Binging all your videos in the past few weeks. I like the heaviness on the back from traditional continental. I find it easier to tuck my threads in on the back so nothing gets undone. Every time I see your record girls, the 5 or so blank stitches on the left side at the edge that aren't completed drives me bonkers! :P

Whew! Thank you for sorting out several things as I tackle my first HAED. Arthritis keeps me limited to 16 ct or larger, so they get big. However, stitching has turned out to be the best exercise for my hands...a win-win! Your videos a re a tremendous help to those of us who don't have access to another stitcher(s) to learn from. I just wanted to say that I cried when you told us about your vision problems - because I have pretty much the EXACT same issues!! It felt so good to have another stitcher with it. Oh, and I loved how you explained everything so pedsgogically.

It just seems like it would be more efficient than constantly switching colors. I’m working up the courage to start a HAED. I’m completely in love with The Fortune Teller, but I want to start with a mini first and do The Fortune Teller full size.
The story of your vision hit close for me. When I was in my early 30s, I had a spontaneously detached retina. It was fixed during an emergency surgery, but ended up detaching again 2 months later. So another surgery. Needless to say, I have vision in that eye, but it's far from great. Peripheral vision is decreased, and I have countless scotomas (black, blank spots) in that eye. I now have a rare type of ocular migraines, most likely from the band they used to keep my retina in place. Then I got a cataract from all the surgeries, which came with more issues. Since they were only replacing 1 lens, I now only have distance vision in that eye. We tried just 1 bifocal for that eye, but my brain couldn't adjust. All this to say, stitching has been challenging. I have to wear ridiculous flip up magnifying glasses, and sometimes have to use a magnifying light as well if stitching on anything smaller than 14 count. Can't stitch for too long or I get eye fatigue and strain, which triggers a migraine. It's been a long 5 years, and I'm still learning to live with the challenges, although greatful for the vision I do have. Thank you for the time you take in doing these videos. I'm trying to work up the courage to start my first full coverage, and you've helped me to embrace a "piss off" attitude when it comes to what others say I "should" do.
Thank you for your comments. I really enjoy "meeting" people and other stitchers through my videos. Full coverage Designs can be a little challenging but they are just 1 x at a time and just because the designers suggest smaller fabric counts you can certainly do them on much larger counts. I've seen Heaven & Earth Designs done on 14 count and 11 count although they are huge when finished but still look great.
We stitch and organize my floss the very same way. Love this video. I'm fairly new to Floss Tube. I'm Dee's Delights Stitcher. I'm going to watch all your videos next.
Great info. Thank you. I love my HAED. I have a couple more I want to do. After seeing the size of the regular print, I'm so glad I paid the extra $2-3 for the large print chart on mine. It's very easy to read. I think it's about 2/3 a regular page just basing it on the extra pages that only have a half or 1/3 of a page at the end of a row... but very good size for easy reading. I don't know if I could ever do parking. I have tried a few times. Maybe I'm not patient enough. Lol. Like you, I do cross country but I try to stay within a few blocks unless there are only a handful, then I go ahead and do them. I try to work in sections of color. At least it prevents the lines that I had on my first page which was all one color. I started just going a few extra spaces at random so they weren't all stopping in the same place after the first couple lines I noticed and that helped. I'm doing 18 Ct 2 over 2. I learned the loop method after starting and it does help tremendously. For 1 over 1 or when loop won't work, I'm now addicted to the diagonal pin stitch Vonna did a tutorial on. I don't know how I ever lived without that and the loop method... I've been stitching since the 80's and I learn something new every day! Flosstube is amazing. I was completely self taught and none of my friends ever stitched so it is awesome to learn so many new techniques. Thank you for your part in that! I did sign up to stitch a section on the Stitching George Washington project, and because my section is all dark colors, and the size of my section, I did buy the sulky silver thread to grid that with. (You can get it in any color, but silver is just the most common). Since we have the waiting game before hand they asked that we grid, so I will do it. Will be my first time. I have penciled in on occasion as I go, but this will be my first true gridded piece. Mostly so I know exactly how large a border I have to work with, etc. Talk about huge. Makes my full size HAED look like a small... I'm excited to start that project. Thanks again.. I truly enjoy all your videos Roxie

