How I nearly ruined this river diorama... and how I fixed it.

This was a near disaster.
I used UV resin to create this river diorama and I only just managed to rescue it.
Find out how by watching this semi tutorial. It's more of a walkthrough, but I hope you enjoy it.
It features two US Airborne figures in interesting poses. You may have seen them in a previous video of mine.
To me it kind of looks like they're asking each other, 'What now?'
In this video I use products gifted to me by Diorama Presepe, Noch and Hot Wire Foam Factory - though none were gifted for this video specifically and I received the items a long time ago. This is just full disclosure.

Thank you for showing the whoops, I always appreciate it when creators share what went wrong and then how they fixed it. Personally, I think this turned out amazing, regardless of the issues you had. You persevered and it looks so good!

We are our own worst critics, you know where you considered you went wrong with it and you will always see that, but next time you will use a different approach and have an out come that you are more happy with, but seriously it's a simple but beautiful diorama, thank you for showing the build to us.

Very happy to learn the tip about using UV resin on the top layer for ripples and curing as you go. I don’t think I’d have thought to try that.

The diorama is gorgeous! ❤ When you create something, you will always see all the things that (in your eyes) went wrong. But everyone else will see just a beautiful piece of art. And that is wat it is, in my humble opinion.

End result looks fantastic, speedbumps along the way or not 👍 Unsolicited tips 😜: A higher intensity UV light will penetrate deeper (and through the tint medium) as opposed to the hand held flashlight style, and help ensure complete curing. The Birch seeds,are actually the husks of the Catkins or seed pods of the birch ( the seeds themselves look like winged apple seeds only smaller). Cathy Millat and I were having this conversation last year, They are fantastic for sycamore and Ivy leaves etc in 1:32 right down to 1:50 scale. Fantastic work as ever, keep em coming 👍👍

I wouldn't even have known that was a mistake if you hadn't said anything...it turned out so good....I'm guessing you were going for a good ripple effect which it did a good job doing that...

You've made a lot of videos that I come back to time after time for reference and inspiration, but this might end up being the one that I rewatch the most. To see how you persevered even as just about everything went wrong and still achieved a result that I can only aspire to, that's very inspiring. I'm sure plenty of less-experienced modellers would have tipped the whole thing in the bin quite early in the process, probably me included. Thanks for sharing this, I'm very glad you did.

I can never quite get a complete cure with my uv light, so I end up only using uv resin on sunny days. 😅 Probably should invest in a new light one of these days...

May I suggest that instead of Milliput, you might like to try DAS Modelling clay, it is much cheaper and can be manipulated and kept moist with diluted PVA glue. Regards Lexi

My son and I love your videos and they are a great inspiration for our products. We tried your mod podge technique and really could not get the same effect. The MP just kept falling flat and not creating any ripples. Any idea what we were doing wrong? Keep up the amazing work.

A vignette is created to put/show the vehicle/figure in focus, while a diorama is supposed to "tell a story". I don't know but this could be both, depending on how you look at it, lol XD
