How to use a squeeze off tool on MDPE mains water pipe. This is a useful technique when you need to isolate the water supply and there is no external stopcock available. It is also safer and easier than freezing the pipe, which can cause damage or leaks.
BUY PVC pipe cutter from this video on AMAZON click the affiliate link: amzn.to/3HpGKXP
Or Buy from TEMU: temu.to/m/us1wyiq0rn4 and get money OFF your tools. I do get a small commission that helps me make these videos
You will need a squeeze off tool that is suitable for the size and type of your pipe, and some basic tools like a wrench, a marker, and a tape measure.
This is a simple and effective way to temporarily stop the water flow without cutting the pipe or affecting the water quality. It can save you time and money, and prevent potential problems.

Very informative and well explained. Knowing that the pipe can be compressed was worth it alone watching this video. Thanks.

A lot of people think squeeze-offs damage the pipe - THEY DON'T when used properly. When I worked for a major water supply company our pipework gangs used squeeze-off tools. From memory, I they said the biggest pipe they could squeeze was 180mm (with a hydraulically operated version)

We use couplers made by Hawle for that kind of transitions. It’s an better solution, no threads, no leaks. Also curious why you did use a straight coupler, or a more gentle bend, instead of a knee. Also there are brass couplers available for that kind of pipe, you can make a better transition to copper. Even brass couplers with build-in shutoff valves (90 degrees) are available. I just don’t understand why you couldn’t shutoff the main, it’s a 2 minute job. That farm/neighbour can handle a few minutes without any water pressure. But great tool, if there’s no other alternative, to shutdown the pressure. 👍

I did use a straight coupler after this. But at the time the builder wanted this. Legally I'd need to warn the farms in advance and I wanted to just do it. If it caused an issue with some planned event on a farm, the cost of farming is so expensive they could potential sue for loses. So yeh liability. Example when I shut off the water just for this property, the tilers left and said there's no water. They charged full day. Now for 6 farms I don't know what's going on there. Why bother, finding it it's too much hassle

I use this tool all the time for Speedfit,Hep20 and any other types of plastic pipe. Never had any issues, I always use a set of adjustable grips to ensure that the tube is round afterwards. It doesn’t even have to be very tight at all to stop the flow. I tried it on various scrap pipes as tight as I could get it and it doesn’t split the pipes.

I've never had to use it on barrier pipe, but it's good to know that it works on that too. 👍 Thanks for the comment

Just screw the thing backwards gently if you have any type of dexterity at all you will feel the click when the threads align. Also you never screw a metal male into a plastic female because of over-tightening causing the plastic to split if you must do it, you use a worm gear clamp over the plastic Fe so that the stress on the plastic cannot exceed what it can handle allowing it to split. This method is for temporary installs only, like 5:00 on a Friday when you don't have the right parts in the bin. For permanent installations you must always use a plastic male into a metal female. Just a bit of advice from a quarter century multi-million dollar property new construction plumber down in Florida USA

I should've included the reviews of this particular product. The reason I made the video is because everyone said they threaded it

We used* to use a huge version to clamp off Gas pipes (the yellow ones) *i left 20 years ago. So not sure if they still do.

Unlikely unless there's really no other option, Gas is so highly regulated now you can't do much. I certainly wouldn't do that with Gas 😅

@@mendyourhome the company was a subsidiarity of Transco/national grid, so proper Gas engineers. I once watched a spine main go live in cold harbour. They had banned welsh gloves* just before so the huge clamp was the replacement. *no idea what a Welsh Glove is.

@@privatechannel8462 I have squeezed off 180mm on gas and I think we had a set up for 250mm, they were hydraulic rather than manual. Before I left they were bagging off plastic in the same way as steel mains. A couple of things to note, don't squeeze of in the same place twice, the pipe will return to its normal shape on its own and be careful how close the squeeze off is to the fitting, because of mis shaped pipe.

You could have just folded to pipe over to stop the water. Just once in the same place mind you.

So its a plastic compression fitting 😂
@mendyourhome
@mendyourhome 5 месяцев назад
It has rubber seals, the compression ring doesn't do the sealing just stops the water from pushing it off 🤷🏼‍♂️

Be even easier if you just turned off the water at the company stop valve in the street.

Thanks, there's no stopcock outside, there's one that shuts off several farms. This is very rural, it's not like in town or cities

Why in the world are you wearing latex gloves ??? What are you?? a proctologist ???
@mendyourhome
@mendyourhome 5 месяцев назад
Protection from minor cuts, dirt on hands, clothes gloves don't allow for fiddly jobs. Plus we're plumbers we do deal with the same "sh*t" as a proctologist 😅 except far more toxic.

@@mendyourhome No!!! I am 3rd generation, Plumber. We don't wear gloves. BTW- Urine and Feces are not MORE toxic for the Plumber than the Proctologist. You are just a princess... you probably gag at the sight of a full toilet or urinal..
