Max's film - • BOOKSTORES: How to Rea...
Hey guys!! In this video I'm going to be talking about my journey to reading more books. It's a journey I've been on for a while, and honestly, have been failing quite spectacularly at for a while. So welcome to How I read more books (after failing for 4 years). These are 6 tips to build a reading habit, they're some of my favorite in the game, and are, in reality, practical and simple to implement in your lives.
First things first, you should read what you relate to. It's so strange to hear people advocating for reading more without specifying WHAT you should actually read. Pick a genre, pick a domain that genuinely interests you before jumping into an ocean of pages with no direction. After that, just trust that your curiosity will guide you, and you will find yourselves relating and investing your time into books that provide you a deeper insight into fields you love. Also, we're a little selfish sometimes, and we like books we can relate to or draw real value from, so try that out maybe?
Second, is a method author of Atomic Habits James Clear calls Habit Stacking. If you've already developed one habit, it's much easier to club reading alongside that habit to follow through with it more consistently - since you're already mentally committed to doing that one habit.
Third, you should know yourself. I can't stress this enough, reading doesn't work the same for everyone. Audiobooks like Audible & Podcasts just didn't work for me because I couldn't retain any of the information I listened to. Similarly, I now read first thing in the morning because I know that reading isn't my biggest priority, so the sooner I get it out of the way the better! Lastly, it's important you figure out your Analog to Technology ratio, and how you would like to go through a book.
Fourth up is Habit Tracking, very simple, very intuitive, have a framework that can hold you accountable and a framework that you can use to check the progress you're making on these habits. Lastly, distinguish between reading and studying. Note taking is definitely important when it comes to reading, but don't let anyone tell you it's more important than reading for the joy of reading. If you look at a book as a task from the get go, you're going to be in trouble.

The knife of never letting go by Patrick Ness its themes are far reaching and everyone can connect to it in some way. It is a book about coming of age, adventure, friendship, suspense and is a roller-coaster of a ride! Suspense and thriller are like my daily dose of serotonin. I love to ponder of myself as Nancy drew even if it’s for hours while I am reading. Iwould really love to dive into this book. Btw really love your channel. Shaurya supremacy!!!!!

Also, I had a book review to submit to college last month as a project, I submitted one on ikigai on the basis of other peoples review because I hadn't read it myself but it really caught my eye. "Conversational Hypnosis Mastery" by Bryan Westra. I chose this book because I'm not an EXCELLENT communicator, yet , I don't like to have a lot of talks (in person)with people if I know it won't be a lot valuable but still I'd like to know the art of human manipulation and exploit the vulnerabilities in this social system. I'm trying to build the best of myself and I think Communication skills would add a lot of value to it.

Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less by Greg McKeown. I want to read this book because there is a quote from this from this book that says "It's about what matters most to you in life. it's not about less. it's about essential things, essential relationships, essential living. Most of the stuff that is going on is not vital. we sometimes forget that we have a choice." And this stuck with me.

"Atomic habits" is the one I would really want to read .. The review and learning that I have heard and seen really pin my brain to read it knowing how the pandemic has affected our habits and procrastination has walked it way through it . I would really want to explore different book genre. And above all a book from the person who inspire would be an add on to all my excitement. By the way your recommendations of "how to build a better vocabulary " has added on to my read currently reading it and learning .

‘Kafka on the Shore’ by Haruki Murakami! I would want to read this book because I have heard and read about how Murakami writes his books in a very different style. And his style of narration requires a person to put out a lot of thought process into work because of how confusing it can be. And I think, I’m up for this difficult reading experience because I’ve always read book which were too straight forward. This time, I want to try something new. . . Also, the introduction couldn’t get any more relatable!😫 Amazing video, Shaurya!!!💙💙

When We Were Orphans, by Kazuo Ishiguro. Ishiguro's known for his historical narratives that are intriguing and introspective, and leave you either stunned or wanting more. As someone who's primary genre of focus has been sci-fi and young adult, Ishiguro's complex literature is something I would love to dive into :)) Also, Shaurya, I have a suggestion for someone you can interview for one of your next videos: King Siddarth. I follow his RU-vid channel as well, and you guys seem to have a lot of common interests (entrepreneurship, design and business). He has given several talks on whether or not going to college really helps, and I think his would be a pretty fresh perspective for your audience! I wish I had an emotional reason why I wanted this book but the truth is, I loved Keefe's previous book called Say Nothing on the Northern Ireland Troubles and it's vivid, fast-paced, crisp language. It's a book that somehow got me out of my awful reading slump during the pandemic so now I want to try more stuff by the author. Kudos on the great video though! Will definitely try some of your tips :)

