Good video! Many preppers overlook the obvious regarding lighting. Most of us have cordless power tools. The batteries from those tools can be attached to torch's and lanterns. Most of the power tool manufacturers (dewalt makita etc) have a light / torch attachments for their power pack / batteries. Much safer than propane / gas lanterns when you have children.

Im always trying to have stuff for these same situations. I was just looking at those small lanterns at Wal Mart. Also I have a couple crank Radios!!!! Keep at least one of those emergency CB radio units just incase!!! I would like to invest in a generator fot sure. And those backpack stoves work great and I always have a few mess kits laying around. Great video and keep ones like this coming!!!! Thanks again Atco!

Hi Josh - I'm lovin' these solar power stations. Quiet! But, limited to how long the battery will live. As I shown on my video, I have a Jackery 500 and it gives me 6-8 hours with big lights in the living room and a 19" TV to wait for the power to come on. Of course, a long time without power, 6-8 hours ain't much if you got a 3 day or longer power out. Fortunately they don't come too often, but I have had 2 of those since I've lived here. I didn't show on this video, but I have another power station similar to the Jackery, so I can double my time with the TV (had a video once about my EcoFlow River unit). Still, nothing beats a 2000 watt generator. Still got a way to go to get my on just a solar generator. But times are changing quick. I am trying to sell off a lot of my stuff in order to buy a bigger power station. Haven't found the unit that is worth it to me so far. Got new units coming early in 2020. Maybe in 4-6 mos I'll have another video out about 'em. See ya -- Atco

Hi AT, hmmm, no radios? Your power pack can power up the wifi if the internet is working. It can also power up radio, TV and LED lights. Another LED lantern is good in the potty room. I have my big gen set up for my boiler, freezer, fridge, kitchen lights / microwave, and fans. Um gonna convert it to propane, plenty gas on neighbor's BBQs in an emergency. lol Beware, Mr Heaters can deplete oxygen, use near a fireplace or basement to keep pipe from freezing. Connect your furnace on same line as deep freeze, else empty water pipe to lowest point. Um getting a large solar with 100 AH SLA or li-ion battery. Good to be prepaired like a boy scout. Plus double duty, you can use prepper stuff for CAMPING too.

Well Don, if there's any of my subscribers that wouldn't already prepared for power outs is you! With all the grid getting so old, I'd expect brown outs and black outs coming in the future. The propane heaters as I shown on my video, does have an oxygen sensor and will turn off if it shows a problem. I didn't go into things that everyone will already have like a radio. Didn't go thru food either. That again would be things already thought about (gotta have our snacks, huh?). Oh well, maybe the video will make some people to think about being prepared for brown/black outs. You never know. See ya -- Atco

I have that same 2000 watt generator. Remember to add gas stabilizer to it and run it at least 15 minutes a month.

Hi Jim - Yeah, solar is great but for a long spell of power outage, the old gas generator is the best. Great to have both though. But, like you know, you gotta keep those generators running. I have two gas generators and run them 15 min every quarter. I've also found the best stabilizer to keep the ethanol separating is SeaFoam. It's a bit costly, but seems to work better than others. If you only use the generator on emergencies, can't go wrong buying 100% gas. I have a gallon of it to use on my snowblower. A gallon in a can cost about $25, but 100% gas can store up to 5 years. During the season I use a lot of gas on the tractor. I buy regular gas but add SeaFoam in it all the time. -- Atco

Oh dear, what a horrible prospect! I wonder if those people in California were prepared for the PG&E outage!

I think it's going to be a normal event soon. Brown out or Power out, even for 2-4 hours, is something people should be prepared. I don't worry about the world falling apart, but I've had power problems since I've lived in my community so I expect more as the grid keeps getting older. Guess I'm more prepared then most. At least, the old Victrola with it's spring will always bring us out with some music without any power, huh (lol)? See ya -- Atco

Good job.You forgot the snacks in case of an emergency. I have an emergency back-pack in case I have to bug out.

Hi Elaine - Yep, don't need to have much of a back up lithium power around if nothing but to charge your cell phone, Kindle and Laptop during a power out. Those are well under $200. See ya -- Atco

Hwy Atco. Is Little Girl still with you today? :) If so, how is she doing? :)

Hi Mark, so nice of you to bring up the Little Girl! Yeah, she's fine. She's 10 years old right now. Very healthy, but has lost some energy over the years. I do most of my videos in the basement and she doesn't like going down the stairs anymore. So, unless I carry her down, not too many times she shows up when I'm doing a video. Thanks again for the comment. See ya Mark -- Atco

I once went a week with no power in the hottest part of Summer/I had to get battery powered fans

Hi Jay - Yeah, I've gone twice with 3 days power out. 12 hours, probably a dozen since I've lived here. Not fun. These lithium power stations are really cool, but still more likely good to get you thru 12 hours at best. From there on, if you wish to feel comfortable they've got a way to go to beat a gas generator. That's where I am now having both. The solar generators or so hot today! Probably too many companies are throwing one out that can't really do what they say they can. Most can't. So, just gotta keep an eye on what's the best. I've got one 500wh little power pack (Jackery 500) and a 400wh one (EcoFlow River). Those I do use quite often where I buy and sell electronics that I can test anywhere. I'd like to have a 1000wh+ to keep in the house for emergency that makes me feel as a good buy. So far, not. Maybe in a few months will show up, we'll see. Good to hear from you! You've been with me for a long time, thanks buddy! See ya -- Atco

Hi Acto , never had power outage in Germany since the last 70 years. Why you have so often power outages in USA ?? Are the power lines outdoor ?
@atco21117
@atco21117 4 года назад
Hi Juergen - Two issues. The USA Grid is so old, and almost running at full power all the time. One hard loss, and the grid can be closed off for quite some time. But my problem is worse than most. I live in the country and must be in the end of the line. Funny, there are two electric power companies that service in my area. Everyone on my street have 4 acres+ in their property,, so quite often the houses are part away from each. On one side if my street my electric is service out of Pennsylvania. One the other side is serviced by Baltimore Maryland. I lose my service of 4 hours or more 3 or 4 times a year. The other side of the street only get hit once a year. Hate seeing their houses lighten up when our side is dark. The Pennsylvania company uses coal to run, Baltimore uses oil. My average monthly bill is around $145. My neighbor across the street is billed average $250/mo. So, guess there is a plus and minus to both. See ya -- Atco
