I just can't wait to move houuuuseeee (sang like North West) / dana_._andersen / danaoandersen ko-fi.com/dana... / dana_._andersen patreon.com/DanaAndersen
When I moved to where I am now, I had hardly any stuff. No chairs or sofa, no carpets, no wardrobes, just a mattress to sleep on. It took up one little corner in this massive van. 23 years later, I want to move again. This time it will be an industrial operation with a whole 2 bedroom house full of furniture and stuff.
Moving is the worst. In the UK there are various 'compare man-and-a-van' sites that rely on reviews to rate people - I got mine through there and they're much more likely to turn up and be careful with your stuff because they need you to leave a good review 😅. Good luck x
Moving is so stressful! One thing I've tried is hiring help and/or van/truck for only the heavy, big, or awkward items so it's less expensive. The rest I managed with several trips and friends. Wishing you the very best in finding your next home and moving 🙏
Ive been through the same stress and anxiety every time i move. It has a detrimental effect on health, mental and physical. After a month or so i begin to notice that i have made it my home and that some old doors have been shut and that new doors have opened. I have recently realised that im like a crab, my old shell becomes cluttered with bad associations, memories etc. and by moving into a new shell i can live and breathe again. I wonder if that's how you feel about too? 🧔 👍
I think they think that how do you move because The place you move to is Not familiar to you But you forget it is familiar because you pick the property you obviously like the property or willing to put up with the property before you move in
You’ve definitely been and gone by now, I really hope your viewing went well. I’m in Australia, but I had a very similar experience last time I moved. The anxiety of going to inspections and having to do applications, especially as someone who isn’t employed, is just terrible. Dehumanising even. With the actual move, it’s me and my partner and we luckily have a car and both drive, but it was a lot of back and forth and a big struggle. Good luck, sending my positive vibes ❤
I’m moving next year and already shttng myself! My father is also dead and I do not speak to my mother and sister. I don’t have a lot of stuff left from my unexpected relocation in 2021…but my goal is to get rid of everything I can before moving again. The older I get, the more having “stuff” and “things” stresses me out.
When I moved last year all the walls were white and I found it so depressing to stay in as I didn’t have the energy or money to paint or decorate for a while
I've always been really stressed by other people moving my stuff because there's always something that breaks, even when it's my own family. The last move, I got offered to have an expensive removal company paid for (who had just moved a mansion contents before mine), so I took the offer thinking it would be the safest for my stuff and I really regret it 😞 there were about 12 men who all came in and started taking stuff so fast from every room at once so I wasn't able to give any input, and I even paid for expensive insurance, but when they'd left the new place there was so much damage to my stuff, worse than any cheap option I've used. And then I found out that I had to pay the first £100 for any item I wanted to claim for, so it was not worth it... about £800 down the drain in total. I don't understand how other people can move and not get so distressed about the damage...
Hope the viewing went well! Good shout with the clothing to protect fragile stuff, towels are also great and maybe even a bit more padded. One thing I've repeatedly found annoying when moving is getting the utilities like water and energy transferred without ending up paying the old supplier for a chunk if the previous occupant. If you get a place where utilities are included in the rent, that's at least one less thing of admin BS to deal with.
Best wishes for your move!! I've moved so often I just kept all the boxes folded up - I've had some of them well over a decade, since we moved from London to Suffolk!! We're just thinking about moving again, but now we have the extra complication of having to sell the house we're living in, which neither of us have ever done before 😱
I hope everything went well with the viewing! Every time I've had to move I've done a really messy/chaotic job at it. So much has been broken and lost but once it's done I deal with it and adapt as best I can. I've always been better at helping other people move because all I have to do is haul stuff from place to the other and I'm done. My little sister has moved so much and I've been there every single time. She's not autistic but she's just as messy and chaotic at it as I am lol
I'd wish you luck, but your viewing was 3 hours ago. How did it go? Since people asked, I'll put some moving advice here (you have great advice, so I don't have much to add). If you think you'll be moving in a few months, now's a good time to get rid of stuff you don't want or need anymore. You'll have less to pack, move, and unpack that way. A cheap way to get boxes is to go to a grocery store. They're always getting rid of boxes. Ask them if there are any boxes at the back of the store you could have for moving. Once most of your stuff is packed, the rest will likely be random stuff. Don't bother trying to organize it. If it was important, it'd already be packed by now. This is no guarantee, but can help in the long run: If you help your friends move, they're more likely to return the favor.
I almost forgot. Before you move, check the new place to see if there's anything there you want to clean. When you're actually moving, pack and move the cleaning supplies last, just in case you missed something and you're trying to get your deposit back.
This was really helpful! I’ve helped friends move in the past and that was easy because they would tell me exactly how to pack their things. I will probably be moving soon and I have no idea how or where to start packing my own things. I also have a lot of stuff (sentimental things) and it’s hard to part with them. I’m not a hoarder by any means, but it’s still a lot.
sending you good vibes!!! truly hope it goes okay. i moved countries a couple years ago and gosh it really is a lot and i think i dissociated a lot during that too. you deserve to feel safe and comfortable, really hope everything works out alright! ❤
ive moved 17 times over 15 years. and one place I lived for 4 years! With 2 cats. All but one maybe 2 of the moves, were done basically just me and my car. I usually had someone who could do a bed but most of the time I would get rid of as much as i could and start over on an air mattress. I guess i bblocked a lot out, i didnt know i was autistic either. I have been in my current suite for 2.5 yrs i believe. I will not be moving again unless its into social/supportive housing of some sort. hoping all goes well or went well (sorry i was not paying attention for the whole video)