@@OOPOO-np5ej It wasn't worth my time so I try to help others save theirs by not recommending it. The perspectives of a highly privileged first world man was not something I could relate to. Had it been fiction, or written differently with genuine concerns and ideas, I might have not considered it a sick book. Also, I firmly believe that beginners should read fiction if they want to develop a reading habit. I recommend Yuval Noah Harrari's books for non-fiction. But I feel books like the subtle art barely teach us anything. Yes, they sometimes state the obvious or mention things a person could relate to. And may trigger something sometime but it really doesn't stay. But fiction, I feel it teaches you a lot more, triggers your thought process, develops compassion and empathy, and stays with you. (wow I'm really going out of my way to prevent people from reading the subtle art 😅)

David and Goliath: underdogs, misfits and the art of battling giants. I was really intrigued by its theme that you told in your Yale essay video (loved your essays btw). It seemed that this book really moved you because you were naming your course after it. that's it.

i lost it at "you can snort the cover" what a MOOD 😹💀 Also Shaurya I love your videos! I definitely think they're some of the most unique I have seen in the realm of study/productivity channels... HOWEVER. The little flashy thing in your transition cards kinda gives me headaches (and might be certain triggers for some people) so I would appreciate if you look into that!

Leadership is one of the most challenging things you can ever think about and I myself have experienced that in the past 8 months. Did some mistakes, but glad I learned from them. I would like to read Extreme Ownership- How Navy Seals The Win. Jocko Willink Just bursts you with energy whenever you listen to him. That guy no doubt is a combo pack of all the top leadership skills you can ever imagine of. Reading that book would be completely insane for me!!

Atomic Habits: Since this COVID-19 stuff happened, I've been procrastinating on studying and have spent all of my time on watching videos on RU-vid related to very interesting study related topics which were of course not related to "11th standard CBSE Syllabus" but were about the fields I'm passionate about. This made me lag behind in the 11th standard and now I'm in 12th and the huge backlog terrifies me so much that my life has become stagnant like a pond. I was in the merit list in 10th Board and I am shocked how this whole year and a half got ruined. I want to read this book but unfortunately, this is a too expensive "non-syllabus related book" for my parents to buy so I would be really grateful to you Shaurya if I win this book in the giveaway. You are one of the best productivity and motivational RU-vidrs on the internet who have encouraged me to stand up and start breaking up that backlog rather than sitting and doing nothing to make it even worse. I'm so glad that I've come up to your channel since very beginning and have watched almost every video of yours. Thank You Very Much! Shubham Chandravanshi

Hey Shaurya! I absolutely love reading books, because of all the good that I can imbibe from them. However, being an 11th grader, I don't really find enough time to read as much as I'd like to. Getting these tips from you is an absolute help to me, and I'm sure I'll be able to get on track with reading soon. Thank you so much for putting your efforts and time into this amazing video! I'm glad to have watched it, and I'm looking forward to more of such amazing content from your channel! Also, thank you so much for doing a giveaway! I'd like to give it a chance, even though the odds of me getting a book from you are very less. Death; An Inside Story by Sadhguru is a book that explores death, talking about which is a taboo in various societies around the world. I personally write and publish poetry and stories, and I've had a fascination with writing about death lately. I've written a couple of epitaphs and a eulogy, and I've gifted them to my friends on their birthdays (I know it's pretty weird, but can't help it, 'cause I'm a weirdo). I provided them with a sense of inexistence on the day they celebrate their existence in this world, which I think is a beautiful irony. I'd love to read this book by Sadhguru (I love listening to his spiritual talks) because death is a topic that I'd like to destigmatize. I'd be really glad if you give me this opportunity. Also, let me know if you'd like to read any of my writing. I'd be more than happy to share it with you! Thank you again! You're an amazing person! Keep on inspiring and motivating people! With love from, Kamya 😊

MANY LIVES, MANY MASTERS -It's such an insightful book about how Dr. Weiss' patient started recalling her traumatic past life experiences when he hypnotized her and it just teaches you about how our past lives affect us and I'm really curious about it -Two of the people whom I really admire a lot (my fav teacher n my friend) have also read this book and they found it really impactful! And if a book leaves an impact on you, then uk it's worth everything :) -Plus it would be so cool to receive something from you Shaurya! 😁 It would honestly make the book much more exciting and special for me!! 😭💙
