Nice video. One thing you didn’t mention was temperature control. I live in Florida and store everything in my garage and in the summer it gets very hot and humid. Not sure how long the grains would keep in those conditions. I do use the vittle vaults and store my premade recipes in them for safe keeping. I usually buy 2-4 recipes from my LHBS at a time since it’s over an hour from my house.

A source for 5 gallon buckets for free or very little charge is a Little Caesars Pizza. We use a release oil in our pans that comes in food grade buckets. If you ask the owner or manager of the store, I would be willing to bet they'd be happy to give them to you.

Great tip on the Dollar Tree for containers. I do use the food grade buckets with gamma lids. However I also use food grade liners, that I can use to minimize head space over the grain. I don't brew as often as I'd like.

Damn! I have the exact same setup and it works like a charm. I would recommend every homebrewer to take the time to build something similar. It really satisfying to have a shelf well organized with your grains. Another tip … if you use Brewfather, the inventory capability is also a nice way to keep track of all the grains and hops on your shelf.

Brian, thanks for the video. I recently bought a grain mill from Monster Mills and now I’m into building up my grain stores. I was given a 50 lb bag of 2 row as a bday present so I had to make the leap. Theres a Dollar Tree close by, so I’ll check out the containers. Love the video! I have a bunch of those same exact Dollar Tree containers for specialty and adjunct grains and I wondered if anyone else was using them as well. They work great! My base malts are the same setup minus the Vittles Vaults, I just use 5 gallon buckets with Gamma lids. I haven't seen those smaller brewing salts containers at the Dollar Tree - for salts I've been using mason jars or re-purposed Skippy peanut butter jars. I've been using my vacuum sealer (originally purchased for BBQ leftovers) for hops for years, always re-packaging to smaller amounts from 1lb bags, but I never thought to make pre-packaged multi-hop additions for certain recipes - brilliant idea! Love these types of tips & tricks videos, keep it up!

Excellent Job. I use the same big Vittles Vault containers and some of their smaller versions. I use to use containers from the dollar store but the ones I had didn't seal as well so I ended up buying the 32 oz Plastic Deli Containers from Amazon which is even cheaper compared to the dollar store and they can hold about 1 lb of adjunct grains plus they seal amazingly well. The 8 and 12 oz versions are good for other things like brewing salts and such. Keep up the great work.

Thanks for sharing your tips. I have a dollar tree store not to far away. Never thought about going there to get containers until you mentioned it. I store grains and adjuncts in cardboard boxes right now stored on shelves. Some grains in buckets. All my grains are sealed. Cheers!

Enjoyed this for sure! I've been looking for better storage solutions. Unfortunately I don't have a LHBS so I have to order online and I always buy extra to reduce the number of orders in the future.
@ShortCircuitedBrewers
@ShortCircuitedBrewers 2 года назад
That's a good method. You can get around the massive shipping on full bags by buying 5 - 10lb bags of grain .. 😉 👍🍻

Good timing on this video… I have three huge bags of grain that I keep having to move around. Those vittle vaults look perfect. I do similar for my adjuncts - local club often does group buys, so added bulk discounts while still getting smaller amounts.
@ShortCircuitedBrewers
@ShortCircuitedBrewers 2 года назад
At $37 the vittle vaults are really cheaper than buying two gamma lids and two buckets. And you can store them all in the same place!! That was one of the best storage investments I've ever made! 👍🍻

I got to look into this. So I don’t have grains for bad I have to use pound or half pound specialty grains when I brew so I don’t have grains go bad or go to waste.

I enjoyed the content. I find it is hard to balance the "save money and buy in bulk + have on hand if needed" aspect versus still having 3 lbs of Brown Malt 2 years later side! I see a label maker and a trip to the dollar store in my near future.
