Whether you're painting your first or your forty thousandth gribbly beast for your Tyranid army, it doesn't have to be a chore to get them ready to chomp their way through the galaxy. Here's how to quickly churn out the little guys in your own hive fleet! These techniques work by swapping around colours, too, allowing you to quickly recreate the likes of Hive Fleet Kraken, Behemoth or others! READ MORE:

I’m following your paint scheme as it looks great! I’m taking a short cut by spraying with wraith bone at the start though - I have 180 gaunts to do! Before I start my production line, I’m trying to work out if it’s faster to spray, ink and dry brush the whole model, then do the red on the weapons and hooves separately. Advantage: dry brush can be really fast as there’s no red to avoid - disadvantage: the red becomes a separate paint and then ink, two stage process in itself.

You could save a little time by doing the spray, ink and dry brush, and then red with something like the Blood Angels Red Contrast. Not something that was there when I first did this, but it'd save having to ink and highlight those as well!

What I really appreciate here is you take the time to show how you fixed a mistake. Well done, sir! Well done, indeed!

There's a neat set of 5 'easy build' Termagants that I picked up for this video. They're only $10USD, so it's not a bad drop for something to just paint for fun. Your friendly local gaming store might even carry them a dollar or two cheaper! www.games-workshop.com/en-US/Tyranid-Termagants

Sonic Sledgehammer Studio I'm attempting to do the same. A lot of people I've spoken to don't even use washes 😱
@SonicSledgehammerStudio
@SonicSledgehammerStudio 6 лет назад
One thing I've learned is to assume nothing about what somebody ought to know, no matter what stage of practice they're at. I've learned some incredibly simple things quite by accident in just the last couple of months, and I forget on occasion just how much jargon we use when chatting with newcomers to the hobby - it can be daunting! Washes, though, should definitely be on everybody's must-have list!

Sonic Sledgehammer Studio yes defiantly, it's also surprising how many people don't watch warhammer tv and The duncan. I wish I had all these available to me 17 years ago I'd be Golden Deamon winner by the age of 15 haha

Very informative. I think I'm going to go with the Khorne Red for mine though. Mephiston was just a bit too bright
@SonicSledgehammerStudio
@SonicSledgehammerStudio 6 лет назад
Khorne Red does work really well for contrasting, and fits a little better with the darker carapace if that's your style. I'd definitely make sure to hit it with a little Agrax Earthshade, then!

Call me unpractical, but with my tyranids and skaven, I like to take my time painting every single model individually. With that said, I’ve been painting a dozen hormagaunts for over a year now, and I have about 30 unpainted clanrats...... at this pace I’ll be done by 2020.
@SonicSledgehammerStudio
@SonicSledgehammerStudio 6 лет назад
You're far braver than I! Honestly, it depends on what you want when the models hit the table. I'd wager that your figures look amazing by the time you're finished. :) Unpractical, maybe, but it's all a matter of taste! As long as you're enjoying painting, you can't be doing it wrong.

Just a short question i am a total noob in Painting. After primer i think its corax white ? You start wit a layer of screaming skull ? Why not with a Base paint ? I thought that the first paint is to be a base paint. Thanks a lot
@SonicSledgehammerStudio
@SonicSledgehammerStudio 6 лет назад
Not a bad question at all! Base paints get their name for being, well, bases. They're slightly thicker and have a stronger pigment, which makes them ideal for being the first colour on in most cases, but that doesn't mean they have to be. In some cases, I'll even use a Base paint for highlighting - a lot of my deep, dark reds have Mephiston Red as their final highlight! Screaming Skull is a very light colour, which usually doesn't cover well over a black or grey undercoat, but since we're working from white it's much easier to use. Since it's closer to the finish I want to achieve, I'll start with the brighter basecoat of Screaming Skull, even though it isn't literally a Base paint.

if you dry brush with a grey or brown, it gives a nice weathering
@Inconvenient_NPC

Hey bro, how many coats of Screaming Skull did you apply for this? Cheers
@SonicSledgehammerStudio
@SonicSledgehammerStudio 3 года назад
Just the one, you don't need to thin it out much over a white undercoat so it covers fairly well.

Hey! How would you go ahead and approach this today with contrast in mind?
@SonicSledgehammerStudio
@SonicSledgehammerStudio Год назад
To be totally honest, I wouldn't. This is still going to be a quicker method overall if you're painting in batches of 10 or more miniatures at a time.

Not a nid player but I love the models 😱 always thought they were cool as a kid but too hard to tackle with painting but now that I’m 20 I think I might give them a go for kill team. I’d love to see a raven guard tutorial just starting my first rg model, thinking for shrike I’ll use a cut up genestealer on the base, I wanna use your technique, what colour is nid blood? Blue, purple or green?

What is the name of the primer you use to make it white and does it make a difference if you use it and not
@SonicSledgehammerStudio
@SonicSledgehammerStudio 6 лет назад
I use Corax White in this video, but any white will do fine. All you need is a nice, bright basecoat so you can get the first couple of colours on without having to use a bunch of coats.

OOooo The tactical model grip yes, I remember that :D ~ But yeah this is a good one. Maybe it's just the way my brain works but the open, flatter space on this model really drives home the importance of layering and highlighting. Not that the others didn't, but this one just seems more visual
@SonicSledgehammerStudio
@SonicSledgehammerStudio 6 лет назад
The irony of the tactical grip is the fact it doesn't really steady the miniature when I'm drybrushing! For anything else, though, it's a brilliant bit of kit.
