i mean i can understand people getting a divorce it happens (even if it was VERY UNLIKELY considering how Barney grew some much and really deeply loved Robin ) BUT IT is JUST SO CONFUSING...WHy did they make the entire season 9 about THEM...OH God ! I SWEAR WRITERS SOMETIMES....

I still think it's good. The series is funny most of the times but sometimes the show is like "reality hits you hard bro", so is life. When you tell someone a story about an event in your life you sometimes explain it in every detail and sometimes you just say "Well then this happened.". What I liked about HIMYM was that it was so un-American when it comes to the lovestories. It's more than that. Sometimes you meet a person, fall in love with her and then the feelings disappear after a while or you realize that you cannot be together because you have absolutely different personalities. Happens.

I honestly didn't necessarily have a problem with robin and Barney's divorce or really ted going back to robin after the mother died. I do however hate the finale. It was bad because it shoved ALL of that into a few minutes of one episode. Barney and robin'a divorce happens in the first 5 minutes and ted and robin getting back together happens in the last 5 minutes. What they should have done if they wanted this ended is to have a whole season showing Barney and robin slowly growing apart over time, and not just have them divorce because of one fight. Same with Ted and robin. The mother getting over her old love was shown way better than ted and the Mother and ted's relationship is the premise of the Entire show! If they spent a whole season showing teds slow recovery after the mother died and the grief he had to go through (similar to Marshall's dad but longer), then the ending would have felt way more appropriate. But because ted meets they wife, the viewers see her die 20 minutes later, and he gets back with robin 20 minutes later in the episode, then it feels really rushed. I know they said it was 6 years but it didn't feel like it. Honestly the concept for the ending made some sense, but the execution of it was HORRIBLE! Sincerely, Tromboneboss :)

I don't believe for a second that R & B would have really divorced over her job. They have a ton of $$, they wouldn't have been staying in shitty hotels like the finale suggested, and busy people make shit work ALL THE TIME. If NPH can juggle everything he does and maintain his family, the writers could have made it happen. Such a disappointment.

Yes exactly. The finale was like a recycling of the whole series. Including Marshall with his ups and downs in his career.

Martin R I was so happy that Robin split with Barney. I knew that relationship was ill fated. They acknowledge that themselves many times. It was more of a fling, they had more physical attraction than anything else. Robin liked Barney because he reminded her of her dad, and she longed for a father figure since she lacked it as a child. That's a really common occurrence. Once she matured and was able to move on from the childhood need, the relationship fizzled. I don't think she should have ended up with Ted though. He was too needy and doting on her. She would get bored with that. But he is better for her than Barney, because Barney will always be immature and self-centered. (Although yes he totally improved at the end.)

How did they throw it into the water? Just because he couldn't be with Robin in the end? Stuff like that happens and feelings change. Just he got back to bang random girls doesn't mean he didn't learn anything from it. And he became a father who cares. Old Barney wouldn't have been able to do so.

To me it made sense. It's the reality of who these characters were and what they were really after.

Have to agree with you! I loved it. It showed off what How I Met Your Mother really is and what it really can be. It was also very true to real life, which i thought the entire series was very good at stating.

I liked it too! Life happens, the wife dies, Barney and Robin get divorced. And I always wanted Ted & Robin to end up together.

I've never seen someone so obviously screaming internally in my life. And they all totally lied. They don't feel that way about the finale at all.

I feel really bad for them honestly. As pissed as the fans are, imagine how they feel as actors. All of the work and time and love they put into this show, only to have all the development of their characters over nine years thrown out the window for a stupid ending. Imagine how Christin Milioti feels. The Mother was supposed to be this big, important character who was the love of Ted's life and they just killed her, offscreen, of some unknown illness without giving us any time to mourn her before Ted's running back to Robin. I understand it's been six years for Ted, but it's been six seconds for the audience.

"They had an endgame, there was a plan, they've been laying something out since the beginning." They knew from the beginning that Ted and Robin would end up together because they only allowed that possibility to be filmed (via the kids' reactions), but they didn't care that it didn't make sense anymore and instead went along with it, destroying the character's growth and history in the process. It feels like we were cheated out of a real, satisfying ending because the writers couldn't get themselves out of a corner.

Cobie had a pretty similar reaction as well.

It's almost like there was this big rise-up to Barney's and Robin's and then it just gets pushed off the cliff. Same with meeting the mother. The end result just seemed so random.

His last say was on a podcast years after the show ended. He doesn`t have to be diplomatic about anything.

Oh come on. Are you really sure that you saw expressions on the faces of Neil and Cobie that obviously said that or are you rather wanting to see this reaction and interpret it into their faces? Of course, as everyone, I was sad that the mother died, but on the other hand the ending makes sense, especially if you see the whole context.

It was clear during the whole series that it's all about Robin. If u didn't get it, then you are not as smart as you think.

People stop acting! In what world is someone dying specifically the love of your life dying something anyone can enjoy?! Realistic or not it's sad and heartbreaking. Not to mention the destruction of nine years of character development. If the show is about moving forward then why did everyone end up back to how they started! Only Lily and Marshall progressed. The ending was unsatisfying and even the actors know it! Is it realistic, yeah. Is it BS, yes! The writers fucked up, they build up the story for nine years with one endgame in mind. It would have been a good ending if it was a five year show. But they insisted on one ending even after 9 years of plot and chatacter development. They fucked up, they let the show run too long and in such time their end game certainly should have changed after so much time! It's just not that the mother died even though no way is that a positive or likable thing, it's that Ted went back to Robin on some Ross and Rachel Friends bullshit!

Can you say this louder for the people in the back? You didn’t like the ending. So what? It’s not your show. You complain about writers messing up the ending to your favourite show but by going around and saying crappy things about it, you’re ruining it for the people who actually liked it.
