What about the holes to those pipes.. can critters get in through those?
@TheHomeImprovementChannel
@TheHomeImprovementChannel Год назад
Critters can find their way through just about any little tiny hole that exists! Usually all anybody ever does is what I've shown in the video, but you could always spray foam first and use caulk and/ or the duct seal after to make it look a little nicer. I don't like exposed spray foam.. it looks terrible after a while.

What are some other filling solutions for the small cable wire

Caulk is good. If you can match the caulk to the color of the siding that's even better. I don't like to use spray foam. It works well to make a seal but it turns pretty ugly after being in the weather for a few months. I suppose you can paint it and it'll help with that. Then of course the duct seal works well too...

@@msoles30 Yes you can. However I would read the label to make sure there aren't any warnings about that. I doubt it, but just a precaution.

Hi, sir, i'm hoping you can advise me as i'm desperate. My situation is, that approx. 30-foot length of garden-hose is draining from my basement dehumidifier, and draining via a drill-hole to exterior concrete slab. Any animal or human can potentially give a yank from outside, and my dehumidifier would crash down! Also insects might enter thru gaps on perimeter of the hose! Note: I just bought a 2.8oz tube of GE Advanced Silicone but how do i use it in this situation? No tools came with it. Please can you help me?

HI Minni... I tried looking on the DSL forum and couldn't find your post. Do you have access to FB? You should be able to upload your question/ images to my other channels page. It's under "Take a Bath Productions". Thank you. From your description here, I'm not sure how to advise yet.

@@TheHomeImprovementChannel So in my comment on your channel - did you see my link to the thread plus photos? Can you please advise which parts you would buy in my situation, and where to obtain them? Because i was confused by their responses. I don't understand why nobody wants to help. Is it because the parts aren't easily available? Can you believe I couldn't find even one video (for those with no sump pumps or drains) showing how to properly construct drainage for a gravity-hose via a basement wall, such as for dehumidifer and for draining water boiler?

What about the wall sheathing and housewrap?

Its under the siding...

Sorry, I should have been more specific. If I have an ugly circular hole in the siding for something a previous owner added, is it sufficient to do what you did in this vid, or should I remove the siding and flash the penetration through the housewrap? @@TheHomeImprovementChannel

@@Rew123 I'm not a pro but I think you are right, you have to remove the siding and seal the sheathing and house wrap (if it's not zip board instead of a house wrap). I've done as the video shows in the past but now that I've had to make some sheathing and siding repairs and have watched more videos on Zip board penetration sealing, it seems necessary and I'm going to go back and fix it. Otherwise any water that gets behind your siding will easily make it inside your walls.

Actually that Duct Seal is rated for interior, not exterior! Although it usually will survive exterior applications.

When I worked for an HVAC company we used it all the time where the pipes and electric go into the house. Never had any issues with it outside.. 😊
