Enjoyed the opening sequence of the Dance of the Hot Air Balloons! Beautiful shots of the eclipse also. Thanks for the technique lessons.

Great video Brent! Thanks for giving us a first hand account of doing such a timelapse and 'sunscape' photo. Unfortunately downunder we were not in the path to see it.

Love the 135mm but for the crescent Sun with the sunspot is my favourite :)

I liked the 135 mm but they were both very good. We had heavy clouds and rain here in WI. Another great video.

Thanks for the video. My attempt didn't go as well as yours did. I had a similar thought about more of a landscape shot than a black circle with an orange ring. But I now know where I will go and how I will setup the composition next time. The fall colors are under way in the Zuni Mtns. Got some awesome shots yesterday.

In Milwaukee, it rained heavily until just before first contact, then cloudy and drrizzle. I watched the livestream from Highpoint Scientific (in Albuquerque. They mentioned the balloons). An airliner transited the eclipsed sun about 3/4 way into it! What LUCK! I saw the eclipsed sun for about 15 seconds around the same time, so was a little lucky.

I think I'm with Camera Lady and like the 135mm shot the best. Nice images!! And I LOVE the timelapse! (That took some planning...) Folks on my end of the eclipse had a rough time with conditions at Crater Lake National Park (Oregon). However, I did get a shot of the eclipse reflecting its beautiful crescent in the lake just 3 minutes past Annularity. I checked with local astrophotographers and they said it was the "pinhole effect". So I got something a bit different but I'll take it under the cloudy conditions we had in Oregon!

Oh my gosh, I was there at the Vulcan volcano! If I had known you were there, I'd have said hi! Guess I'll need to start using Instagram. Moved in to Rio Rancho last year and I've been loving how photogenic this place is.

Brent, thanks for sharing your setup and processing of the eclipse. As always great photos. Well don. From SW Idaho we were in the 80% zone so I wasn't expecting to see much. Clouds were everywhere but it looked like maybe there was a slight break so I grabbed my camera and decided to make the best of the cloud cover and include it in the frame. With a 15 stop ND filter at 85mm I focused well right of the sun. Got clouds, a small sun and the eclipse in progress. It looks more like a crescent moon night scene but I didn't think I would get anything at all. Always like your videos, keep them coming.

Great recap!! I like your 135mm image. We had 16% coverage and thin clouds in my area. Naturally, a couple of thick could came through as maximum coverage happened. I kept it simple and snapped a couple zoomed in with the R7 and 100-400. I also tried holding the solar film filter in front of my phone but the reflections were ridiculous.

Well done! Educational, entertaining and inspiring as I get ready for the solar eclipse next spring. Can you post a link for the solar sheets you used in making your filter?

Love the balloon sequences. I think it's funny how we make the sun yellow to make it look right. But we always refer to the light we get from the sun as white light. Basically, because that is what it is. Apparently, we like to see the sun as yellow because the only time we can comfortably look directly at it is sunset and sunrise, where it's made yellow/red by the atmosphere. Aren't we funny like that? 😅
@tremaincheerful4189

Yeah, I don't mind the sun's image being white.

I shot the eclipse in New Mexico as well and it was great to experience live but yes not very exciting to photograph. I have used the eclipse photos to put into other landscape photos with the advisory that it is art not a "photo"

Eclipses are cool and all, but photographically I'd have had a ball with all those hot air balloons! Good stuff either way, I'd say that was worth the drive. Question, are you using the RF 1.4x TC with the 500mm, or an EF TC? Not sure how that works with the EF/RF adapter, since I know the RF TCs only fit certain lenses.
@BrentHall
@BrentHall 11 месяцев назад
Yeah, the balloons are always awesome. I'm using the EF TC.

Nice timelapse! I agree however, if you are not an astronomer with a giant telescope, eclipses tend to be nothing bergers.

Nice video, and images, and tips on processing. I am the developer of the app Solar Eclipse Timer which geolocates at your final observing position, calculates your contact, and then announces reminders of what to observe for at the eclipse and counts down to the contact times for accurate photography. I have also authored the best preparation book available, called "Eclipse Day 2024 and More." In addition, I have a RU-vid channel called Solar Eclipse Timer that has hours of eclipse preparation and photography educational content.
