I work at a brokerage in tx and one thing I can tell you is that you have to read the rate con. They are not all the same. Also if you book loads closer to the end of the day the broker is more likely to move on the rate because they need the load moved.
@Gill22
@Gill22 Год назад
Great tip Michael thank you for that!
@chrismercer4947

Its not just where the load is picking up, but also where it is going. Thats what determines the rate. Been doing this 25 years and i can tell you this, dont always look at the rate. Look where its going. What terrain you have to drive through to get it there. All that matters. Good video though. Like watching you young guys trying to figure it out lol

My cpm is under $1 that’s the beauty of older paid for truck. Even when I get my own trailer it should stay under it, however when I add the 60cpm for myself so I’m at $1.60 so anything over it from my 100k miles I drive is adding on top from $60k a year. I’m in Midwest so I have a great market imo, owned my truck for 5 months total miles so far has been easily over $3.5 round trip, I think main issue for most people is overhead and they dig themselves in debt so they end up running cheap crap cause they’re forced to. If I go to area there’s no loads I just go home. Main advice I’d say is build good relationships with brokers, even when loads are dry those brokers will give you a rate well above what they have posted.

5k is on the lower spectrum of the earning curve. Coming from a place of experience, the market fluctuates and changes all the time. Currently as I'm leaving a comment, Atlanta isn't in a great shape and I wouldn't consider running around that area with it as your main hub. With time even if you drive all over the US, you will learn that there are several hot spots for every type of equipment and if you plan your routes accordingly to arrive in those hot spots once a week or so, you could be making double of what is talked about in the video.
@Gill22
@Gill22 3 года назад
Yeah I wholeheartedly agree. I don’t ever want to exaggerate numbers and give people false hope because there’s a lot of that going around in the industry. I think I left out the part where I said you can make $5K if you drive regional/local only, you’re home 3 days a week, and you only do dry van loads which is not bad at all.

What advice would YOU give to new owner operators when negotiating loads?
@Kid_A-Lo
@Kid_A-Lo 3 года назад
If you’re familiar with an area that barely has loads coming out of it, that is a negotiating tool also. I’ve gone to Buffalo NY and there’s nothing coming out of there most of the time, so I tell the brokers, I’ll need a higher rate to cover expenses on the empty trip back.
@wasifsharif786
@wasifsharif786 3 года назад
There are multiple options depending on load and broker. Going to dead area, heavy load, spacial requirements, playing with time and mind of broker, hold techniques, extra DH miles, urgent or early pick ups... etc. But keep your target in mind before going on call.

CPM is playing into the broker bullshit! As a carrier or owner operator, CPM means dick. What does your truck need to make per day!!! If a broker is touting $4.00 a mile for 600 miles picking up Monday delivering Wednesday, that is a shitty deal. If you can run your business on $2,400 over 2.5 to 3 days good for you. We dont do any runs for less than $1400-$1,600 per day!
@Gill22
@Gill22 2 года назад
Ooo that’s a really good point! CPM isn’t perfect because it doesn’t take into account time which is crucial. Let me look around and see if I can find a more encompassing metric but CPM is a good start for newbies

@Gill22
@Gill22 3 года назад
Hi Darel! Yes you can! To find these loads just sign into DAT, click the search loads option, under "Truck" click "Only", and finally in the field next to it just type in "SB" which will give you option to select "Straight Box Truck". You can also specify the length of your truck as well. If you're having trouble following along, I made a video walking through how to book loads on DAT that you can watch as well. Hope this helps!

Gross + 5000$ from just one truck? brother you must of been doing horrible $, Normally i gross between 9 to 13k/weekly depending on market conditions, strategy, and drivers restrictions its also a factor, in todays market making 13k weekly, its good to dream. That said, i saw your vid, some rookie info but its good for beginners. #1 If your using DAT's Heat map still, lets just say you need to do some serious upgrade, its not based on profit, that being said your falling behind. #2 A loads delivery location is extremely important #3 Not giving out too much info for free but a simple copy to the right sheet on all loads they have posted, sorting by profit will tell you in a second if the market is hot or cold and will put at the top the best profitable load, i don't do this anymore but its 1 way, that took me back. #4 If anyone is thinking of buying a truck in 2023 i don't recommend it but....Good luck.

hey! one question. at the beginning you say that you can win 5k at a week and in the middle you say that you put you CPM to win at least 50k yearly. I don't understand how much you can earn yearly with this business. Thank you for you video and the template!

Can a trucks dispatching company be set up and operated from abroad? Is it possible or it is even legal?
@AlexanderCruz-i2p

This is all perspective. In real time you barely have seconds before someone else books the load. You can almost always get some bucks on top of what is offered but never your desired rate. After all even the brokers have a payout bracket. In certain desperate instances this may not apply, but normally the factors that are at play are how old your MC is and what load is available to you. If one happen to has a network of brokers who regularly share loads with you then you have an advantage, otherwise, its only you and the loadboard at the mercy of the God and the broker.

A big problem is that so many owner-operators are going so cheap on the rates. The shippers know the mistake they are making and capitalize on it. The operators will run their trucks into the ground and not have the cash reserves to repair them. They will go out of business, and the next operator can hop in and perpetuate the same mistake. So, for the smart operators out there they will have a hard time getting the proper pay because there's always going to be a lot of new operators unwittingly going too cheap and giving shippers a steal of a deal.

Hi Gill22...i have DAT truckersEdge load board access for 39.99 per month. BUT it looks nothing like your DAT board. Is this something different than what I have? Where can I get access to load board and all the features you mentioned here? Thanks
@Gill22
@Gill22 3 года назад
I have DAT Power. I don’t think that’s the highest end load board they offer, but it has enough features for me to do my job! I would definitely look into that.

Hi! Love ur content man! Question. So ur netting 5k out of 7-8k gross. What's included in ur expenses (truck payments)?? What's your home time like? Your averaging 7k miles monthly? Are u dry van only? U own ur truck and trailer? Love ur videos bro, would appreciate any insights. Looking to buy a truck soon
@Gill22
@Gill22 2 года назад
Yes but don’t expect to net $5K if you’re just starting out. We have direct shipper loads that have increased in value over time. You might be grossing $5K if you’re just starting out but you can still net over $100K per year including ALL expenses not just truck payments.

What about becoming a broker is that a good thing to do

You can make money doing ANYTHING in the US as long as you're good at it. Brokers, dispatchers, truck drivers, owner operators, etc. are all great careers to pursue in my opinion. What's more important is figuring out what YOU enjoy!

Lol we just need to be honest with each other about what we need to earn a. Lviing an provide. We can stick it to the shippers etc if we are actually transparent. Or don’t view each other as commodities instead we help each other out when we can per-say like I make a 550$ margin an next round I’f we run consistent lanes you get the more margin…

I see what you mean but it would be almost impossible to create a unified front. I’m hoping through this channel i’m able to create the closest thing to a unified front which is education and transparency as you mentioned.

Treasury information hands down you’re the best videos I’d came through with all respect for everyone. I have a question that I haven’t got an answer for and I always ask it but I didn’t get a real answer for it Wish you can answer it: Q: is there any regulations over the brokers? Anyone has an authority over the brokers or they just can do whatever they want just because no one watching over them?
@SaintsPurgatory
@SaintsPurgatory Год назад
Not really any regulation on the brokers. There's been massive push for brokers to be transparent but they're fighting that tooth and nail.
