’ve been confident in my ability to discuss and council my peers on various fronts but would eventually like to use my knowledge as a passive income source. Does a degree matter for starting out?
Yes, you need a state licensure to be a therapist that requires graduate school, practice hours under a supervisor, and taking national and state exams. You could also become a coach if you do certifications with less requirements but you couldn't diagnose clients or treat based on diagnosis like you would as a therapist.
I'm from Ghana Africa is very hard for and I went to start online business but I don't have any ideas about it can someone help me step by step so that I can earn small money to take care of my myself and family please 🙏🙏🙏
Hi! I was wondering are any of these income streams possible while still in grad school? I’m hoping to create career-building sources of income stream while I’m working on my LMHC degree part-time.
I THANK GOD I turned on You Tube for some calming music for my daughter's pets (pet-sitting) tonight:) Instead, I typed in Starting a Private Social Work Practice and there you were...Everything is relevant to what I have been praying I could get. Starting a Business, Website building, What I need for starting etc...THANK YOU SO VERY KINDLY!
I realized that the secret to making a million is making better investment. I always tell myself you don't need that new car or that vacation just yet and that mindset helps me make more money investing!
not everyone wants to be a youtuber! also, the title of your video is misleading...because you are not making six figures by being a part time therapist. You are making more money by doing other things that not everyone wants to do
The title is accurate. She tells you exactly how she maintains a six figure income while being a part time therapist. She diversifies her income stream like any financial intelligent business owner would do. If you can’t hack that or don’t want to, then don’t. For those of us who are willing to engage other streams of income, this video is very valuable.
@purpleflows5680 Disagree. The title of the video is misleading. When you say "as a therapist" you indicate that you're using your professional license in some way to make to create this income you mention. Thats like saying, as a therapist I make my money by seeing 3 clients a week and I'm also a real estate agent. The only thing this video is relevant to is the 8 clients a week she sees as a therapist and that's it. So basically, she's saying something different from what the title of the video indicates. Just dancing around the topic we came here for and wasting time. Typical stuff
So you 're not a part-time therapist; you're a part-time influencer. Good job lying to your audience. But then again, good content. Just wrapped in a click-bait lie.
you say you are generating 6 figures as a "therapist" yet you are not even credentialed as a therapist as you have a degree in psychology (you literally said it in your own video). Psychologist not the same as Therapist. obvious con is obvious
Social workers are the most flexible and have super abilities to make money in the field. Make it a goal. When you tell the universe u are ready all opportunities will come🤞🏻
Coming across like a true capitalist- money before people. 6 figures- means what really? If I was a potential client and saw you advertising this on RU-vid, I wouldn't come to you for help. I see no humility or self restraint.
I’m a PhD level group therapist at the top of my 40 year career, I devoted my life to helping people through group therapy. Here are my secrets to having a big house, kids, retirement fund and a Volvo. Make them feel good about anything bad they did, tell them to blame their parents and cut them off as toxic people, charm them, trauma bond, tell them to “call you daddy” because they have to work their dad issues through you, oh and first promise them that this is the best place to work on their issues and makes them better than other people who don’t do this. Tell them they are becoming smarter than their family. Also dress nice and have a centrally located office. I keep them for 10-15 years, then tell them they are just getting started in group therapy. To prevent them from escaping, I require a two year commitment when joining and don’t let them quit without advanced warning of 4-8 weeks and a goodbye ceremony. It works on 70% of patients and provides a fun comfortable lifestyle for me. I plan to never retire and die in the therapist chair. You have a to fish out patients with rich parents and good paying jobs, and let the ones that are onto you go so they don’t give the rest a bad example. The ones that quit I call them lazy and crazy because they misunderstand and don’t want to do the hard work.
