Hi dear. You might as well stop putting the 3k into franc and put it directly into the bond every month. You might finish your house in the 5 years you will be saving in franc. I met my husband 2 years ago and got married last year. He had a 30 year bond and it was left with 21 years. We made a decision to just add 1k from last year Feb and it reduced the bond years to 14 years. This year from Feb, we will be putting in 10k monthly and in 3 years the bond will be done.

I think this is a great idea especially given the interest rates, it may happen that the interest on franc investment gets canceled by the bond interest

Great idea 💡 it could work, but I am already paying extra R1000 p/m on my bond and I do not want to commit more money to it per month. I prefer to build up my investment rather than to tie majority of my money to a property right now especially because there is a high likelihood of selling in a year’s time.

Renovate current house and rent out. Rent while looking for second property and use your current house as laverage for new house. The cycle will continue uzophaphama at house number 5😅

I have been toying with that idea but the money I pay on the property is higher than the rent in the complex, I would have to incur a loss if I rent it out. If I try to rent it out at price higher than what I am paying there is a likely of not retaining tenants as the other properties in the complex would be cheaper. When I bought this place it was never my forever home but a place I could call my own, but I also do not want to rush myself into any decision of whether to sell or to buy especially in this economy.

Also, you can put the money into the bond itself and you’ll pay it off faster than in a separate account. The bond has a nice interest rate as well. When you save in the bond you reduce the total accumulated interest. That’s why saving into the bond pays faster. What you can then do it activate a flexi reserve fund and make it accessible. You’ll have funds you can access but you still reduce the interest on the loan. It’s a win win situation

The day I start attacking my bond the intention will be to pay it off quicker. I don’t like the option of dipping into the access funds. Right now on my bond I have access funds because of the extra money I have been paying since I got the bond but don’t count that money as mine because the intention is to decrease the total years I get to pay for my bond. By dipping into these funds I delay my progress, that is why I don’t want to save with a bond.

Sorry sana, my intention is not to stress you fam 🥰💐. But to share the importance of planning beginning of the year because it helps during the year in knowing what you need to do to reach your goals. Do not look at my amount, look at the intention behind it, the approach to planning and also know things will nit always go our way but we continue to plan either way and do our best monthly. So if a month you can afford to save R500 that is where you are, embrace that and just make sure you are clear about what you are saving for and where you will be saving this money.

Hallo Jen and all friends. Anyway I started my year badly. My account got hacked and were purchases in USA and France. To be honest I am not sure how as I am very vigilant when comes to all that. Anyway I am still waiting for my bank to conclude the investigation to know whether they refunding me or not. Thank you Jen for this channel I have set my 2024 goals and I am comfortable that I am going to achieve them. Everything I do is budgeted for unless if it's emergency. Keep up the good work.

Hi! Vee, my heart goes out to you and I am so sorry for what happened to your account, no one deserves to loose their money in a way they do not understand. I pray the bank comes back with favourable news to refund you the money. At this point I really don’t know how we can avoid this scammers, I almost got scammed in December luckily this time I saw something was fishy and quickly blocked my card and notified the bank. I had to do my bank cards all over again. Second time in a year I have had to change my bank cards because of scammers. I am truly sorry sis’wami ❤️💐

😂😅you know what I have learned, if something is not a need but having it will save you money in a long run then finding means to get it is okay. Just make extremely sure that financially it makes sense. The numbers must number, I went back and forth with my decision to get a phone because I wanted to make sure I get a good deal.

Hi Jenn, how about using your bond as an emergency fund. That way you're killing interest but still have access to the excess payments you make.

I don’t like putting money in and out of my bond, also the financial institution I use for my bond you cannot easily access the money. I prefer to have liquidity rather than to tie money on things. When I have reached many of my goals financially maybe attacking my bond will be a priority, that is if I have not sold it by then.

As always very informative and practical. Don't you think you should instead put all your money into your bond retirement if the aim is to put the investment/savings in Franc and transferring it later. My thinking has always been pay the debt unless the interest on the debt is less than my rate of return.

Yes the interest on my bond is way less than interest I can get on Franc, I am already getting over 28% combined interest on my emergency fund with Franc. Also I prefer to have liquidity right now.

Why don't you save the money on the bond account?😢 Saving to pay debt? I think it's better to repay debts than saving unless the interest returns is greater than of home loan. 😮

My interest on my bond is not that bad, but also our financial goals are different. Investing for me is a priority right now, I have dealt with all my high interest debt and I am in a position to now invest. Using my investments to put in my bond later on is one of the options, especially because there is likelihood of selling within two years from now. I already pay extra on my bond since I started and right now I do not think for me putting money on my bond is a priority.

🤗I don’t want to disclose all my finances here. But I will give you a summary on how I am able to save this much. I don’t have a lot of small debts that I pay for per month, I got a new job in March so all that increase goes towards my savings. I keep my living expense low, I have not inflated my lifestyle over the past 2years instead I am cutting my cost.

I use investing apps for some of my investing goals, I use Franc Group which allows me to have two goals in one app and child account. I use Easy Equities for long term investments. The savings account I use one Tyme bank you can have 10 savings goal in one account. My approach to saving and investing is not to keep all my money in one pot thus helps me avoid touching money I am not supposed to touch.

It’s different from EE they invest it for you based on how you structured your investment strategy. They have Satrix top 40 and Money Market.

Why don’t you pay the R3000 directly to your bond, by doing so you’ll pay less on interest and finish the bond quicker

It’s not part of my goals to focus on my bond currently. Also my interest on my bond is way less than interest I get on my investment for example on my Franc investment I am currently getting over 28% interest combined. Putting that money into an investment makes more sense to me than to commit it to my bond. I would rather put in lump sums into my bond because I am already paying a R1000 extra every month.

Very interesting content, I thought you were saying you want to save up to R200k/R300k and then use the lump sum to pay off the mortgage. I might have misunderstood. Regarding the interest, I disagree; amortized interest and regular interest are distinct concepts and shouldn’t be compared directly. As an illustration, if you buy a property for R500k the total repayment of might be around +- R1.5m, the apparent normal interest appears to be around 200%. However, on paper they will say you are approved for 13,5% . Having said that, thank you for sharing this content. Everyone can tailor it to align with their individual goals.

Please I'm shouting for help I've invested with frank R5000 this month as big purchase into the allan market which is considered to be safer but is saying -5050-(100%) I've lost all my capital please help me find how has that happen in short space of a week all my capital gone
