@@tool46296 Rick has a good video on it but still if I'm decent 40% of the time off the deck I'm thrilled. I went to a Cobra rails hybrid and it is good for 220 yards so my 3 wood stays in the bag mainly.
As a brand new golfer. Of all the videos I’ve seen this is exactly what I needed. He talks about what determines his club selection and he explains the factors and risks and then decides. Very well put together and just fun to watch. Thank you for this video!!!
Hey Rick, watching your videos helped me rebuild my game after breaking my neck in a motorcycle accident. Thanks for being funny and a capable teacher. I got my first birdie after my accident because of your 7 iron chipping advice. Rolled it from about 20 yds.
Thanks guys, it's been a wild ride. Paralyzed to walking, to being able to swing. Still can't walk the whole course so I get a cart but it's pretty boss being able to play again.
@@tool46296 thanks. I am doing much better. Just watching Rick and Peter Finch and Matt Fryer and a bunch of others learning things to bring my game up to snuff. Learning that I can still play and hit balls about 200-220 despite being classified as disabled had been such a big lift for my spirit. Take joy in the little things like getting a good bounce and making a nice recovery had changed my game.
Damn brother. My dad and I ride Harley’s and this comment really hit home for me. Stay safe and always wear a helmet and gear kids. It’s not if but when you crash.
You should try imagining it. I imagine David Feherty doing on course commentary like he did in the Tiger Woods game when I am playing. It helps me focus in on every shot. I bet Imaginary Rick would do the same.
Hey Rick, I had my first five golf clubs when I was about five years old, played a little in junior high and high school then gave the game up for a variety of reasons. Now at 60 I’m joining a local CC. For the first time in my life I’ve purchased a set of clubs tailored to my age, size, strength etc. Landed on the Ping 425’s with steel shafts. That said, I have been perusing the Internet for instruction and find myself enjoying your channel above all others. Your no-nonsense, positive style, always with a smile on your face, keeps me coming back for more. I believe your goal is to sincerely help those of us out there from beginner to seasoned scratch golfer. Thank you for that! Keep up the good work!
These are actually my favorite style of video. Learning what you are thinking and feeling with each shot really helps a new player! Keep these coming!!!!
I really like these kind of videos, Rick. This is exactly what I’m doing with my 15 yr old son. I’m having him talk through his round, telling me the risk/reward with each shot. Having him tell me WHY he is choosing that club or that shot. Being 15 lack of concentration is an issue. It has helped him tremendously and he’s starting to consistently score in the mid 70’s. Keep up the great work! We love watching.
I'm late to the party, but I wish there were more content like this available on course management and shot strategy. Over time I've improved my physical skill, but when I starting finding content like this my scores lowered by just making better mental decisions. Thanks for the content!
Hey Rick! I absolutely love your thought processes and golf course walkthroughs. If I may make a suggestion, it would be super helpful if you could find map of the specific hole, and perhaps add it to beginning of when you're approaching a new hole, so we can visualize in our heads what you're talking us through. Enjoying the videos so far :)
Watching him top that second shot and observing the reaction (e.g. “That’s golf 🤷🏻♂️”) made me feel so much better. My golf game is struggled with swing anxiety lol! Thanks man I’ll keep watching!
notformebeaky see that’s weird I find peter finchs channel more fun and ricks more informative. Everybody has there own opinions. I would love if they did this with a few other you tubers as well
I really enjoy these videos where you talk us through your choices and some of the things to be aware of, especially wet conditions. I appreciate you talking through club selections. Great video!
Awesome video. I’m an absolute beginner so this video was helpful in showing someone like me step by step how you play each hole and what clubs you use in different situations.
Thank you Rick. As relative newbies to golf, my wife & I loved watching the video with your honest & interesting comments. Helps us relax & enjoy the game more.
How I Play Golf: Have an extra ball in your pocket. A few tees, your ball marker, and your divot tool. That way you won’t have to run like an idiot back to your golf cart and get things.Cell phone, wallet and keys IN THE GOLF BAG! Always position the cart or your golf bag/pull cart adjacent or forward of where you tee off/your shot. NEVER WALK/RUN BACKWARDS! Point of golf is to go forwards. Group behind you are gonna think you don’t know what your doing and look stupid! Always be aware of where the wind is going. Emphasize your pre-shot routine. Before your shot take a deep breath and as you set up exhale. Loosens you up. Play at a reasonable pace. On your approach shot if you miss the green take your wedge AND PUTTER! Repair divot mark closest to your ball on the green. Lay your wedges on top of laid flag sticks or the frindge of the green on the direction of your golf cart or golf bag, that way you won’t forget it. If you keep bumping into a slow playing playing group in front you, after the third time asked them politely if you can play through or if it’s another single/double ask if you can join them. Take your own water/beer. Enjoy the game! Have fun!
Sounds a bit anal to me to have so much commitment and negative feelings (That´s what I read between the lines from some of your "rules"). The ending however is perfect (not that I disagree with most of the other stuff, just don´t care about most of the things that clearly eating you every time you meet that stuff.) The ending: "Enjoy the game! Have fun!" Perfect. Let's settle for that, regardless of the other stuff is perfect or not, okay?! 👍😊
@@jeddszewach3182 Don't be running back to your cart for stuff. Be prepared, basically is what he's saying. That way your not holding up the guys you're playing with, and anyone that may be playing behind you. Simple golf etiquette.
