(The ebook tutorials are now Patreon rewards, along with early access to RU-vid videos. Any information given in the video about previous Patreon rewards may be out of date.)
This epic video will show you how to make an amazing forest river with foam, epoxy resin and a few modelling supplies, as well as with a giant oak tree made from wire and putty.
The end result is an incredibly realistic model forest scene.
If you want to know how to achieve stunning results when making a wire tree, look no further. The tree in this video is, I think, about as realistic as it gets. The bark is hyper-real, complete with moss and lichen and cracks.
The rest of the scene consists of a gentle river made using epoxy resin and Mod Podge flowing between mossy rocks and banks. The video shows you in detail how to model water effect, how to model moss and create perfect vegetation.

Hi High Eye. Not the way I'd make a wire tree, but still, a superb result. Love it all. Superbly produced video, with lovely camera work and narration, although @26.50 I could have bet my bottom dollar that you were going to end the sentence 'I also tend to apply a thin layer inside of the masking tape, just to secure the dam(n)........... THING.' LOL.

Hi Merrick, I'd have to say that the oak tree was the most impressive transformation I've seen on your channel. I won't lie, that thing started out looking bulky, not very tree like, and a bit ugly. Boy did you transform it into a work of art. It is always so interesting to see how you create your dioramas.

Masterly done! As I was saying on Insta, when you see the end result, you can feel the wet and the damp - mark of true realism. Your tree making methods in this one are pretty unique: have to experiment with that myself. :) I feel that though, the static grass for the twigs have gone a little too heavy, expecially on close-ups. Would you consider using a lighter spray of glue, and reduce the density, perhaps? I also think shredded fiber foliage is a good alternative and looks more natural. Great stuff, as usual Merrick, looking forward to more. :) Cheers! Kaustav

You don’t need bigger space to do things, if you want a setup, I’d suggest dedicating a drawer or box to supplies, and just lay out a cutting board on a table to work on.

Some people think they find negativity enjoyable, but actually it's a trick of the mind. It doesn't bother me when people dislike something I doz though. Actually exhibiting that dislike is odd behaviour - but If they react, it boosts the algorithm, so their negativity turns into a positive 😊

While I'd love to get into model making, I'm not sure I can reconcile with how much sytrofoam is used, environmentally-wise. Are there other options for base materials that aren't plastic-based?
@HighEyeWorkshop
@HighEyeWorkshop 3 года назад
Wood, but that's still extractive and probably has a larger carbon footprint across its life cycle. It requires cutting down trees, the growing of monoculture lumber forests at the expense of biodiversity, processing and then it's heavier for transporting, using more fuel. Making a permanent sculpture out of plastic isn't a bad use of plastic. Single-use plastic is what we have to limit.
@jeffsmith9036
@jeffsmith9036 3 года назад
My model railway layout uses used polystyrene as a base. Yes it's plastic but it's not easily recycled and the local organic food shop were delighted to get someone taking it away. It doesn't look good but you just have to cover it up well enough... I used cocktail sticks to put the layers together I think some people also use papier mache as a base (used paper etc, though I wonder how much plastic goes into the glue with papier mache!)
@pathwanderer1183
@pathwanderer1183 3 года назад
Just my crazy idea, but You could try to ask friends to save the styro their electronic gadgets and such come in. You could ask stores to save you their styro when they unpack show models etc. put an add on your supermarket bulletin board asking people to save styro for you. if you consider how much there is around one TV set, I think you will be drowning in the stuff in a week, and all stuff that would otherwise end up in the incienerator. Some pieces might demand a bit more work to be brought into shape, but you dont really need big flat sheets (although some titems come packed with one) since youll be putting stuff over it anyway. You can also put several smaller blocks roughly together and then cover them. to form a flat-ish base.
@lindapowers374
