This video is merely a showcase of how I create cut clips from motion-capture animations to reduce pose count for prototyping motion matching in Unreal. I use Cascadeur, Motorica, and my own custom plugin.

i mean how you maked that script on Command, is it using python?

@@rizkyalhaqnst5190, yeah, the scripts were all done in Python using the Cascadeur API. Currently, the Cascadeur API seems a bit challenging to use due to the limited examples available, so I can't do everything I want to (yet) regarding curve generation.

I am getting into Motion matching and unreal engine its really nice to see people work on different ideas cause i kinda cant and XD its fun watching them made by others. may i get any resources to how you have used Motorica and unreal engine to generate the animations?

I don't have any resources I've authored, but there are some resources in the Discord server of Motorica. Their team is working to create a dance-card generator. Though I created my own (somewhat hacky) version in Cascadeur, I had the privilege of testing Motorica's version in its early stages, for which I provided feedback. If you're not already in their server, I encourage you to join that server, that way you can stay up to date on what is being released.

Thank you for this! How would I go about learning motion matching? For example, I have not idea which animations I would need to create for my character to set hte animations database. Also, how would this intergrate with blended animations like carrying weapons, crouching and more? Thx!

There isn't a great resource yet on how to implement Epic's motion-matching tech, but Epic will be releasing a demo in a few months that promises to provide an example setup along with 500 animations made specifically for motion matching. As for what I know currently, I've learned it mostly from GDC talks, particularly the GDC talk by Naughty Dog. From what I remember, Naughty Dog used motion matching with cut clips to reduce pose repetition together with a state-machine-like setup to reduce the database size that needs to be searched. Regarding carrying weapons, that can be accomplished as overlays, for example, or you can have a whole set of animations specific to that animation.

@ryanmuoio6569 Thanks for the in depth reply mate! I think what also kinda worries me is how would we need to adapt from what they introduced in Lyra animations using the animation layers to the motion matching. From what I understood from theor talk this GDC, it seems like motion matching would be de facto system for animations. What do you think? Also, regarding GDC talks: did you pay for the vault access and if so, is it worth it? Thinking of buying it.

@@RomanTimm , motion matching can be used together with any other animation-implementation techniques currently used. The node will output a pose like any other animation player. Basically, we're just getting another (powerful) tool in our animation-implementation tool box. I found that particular GDC talk from Naughty Dog on a random Chinese website. 😅 But all other GDC talks I have watched are those I have found on RU-vid. I have considered purchasing Vault access, but it's a bit expensive.