Rick, these “how I play golf” are really super videos, for people like me who are just starting out with golf. Just seeing the game through the eyes of a PGA coach on a real course in real life does give a super insight into the game and the tactics that can give you an edge and also make the game so much more enjoyable. Thanks for making them and sincerely hope you will do more.
I do like this type of video Rick. It shows how I should be thinking while on the course. I would like to see some competitions again with Pete, Matt and Carter again as well. Keep up the great work!!
I really do hope you see this. You helped me fix my grip and helped my game out tremendously. I used to have all fingers on the club but now I do overlapping like you suggested (or interlock) and boy did that change everything. It’s only my 5th time golfing but I’m 23 and I went golfing with my boss and 2 of his friends who are all over the age of 45 and I beat my boss by 1 stroke. Granted he probably wasn’t really trying his hardest but we were out there having fun keeping real score. Now I can’t stop watching your videos and I just wanted to say THANK YOU for all that you do on RU-vid and outside
I wanna know how people play here in Bama when it’s 90+ degrees with 100% humidity. 2 holes and my hands and arms are so sweaty I can’t barely keep the clubs in my hands.
I play in Dubai and it gets humid here. Just gotta wear decent clothes for it Nike dry fit does it for me and just have something to wipe the sweat off.
Get you some FootJoy RainGrip gloves. The wetter they get, the more grip they have. I sweat A LOT, and those gloves are incredible. I used to change gloves at least twice during a round. Now I never have to take them off.
Hi Rick, I started playing golf again 2 months ago after not playing since I was 14 (im 30 now). I really had trouble with irons at first and it was causing me to play +12 on a 9 hole course! But after watching your videos on irons and course mangement i have got it down to +6 today! So thank you very much and keep it up
This is the perfect format for me. I have only been playing about a year and 1/2 so I'm still trying to get a handle on the basic way to hit a ball. The way you explain it is clear and looks easy to follow. So many other people are so technical - your shoulder moves here, your knees goes in then lift it, your club points there......seriously???? please continue with this type of video it is so helpful
Hey Rick love the channel. Thought id let you know i havnt played golf in almost three years due to a hip problem. Having just had a replacement 6 weeks ago im looking forward to getting back out there but not sure what the game is going to be like as i was a single figure golfer. Just wondering have you any tips for me starting back.
I keep topping woods on the fairway lately. So glad you left that shot in the video. It means a lot that you did. Proves you’re only human and we all do it. Great video Rick TY ⛳️🏌️♂️👍
Lol don’t mistake this as me making fun of him or knocking him. Even the pros on the tour who play constantly mis hit a shot from time to time.. it was the timing of it lol
Just like his Birdie putt... "For birdie..." Putt............Lipout......... *awkward silence* "Oh my god... hahahahahah!" Only on a Rick Shiels video!
Watching you play and figure in your thinking is extremely helpful! This way we see shots that are on hillsides and other hazards that you don’t find in a lesson. Keep them coming!
I've being thinking about taking up golf for a while, these videos are a great introduction into the mysteries of the game. Love the format, very pleasurable to watch.
Thanks for the honesty Rick. Most other professionals would have used the magic of editing to make them look better. Glad to see you aren't afraid to use the bump and run as a pro!
Rick. I love your videos. They're like watching an "everyman" golf. You're better than an everyman, but you're relatable. I really enjoyed this video. It was like I was golfing with you and learning from you. Thank you very much!
Great video Rick. Nice to hear you think out loud through your strokes. You have an incredible collection of videos, all of which have benefited me in some way. Thank you for putting this together!
I loved that video. So genuine, so real. It actually serves a greater cause - it shows to all of us the amateurs, that even the pros can make a mistake, even the pros can screw up a perfect shot, and that regardless of who you are, you can hit in a way that you didn't expect to. Thank you for this video. It is greatly appreciated.
Good to see you show it how it is. Plenty of us can hit the ball but not perfectly every time. Great to see that even the pros can mess up a shot and it makes me realise I can’t expect every shot to be perfect. Well done.
I enjoy your couching, i have improved my game. When i started back in December i hit a 127. Yesterday 09-07-20,i hit a 93 with an improved 23.1 handicap. Thank u Rick.....
I'm new at golf Rick and have lots to learn. I have not taken any lessons, but maybe I should. I love your positiveness, which I assume is a must in golf. Anyway, I learned a lot watching you, and you make it look so easy. Thanks you.
Thank you for leaving in the topped 3 wood. In all seriousness that is so encouraging to this discouraged golfer. Seeing how positivity you handled it was fantastic.
Rick, thank you brother for your honesty and commitment to helping us wannabes to stay in the game! Your instruction is very usable..."spot on" as you would say in the UK! Keep up the good work!
For sure my favorite type of video. Super Helpful. I love you’re videos. I watch them everyday. Even the ones I’ve already seen. Super stoked to have found you.
