hello, lovely video! just a warning, never cut linoleum towards you! you can really mess up your hand because those blades are extremely sharp. i had a professor who had a u-shaped scar in his hand from those linoleum carving tools. always, always cut away from yourself!

Yeah I was carving Lino at school once and I was cutting towards me my hand slipped and the carving tool sliced into my thumb and it was nasty

also steady the tip of the tool with your index finger (of the hand thats not holding the tool lol) so it wont slip that often/you dont carve too much

just a reminder to not cut towards your hand! if you slip, you will cut your hands with the sharp blade and rlly hurt yourself (we did lino cutting in art (basically the same) and our art teacher constantly said this to us)

I was carving in wood and stabbed myself in the left hand - I had been warned to carve away from myself but nobody told dumb 12yo me that I shouldn't hold the far end of the block with my left hand! Still have the scar, any palm reader will be bemused by my split life line xD

Love these!! A little tip that I love to do with mine is before you trace the image onto it, paint the whole block white (or any light color that different than the block) so when you're carving its easier to tell where you've carved. These look great!!

11:00 there are $10-20 steel bench hooks/inking plates sold through art stores! They're designed so that you can push your medium (rubber etc) up against one side for stability during carving (instead of holding it with your hand), while the other braces against the table. When you're done with carving, it can also be used to ink your roller more easily. It can also be scrubbed clean after use. I did linoleum carving when I was much younger and I was impressed by how useful this gadget is.

NEVER cut toward the hand that's holding the stamp while you carve (unless you're ok with blood, pain, maybe stitches and permanent damage to your hand)!!!!!! FYI, the Speedball carving tool used in this video is NOT designed for left handed people. The sharp edges of the tool are on the side away from what you're carving when the tool is held in your left hand. Because of this design flaw, it's not possible to get accurate carving when using this tool. An otherwise inspiring video.

I just found this video and it took me straight back to eighth-grade art class. One of our projects was carving/designing our linoleum stamps and making prints from them. That was about ten years ago. I just remember it being one of my favorite art projects. I haven't done it since, but this video is really inspiring me to try it.

I'm a beginner at this myself, but I've learned you don't have to trace the design twice. Once you've drawn it on the tracing paper the first time, you can flip it over onto the rubber you'll be carving and just use a blunt tool like the end of marker or the corner of a ruler to rub across your pencil lines. The graphite will be imprinted onto the rubber mat without you having to draw twice and worry about match the lines you just did on the other side of the paper.

You can also just scribble over all the lines with the pencil rather than trying to draw over them exactly, that’s the method I do at least

You can buy linoleum and carving tools. We had to have them for our arts class in middle school

@@asobimo5532 I don't think they sell linoleum here though, I've never seen such a materian in any crafts store I go to, :( but they do have carving supplies

Love this video!! I have the Silhouette Mint and have made many stamps, it's so fun designing it and then the printing process 😍 You can actually mix the Mint inks and create new shades!!! 💗💗

A good, cheap way to spread your ink before rolling is to use a sheet of glass. You can take one out of an old picture frame, it works better than foil (the foil wrinkles), and you can wash it out after and reuse it, so you produce less waste!

for the ink i usually put it on a piece a glass from a frame or a big acrylic rectangle will do the job too!!

You can use mirror or glass to prepare the ink on, then you can use canola oil to clean up and green works window spray, I did this kind of thing in my print making class

I recommend flipping your rollers so that it’s not resting on the roller part, but rather on the frame. :) That’s what we do with our rollers. Can’t wait to finish this video cuz I like it already! :)

The Roman numeral is definitely wrong, since you're not supposed to ever put two V next to each other. But the that's virtually the only blemish in that design. I absolutely love how that moon stamp looks 😍

I've been wanting to make my own business cards + thank you cards for clients with my photography logo and my brain was rattling trying to figure this out - how did I not think of transfer paper, thank you!! This tutorial slays and I really love all of the stamps you made!!

I found that (especially with digital designs) it's even easier to cut them as a mirrored vinyl sticker and just stick that to the rubber :)

1:18 make sure you store your brayers on their backs! it will keep an even surface for inking so you can keep it longer.

Jenny, to transfer the pencil lines on soft pvc a specular design (with less work) you can draw directly on glossy paper for geometric planes, and then reflect and apply it on pvc. Unfortunately it don't work well on linoleum because it's too much hard for graphite!

I did a printmaking class in high-school and we taped a couple layers of newspaper down when inking the stamps. Might be cheaper than aluminum foil😁

Okay. I didn't know this was a thing. I was looking for a better solution than stickers for my store to place on gift/ shipping boxes. The inserted part of the mint can be reused (with some third party consumables). I think this is no longer being offered from silhouette because the high cost of the "extras" you need besides the machine.

You should make a full set of the terro cards on the hand made paper and sell them as a set for decoration of course for a coffee table or something but they are super awesome looking I just got into stamp making