I just realized this was an older video... lol. I'm clearly behind, but it's still just as relevant. I've seen some of your newer ones. I didn't realize I had missed any. I meant to tell you tho, that I recently bought a quantum frame with my HAED in mind... it's too big for the frame 🙁. I'm sure I will use it in the future especially if I do another HAED and use smaller count fabric, but my 18 count with only a 2" border is too wide for the largest quantum bars. It is an awesome frame tho. Just too big for my other current WIPs. I will order smaller bars for it. In the meantime I'll stick with my qsnap. Thanks again

+Carlo Gammbino Hi. Thanks for watching. when I start in the corner of my piece I do it by simply measuring my fabric. I always leave a 3 inch border around the stitched area so I simply measure down 3 inches and in from the side 3 inches and that's where my first stitch goes.
Ok, question. If you're now stitching them cross country, do you still use a waste knot to start and finish your threads if you can't do a loop start? And, if so, where do you start your thread and end it?

I do have a question, when you switched from parking to cross country, do you then start and finish your threads or do you leave loose ends even when doing cross country if there is thread left after doing all stitches of a color in your chosen stitch area? I wasn't sure of that when I watched.
+Dawna Dalton When I do cross country I typically start and end my threads. The only threads I park or leave hanging are the ones needed to continue to the next page. Not sure if that makes sense. I'll try to explain it better in my next video.
There's a lot of companies offering full coverage designs. Heaven and Earth Designs, Tilton Crafts, Artecy, Gecko Rouge. Most of my full coverage pieces are from Heaven and Earth Designs (HAED)
Hi Pam - Great video! I did have a question... now that you are switching from column/row stitching and going into cross country over a page - how are you utilizing waste knots when you switch over? Are you still using them or switching to running floss under the back? Thanks!

I know this is from a few years back but I’m getting into cross stitching again so was looking for videos for tips and I found yours! I’m use to doing the cross stitch kits that you find in your craft stores so some of the terminology was a little lost on me since I’m still somewhat of a beginner :) I was mainly confused on the 1 over 1 vs 2 over 1 methods of stitching. Would you be able to explain what you mean please?
Welcome to my channel. Basically, 1 over 1 stitching means using 1 strand of floss to create your stitch over 1 strand of your fabric. Typically used on higher counts of fabric. 2 over 1 is when you stitch using 2 strands of floss to create your stitch over 1 strand of fabric. 2 over 2 would be 2 strands of floss to create your stitch over 2 strands of your fabric.
Great info. Can you tell me the name of the chart that is on the q-snap frame. And where did purchase it. Did you make the fabric cover on your q-snap, if not where did you purchase it.
Thanks for watching. Unfortunately the chart I think you're referring to is my Record Girls piece I stitched a couple years ago. It's a chart I created myself and isn't available for sale. The grime guard, i made myself as well but there are lots of people that make them to sell. Just do an Etsy search for grime guards.
+kellybirdsall76 It's called a grime guard. I make my own but there are several sellers on etsy and Facebook that sell them for different sized frames.
Rotation is up to you...you have to silence your parents saying “you have to finish coloring your page before moving on to the next”. I have many things going at the same time. Cross stitch, crochet, ink drawings, paper quilling, and clay sculpture.
Thank u for the video......I find it very cumbersome when using my 11x17 qsnap. I don’t have a stand therefore, I have to hold it. It is a haed so there is also a lot of fabric. Have u ever stitched without a stand with this size frame? Any tips for doing it? Thanks again! 🙂
I used to always just use my hoop or 11x11 q-snap. I mostly just held it or propped it against the arm of the chair. As for the excess fabric, I find those hair clips that have the claws are good to clamp the fabric together out of the way.
+Diana Jones Yes if I copy a design and enlarge it it 1 page will be bigger then 8x11. I just follow the grid lines to see where page 1 ends and page 2 starts.
When you do a big pattern like that where do you start do you start in the middle it doesn't matter which direction you go and I guess I was kind of wondering why do some people stitch on the other Side I am just been kind of checking around to see if I want to learn how to cross stitch
Most of my large full coverage pieces I tend to start in the top left corner and work my way across and down. Smaller pieces I still tend to start in the middle.

Thank you. It's not a chart that's available. It's a chart I created myself using Pic2Pat. It's actually fom a photo of home decor that used to hang in my bedroom as a child.
Why does it have so many threads hanging down do you use that many at once and I do see a lot of videos it to have them threads hanging down why are they there but I've never cross stitch but I've been watching videos on it and I watch how you feel of yours
The threads that are hanging down are "parked" in the next spot they are needed for a stitch. Instead of ending my thread at the end of each section I just park it until I come to that point in the chart and pick it up again.
