I have anxiety due to PTSD, and I found that similar to what Ruby was saying is, that turning small moments into something special helped me a lot. For example, I started nature journaling, writing down any changes in nature I encountered during any time spent outside, and that controls my rummaging thoughts by a lot. It also slows me down, and makes me pay attention to the beauty I often ignore. And I live in the middle of Las Vegas, not the most beautiful town to begin with, lol. Just a little idea. Blessings and sending you a gentle hug.

Start small and be gentle with yourself during this time. Set easy daily goals ie writing a single line in your journal, making yourself a meal or snack. Be kind and patient

What helped me was going to Mass in the Catholic Church and having a spiritual guide, the parish priest.... Courage!

I totally agree! I love the idea of printing pictures from a mood board that can go into a journal and written about. And the idea of printing passages from different sources that bring a certain mood or mindset around them and binding them together. She is totally correct in saying that attentiveness to daily activities can bring them into a higher level of significance. Great tips Ruby!

I was just thinking that I’m probably too old to be able to romanticize my life, and wondering, how can I do that? Thank you for the ideas you presented here, because that providesa place to start. Also, I hope you won’t be offended by this, because I’m only saying this because I’m concerned about you. It doesn’t seem to me that you have any religious beliefs. Does that mean that you are agnostic or atheist? As intelligent, accomplished and caring as you are, I hope that you can come to believe in the Creator of the universe, who is God. I know that you love nature, but don’t you believe that someone created all of this? God didn’t create a perfect world for us, because that perfect world is with him in heaven. The purpose of this life is to prepare us for that. I am a Christian who converted to the Roman Catholic Church in 2010 after belonging to the United Methodist church for most of my life. In 2008 my mother passed away, and I was searching for something more than the United Methodist Church had to offer; that is, I was searching for the whole truth, not just part of it. I’m just hoping that you can come to know the love of Jesus Christ as our savior. There have been many great intellectuals who were strong Christians, including Albert Einstein and C. S. Lewis, for example.

romantisizing your life just means romantisizing everything about life, good and bad.

@@maneskinnnnn7190 why would anyone want to romanticize the deep rooted injustice, war, terror and the horrendous suffering of others, upon which the morw privileged are able to enjoy their secure daily life (and how could anyone do that?)

@@arie1578 Would you tell someone who's born with a terminal illness that their life isn't beautiful just because they're ill, and that therefore they shouldn't romantize their life? If so, who are you to tell someone who is in an unprivileged position that their life isn't beautiful and that therefore, they shouldn't romantize it. It's not illness, war or injustice that you romantize, it's they way you experience your life that makes it, even in those horrible circumstances, beautiful. I think that's what the previous comment meant.

@@arie1578 I’m talking about romanticising our own lives, daily struggles. There will always be suffering in the world, our minds can make our lives a hell. I suffer from severe ocd and depression however romanticising things, especially very sad days helps me cope a bit better and takes away some of the emptiness. Life is full of unfairness and suffering and different struggles. Animals are suffering , humans are suffering, people are suffering from mental health crisis. All we can do is focus on what we can change and how we can make our own lives a bit more bareable
