I bought one and hooked it to 36V 15A smps.very good sound.my smps goes off of if I power on with the amp. It works fine if I use a switch to connect the amp after smps power on. Very clear output. Feels like about 150 amps per channel with 36 V.

Thanks for this feedback! If the amp is trying to amplify a signal when it is turned on - it will be asking for a certain amount of power. When a switching power supply turns on - it is trying to provide that 'constant power' but as the input voltage is coming up - that is a bunch of current. So, it is better to let the power supply come up - so that it can provide that constant power and not over current;)

Nice video. Most of your viewers are probably asking "Who is Jimmy Buffet?" Anyway, it was a little surprising to see the phase shift between the two outputs, but it's consistent with +/-20% capacitors and inductors. Good to know for those of us using these amplifiers for other applications!

Eddie, build yourself a little notch filter to attenuate the switching freq of class D. 1000ohm from amplifier output and .33mH - 365pf (am radio tuning cap) series notch to probe ground. Those values will tune around 500kHz ~Q=1. Extra 20-30dB loss with a wide enough null to accommodate a few percent shift in frequency under load. Does the 403 have analog lowpass filters on it's inputs ? If not, the switching freq. of the class D and the analyzer's sampling freq. will mix and cause intermod that probably will drop back into audio band. edit: AES17 is the filter spec for measuring class D amps. Don't quote me, 22kHz 'brick wall' 18 or 24dB/oct with some notches(?). It was written at a time when 100kHz was fast for class D, so not always necessary with modern designs. A simple RLC usually is sufficient; worst case a 12dB/oct lowpass and an RLC notch.... Okawa Electric Design has a nice RLC notch simulator online; and other filters. Stock LC on the amplifier is NEVER sufficient !

Hi Eddie. I cannot remember if you have a video explaining why you have to use differential probes for these bridge amplifiers. Maybe for noobs, you could draw a block diagram, showing how the output of a bridge configuration-amp works, and why you need to test the ouput differentially. Not meant as criticism, but I thought a lot of beginners might find it useful.

Thanks so much! I have done that once, but I need to do a short video on this that I can point to for each video in the future on this subject. Thank you!

High effort video and this needs to be done but would like to see some actual measurements with your new toy ! Why do we need to know about the power supply have I missed a bit please ? as only one device under test at one time ! I would like to know why you need 2 differential probes it would be easier to test 1 channel at a time and do both under load at the end..I guess ? Good work but signal in and amp on then connect to the analyser and from there it's all software is that right please ?...cheers.

Thanks for your feedback! I use two sets of probes on the outputs so I can watch them both at the same time to be sure there’s not a problem. I don’t want things blowing up:). Once I setup the QuantAsylum up with the right parameters the software does the rest. I want to be sure that the power supply is good so it doesn’t hurt the amp with too high of voltage for instance.

I think you have all the gear now to be very thorough. Interesting phase shift. Can't say I have seen that before. Maybe troubleshoot it more? One thing I would like is more standardized testing. That way I have some known parameters to compare against previous products. Maybe give your assessment on the amp or psu at the end of the video of things you liked and didn't like or things you think that could be improved especially from the engineering design side of things.
@KissAnalog

Thank you - and I agree - standard set of tests would be great! I tried to follow your suggestion in the video I just posted:)

It's fun to learn the amplifier have phase shift, maybe recommendation of each amp., how good are they? Worth to buy or not? Thank you for setting up bunch of things to test.

I’m having a bit of issue with my scope 10x / 1x probe picking up noise which interferes with measuring small signals such as 10mv p-p . What did you do for this problem if you have had it happen to you? Please help thanks

Hi, from 2x50v dc can i use it in bridge mode, (I need around 400w at 8r for a active speaker )
@microknigh7
@microknigh7 Год назад
Interesting phase difference. What mode are the amps you're testing running in? We're currently waiting for prototype PCBs, where we're using the 3255 in a single channel PBTL mode for a 150W PA. The amp is mostly reference design with custom output filtering, plus we use 100V line. So there's an output transformer. But wondering how that phase difference might impact the efficiency when paralleled.
