I love this! Also just want to throw out there for anyone newer to credit cards that it’s a good idea generally to keep your older cards open unless you have other long standing credit history, because your length of credit can impact your credit score quite a bit.
@CarterSullivan

Yep I said that in this video that I keep my oldest credit card open🤭

I made this mistake recently. I closed my student "starter" credit card and upgraded to my Chase card....and my near-perfect credit score plummeted. BUT it's still technically good--just not as good 😂 I'm building it back up, though. I lost the benefit of having a good 3 year history, but now I have a much higher credit limit and lower utilization. So you win some, you lose some.

Timing when to open a new CC is genius 👌🏾. I'll have try that instead of just randomly. I usually try to just request limit increases when I get the urge to apply for a new card. 🤭
@CarterSullivan
@CarterSullivan Год назад
Yes it is! Typically Matt and I map our year (and what we hope to do) and then time our credit cards around them. So last year I opened a new card when I had to pay tuition and also for renos! I've also heard people say open a credit card before planning a wedding/elopement which is smart!

Overall, what do you value more, paying off debt or saving? I know you've touched on this. For example, I just had a $1000 unexpected car repair, and I'm trying to build my savings. Do I sacrifice my savings and pay it all off or pay in increments and still save? Curious on your opinion!
@CarterSullivan

Hello Carter, Thanks for sharing your financial journey with us. Do you put all the required data in the transaction tracker at the bottom of the template? RRSP reduces tax you pay now, but you will be taxed on all withdrawals based on your income at the time. RRSPs have to be converted to RRIF(registered retirement income funds) by the year you turn 71 I believe. They force you to take a percentage out, and you can take more if you want. If you don't have a pension and have high income now it's pretty good. I prefer to max out my TFSA for tax free withdrawal and not be forced to take it out with tax.

A word of caution about credit cards, if you overpay your credit card bill on accident, on a credit card that isn’t directly part of your bank, it can take months to get that money back 😅 and it’s a lot of back and forth with the bank and your credit card, it’s happening to my husband (and it’s not a small amount 😅), So just be mentally present when paying your credit card 😅
@CarterSullivan
@CarterSullivan Год назад
Good to know! I overpay mine all the time honestly and it just carries over into the negatives!
@MathildeG
@MathildeG Год назад
@@CarterSullivan the problem is this was a lot of money 😅 and an accident, we thought it was a fraud at was It turns out it wasn’t but he overpaid when he wasn’t paying attention, it was more than his credit card limit Anyway it’s a mess because they blocked his credit card for a month so he can’t even use that money rn Just wanted to let people know to be aware

There are pros and cons to it- yes we have a lower interest rate but we bought our house in a peak time so it cost us more than it would now BUT now interest rates are higher!
