I would love to hear more about how you (or in general) determine what to charge for shipping for the consumer since they are paying a shipping fee prior to you weighing the package (if that makes sense!) in an upcoming Etsy video. Thanks for the insightful video!

ah great concern! if you are going to be using USPS like I do, they have a chart on their website that tells you all the prices per ounce per region. This gives me a good estimate of how much to charge my buyers ☺️

I actually got my DYMO on Mercari (still in box!) and get my labels off Amazon for like 8.99 for 200 of them or so! I think it’s not good to use off-brand DYMO labels if you’ve purchased from them and have a warranty active on the product because if you use off-brand labels and it messes with the machine it voids the warranty. Just thought I’d throw that out there! 💕

Love this. One note for you though. Dymo does not require you to use their labels. I’ve never used theirs except what came with the machine. I use a generic from Amazon and it’s $6 instead of $24

Hello! I was curious why you would create your own label when etsy offers theirs? are the rates better to go through a third party? Also how will the customer get notified that it has been shipped if I do not use the etsy shipping label? I am about to officially open for stickers and a 2lb parcel and was curious!

This is such great advice! I think the CD rigid mailers is brilliant! I bought some, but I’m curious, does your label printer make a size that fits on a 5.5 x 5.5inch CD mailer? That’s the size I have. My ink jet printer isn’t reliable, so I’m considering your technique with the label printer. Shipping is soooo stressful! I just made my first sale and I’m panicking a little because my printer isn’t working. I’ll make due for now, but a label printer might be a smart investment for me...

Do you ship through First-class mail letters, flats or package service? since from what i've read, letters and flats are not eligible for usps tracking.. Thanks!

I’m excited about the cheaper ship label without tracking this saves more money. Thank you if I can’t track packages I guess if a customer doesn’t get order they’ll just let me know and I can resend it again or do a refund. How do u find other country correct address format does the Pitney boo help you with address format 😊 thanks

hello. im a bit confused when you say shipping labels are you talking about the material of the paper, which would also be known as sticker/label paper? Do we have to pay to create a label that has our address and return address is? does that count as a stamp? or is that all created on pitney bows and all we have to do is fill in the information and pay the fee so that its set up and all we have to worry about is taking it to the mail ?

FYI Etsy now allows you to mail flats for cheap. I chose envelope and put in dimensions (9X6X0.5 note that height is 0.5) and add the weight. I’ve shipped with the rigid envelopes you have it works well. A letter under an once is .55 cents, which has allowed me to add free shipping without raising prices too much. Etsy uses Pitney Bowes and includes letter barcode tracking, which isn’t completely accurate but it gives you a general idea of weather the package was delivered. Hope this helps! Also, online labels has sticker sheets that fit right into the Etsy shipping label size so you can easily use existing printer.

Katerina Kanellis are you in the US? These shipping options are only available when you’re ready to buy postage. It won’t show up in the options for calculated shipping.

glumeycat hello! I do free shipping so I set my listings as free but you could set fixed price of .55/oz + handling if you’d like. I typically add it to the cost of my item so it’s just item price + cost of letter. If you do fixed price you can also set it to .10 per extra item (or whatever makes sense). Hope this helps!

absolutely! I was using a regular laserjet printer at first, but any printer can print shipping labels and you can just print it on a regular paper and take it on ☺️

Is there a benefit to using Pitney Bowes for untracked letter shipping as opposed to just using a stamp or buying Etsy's shipping? A stamp is 58 cents, letter shipping with Etsy is 53 cents. PB is charging $1.15 for a 1 oz. letter. Also, Etsy uses Pitney Bowes, and supposedly it is trackable, but there have been many issues with the tracking recently. Are you able to track letters on Pitney Bowes? Would love to hear your thoughts on all this. Thank you!

Hi! Have you ever tried using Etsy shipping labels, and do you know how those work? I was going to use Etsy shipping labels since they're supposedly cheaper to bu y in bulk, but I wasn't sure if it makes it easier to ship items as well.

i have purchased a few shipping labels through etsy and its quite nice! for flatmailers, they charge an extra 20 cents because it comes with "tracking" but the tracking often times doesnt work very well. but nonetheless, still a great service!

For customs forms, do you have declare your extra stuff like your freebies or thank you cards, or even your packaging like extra card board? And declaring values on them? Or do you not add those in for international orders?

Lottie Collins check their tracking and if it says “delivered” then they need to contact their local post office

great q! on orders that have tracking, it'd be easy to just confirm through the tracking number but if its for things like my sticker orders, it's a bit harder to confirm. In instances like this, I generally just hope that my buyer isn't lying to me. It costs a lot of money to run a small business and most of the time, i'm just running off my own personal income. I hope that my buyers put that into consideration. So I usually just give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they aren't being untruthful about not getting their orders and resend out the order. Hope this helps! ✨

Sarah Nelson I’m in the same boat! Trying to navigate how to do shipping is super stressful. I sell stickers too, and I really just want to use stamps! Can I do that on Etsy? I know that people like to track their packages. But if they don’t get their order, I can send them another I guess, it would have to be an honor code *shrugs* it just seems crazy to charge so much for shipping one sticker!

@@paigeforney7238 You can use stamps on Etsy, though I think tracking is required for orders over $10. I don't personally use stamps, but other people do. You can also just buy a "stamp" through Etsy's shipping. It costs 53 cents for a 1 oz. letter.

As long as you don’t put your personal home address. If there’s problems with shipping, you would lose products and money because your shipment courier wouldn’t be able to send it back to your P.O. Box. SheMeetsCity has a good video explaining shipping.

This is probably a dumb question but I'm just starting my own shop. Etsy has a system that prints a shipping label that you can purchase from their site, I've seen. With the persons address and type of shipping, etc. So when you purchase that... you can print it and paste it onto the package, and then just plop it in the mailbox? No stamps needed? Cause you paid for the label? I'm so confused! Any help is appreciated, thank you.

Yes, once you pay for label and slap it on your package you can just drop it in the post office drop box (: no stamps needed

Sarah Nelson yes, the same discount you get on Etsy is the same offered on PayPal and pirate ship and other website like that. I have a thermal label printer because it doesn’t require ink but you can print from your home printer as well. You will need a scale, which you can get online for as little as $12 on places like amazon. For example, one of my prints shipped the same exact way through the post office cost $4.60, but buying my label through Etsy or PayPal only cost $2.74 so it’s a significant savings

if you are going to hand write addresses, you would need to use stamps. I use Pitney Bowe's Sendpro application so that the shipping label is already paid for and I can just hand it off to my mailman. hope this helps!

i've previously used Etsy's shipping labels but i noticed that they charge an extra 20 cents for the "tracking" and while that's a really good idea in theory, their tracking isn't the most accurate. sometimes the package will be delivered to my buyer but the tracking status will still say its in transit

Can’t you just write the adress on the package and then take it to post office? They put a label with tracking on it there no ? I’ve shipped packages like that for friends but I’m starting a bussiness and find it unnecessary why people buy labels when you can just write the adress on the box, take it to the post office and they put one on there with tracking ?

not rude at all! You definitely can write the address on it and take it to the post office to get your tracking label there, when i use shipping labels, I am paying for the tracking labels at home and so it takes away a step of needing a teller to do the tracking for me. Also, with third party shipping companies, they usually offer a discounted rate because they can negotiate rates with USPS. hope this helps!
