I did that stuff when I was 17 years old back in 1991. We had a public access show back in the 90s when we were in high school called, "30 minutes of madness." We never did live projection though.
I stumbled into this stuff around 15 years ago, and had a great time performing on live shows in Leicester, UK. Wish I'd kept it up, I've recently been exploring my old kit again, purely for recording these days, and this video is an inspiration!
I laughed when you mentioned the "analog video rabbit hole" because someone pointed me in your direction when I asked about analog video editing, and ever since I discovered your videos I've been down the same rabbit hole Fast forward about 6 months now I have a v-4ex, mx-1, two camcorders, two VCRs, a projector, resolume on my PC, a melted electronics strange loop, and a lofi future t-420. I haven't been doing this long and already Ive had a stack of commissions. It blows my mind how high the demand is for analog video art right now. Thank you so much for being such a valuable member of this community and teaching us your vast knowledge that made it easier for artists like me to explore the community too
There was this video for the band called The Horrors (song: "A Sea within A Sea") awhile back maybe 11 years ago that did really interesting video mixing and now I think I have a better understanding of how they may have made that. Really cool stuff

I fell down this rabbit hole, when I was looking for an Edirol deck that was popular about 15 years ago, that had V-LINK technology, to fire off video samples synced to music, via a sequencer. I'm going to choose to maintain my current level of sanity right now and come back to this video later because I know what will happen to my other hobbies if I start down this road D:

Goddamn. I can't tell how happy I am to see people are doing this. I've been wanting to do this feedback stuff live so the camera films the audience as well. Too bad life is always challenging me in ways these dreams just drift away, but I won't give up. Doing my own music and visuals finally. wow, I'm really impressed with all this, there's a Brazilian artist called "Rollinos" He does this kind of distortion in several shows I've been to and I was delighted, a pity that all these cameras and other resources are expensive (at least in Brazil lol)
Big homie, I have a visual synth that works well straight from the camera but going through the computer it is all black on the tv even when going from HDMI to composite. Any suggestions I'm in serious struggle town 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

Hey! I made myself a dirty mixer on a Sega case, looks super cool, I was wondering if there is any way to add like a feedback knob as in 11:20, have you done anything similar? Is it possible to make with simple electronic components? I've looked it up on RU-vid and haven't found anything, thanks!
hey i think a feedback loop will only form if there is some kind of video buffer or processing delay (as exists in mixer and camera output) and i'm not sure if it can be done with simple components but andrei jay has created a software/hardware based device that does exactly that called the WAAAVE_POOL

Not really what I was searching for, yet still worth the watch. 👍 But _jeez!_ You're calling _Hi8_ footage "Lo-Fi"? 😏 When I was a kid in the '80s, I had a camcorder made by _Fisher-Price_ called the PXL2000, it recorded 11 whole minutes of grainy, blurry, _nearly indecipherable_ 120x90 black and white video at 15fps to a standard audio cassette... Hi8 is like 4K HDR by comparison! 😂 Wish I still had it... Unfortunately, it was one of the items in a box of stuff that got lost in a move (along with my pog collection and all my audio tapes... Hope _somebody_ enjoyed my godawful taste in music... 😏) and despite the fact that I now have a couple pelican cases full of modern AV gear including two palm-sized Canon Vixia HF R62 cams which can shoot hours of 1080p60 to internal storage... ALL I WANT IS THAT DAMNED FISHER-PRICE CAMERA BACK. 😫 God, analog video is more than an aesthetic, it's an entire _mood._ 😂 My first experience with 'camera feedback' was in the early 1980s, pointing a Panasonic WV-1410 black and white CCTV unit at the green phosphor CRT monitor it was outputting to...it didn't work though; if you had more than like a third of the frame taken up by the monitor, the image would just freak the heck out. We had the CCTV camera to use with a digitizer for our Macintosh 512K... My dad would help me make little storybooks about my LEGO space dudes. (We also used it for stop-motion, because our VCR could frame-advance record.) 😌 Come to think of it...for having access to relatively unlimited knowledge and technology now, I sure don't have much to show for it. 🤔 _I should-oughta fix that._ 😤

I’m so glad I found your channel, I have officially fallen down the rabbit hole of video art and live visuals. The only thing I was wondering is how you manage to connect all of your equipment to the projector with analog wirelessly, or do you convert the analog to digital and connect that way through your laptop?
a lot of times i didn't go wireless and my projector has analog video inputs so i'd just run a 25ft s-video cable. other times i use an upscaler and an HDMI transmitter/receiver.
I have a question! Resolume Avenue VJ Software is kind of a music DAW but for video right? Or you can create visuals as a generator or a video synth inside of it?

How do you transport your live V/VFX setup to venues? What are your thoughts on creating a standalone setup, for artists who don't have a dedicated VFX person - what would the setup consist of to create a feedback loop with light glitch effects?
One thing about those 'dirty' video mixers: If you plug them into a projector directly they often won't work because the projector will lose sync and drop the image. You're going to need some kind of video mixer or time base corrector behind them to recover the sync and offer proper video to the projector. If you're only displaying on CRTs, those are much more resilient and you can often throw random analog signals at them while they will still try to display some kind of image on the screen.

I like the projector work, but do you think it would be possible to protect, but leave the people without the visuals on them? Possibly with Ai, you could mark the people, and the Ai creates a movie shadow within the image.
